  1. Hi. Hello.
  2. Good morning.
  3. My name is Kelly Stonewall, and I am here to
  4. do my professional care mapping for my professional nursing course.
  5. Yeah. Currently, I have a three year diploma degree.
  6. I have enjoyed my work and I have to say
  7. that it is great because I've not had to have
  8. a BSN up to this point, and that's okay.
  9. Um but recently I've become or dissatisfied in my position.
  10. I've worked as a nurse since 1993 and I just
  11. think that thes slides they're going to help me develop
  12. my professionalism and my care mapping to where I ultimately
  13. want to be, which is a nurse practitioner.
  14. Some of the advantages of having a three year nursing
  15. diploma was it was rapid employment.
  16. I came out of school with no debt, and I
  17. was able to enjoy my positions without having to have
  18. a BSN.
  19. I also, um, have some disadvantages too.
  20. That obviously So I've maxed out on my salary and
  21. I am unable to go into management.
  22. I have limited advancement opportunities because I do not have
  23. a BSN.
  24. I work as a precept.
  25. Er I am in being encouraged by hospital staff every
  26. time I am a precept er to get my BSN
  27. because I'm also not being paid as a precept.
  28. Er, because without a BSN you're not in that position
  29. that creates internal and external dissatisfaction.
  30. And I also feel that because I'm on different committees
  31. and certificates, there's also a limitations without a BSN that
  32. I could do those things.
  33. So I feel like I'm limiting my patients to the
  34. care that I can give them.
  35. So all of those things have been creating increased job
  36. dissatisfaction with me.
  37. Yeah, boo Next.
  38. So in order to make a change, we all have
  39. to look and see.
  40. There's change required.
  41. What do I need to do?
  42. So the pathway to do that was I first had
  43. to get admitted.
  44. I had to decide what time I'm able to give
  45. up and the finances.
  46. Am I able to do those things?
  47. So I said a two year goal, which I'm gonna
  48. be able to accomplish within the year and that to
  49. your goal is to, um have completed my BSN program
  50. and start working on my MSN program as a BSN
  51. nurse and obviously change was required.
  52. I'm admitted already.
  53. I've made some time changes.
  54. I have worked out the finances, and I know the
  55. sacrifices that need to be made.
  56. I am going to look at the two year goal
  57. and the advantages to that are increased knowledge.
  58. Increased salary evolved in my competencies, which is going to
  59. give me self satisfaction, internal and external satisfaction.
  60. I'm going to be able to advance my nursing career,
  61. Um, and with the increased knowledge, I'm also going to
  62. be able to get better patient outcomes, and I will
  63. be able to participate more in the committees that I
  64. will be on.
  65. Of course, there's always disadvantages to everything as well for
  66. the two year goal.
  67. I understand the time requirements and I have to cut
  68. back on my work.
  69. Um, time requirements are also time away from family and
  70. friends. Luckily, I they're very supportive.
  71. I have to have study time set aside in in
  72. order to be able to meet all of the goals
  73. that I need to do for my time requirements.
  74. I need to just schedule everything and not procrastinate.
  75. Also, there are some financial requirements to any goals that
  76. you have that you're advancing your education.
  77. Um, I have to remember that my hours at work
  78. have to be changed so that I have more time
  79. to do the studying.
  80. I also have to pay out more money, which is
  81. tuition and books and payments towards any student loans.
  82. Um, and I've already acquired the admission to the school,
  83. so I am good with that.
  84. And as you can see the time, um is one
  85. year that I'm gonna reach that to your goal.
  86. So here is a picture of wth e diploma nursing
  87. and the two year diploma or the two year BSN.
  88. Excuse me.
  89. Time and and the care mapping so far.
  90. So my five year goal is to be completed with
  91. a master's program and working as a nurse practitioner.
  92. Because this truly is my ultimate goal there.
  93. And so the five year goal also for the MSN
  94. program, even working as a nurse practitioner, hopefully it only
  95. takes me to two years to get to that goal.
  96. Um, but over the time period within the next five
  97. years, I will be working as a nurse practitioner.
  98. Um, there are time requirements that are now established.
  99. By the time that I get to that, I will
  100. have already established those Because I'm working through the BSN
  101. program, the financial requirements are going to be the same
  102. as the BSN program, and I have to make sure
  103. that I still continue to meet the other goals.
  104. And being admitted into an MSN program is also one
  105. of the things that I need to look to.
  106. Yeah, so also, there are disadvantages with my five year
  107. goal. Of course.
  108. Um, are advantages Excuse me?
  109. Increased opportunities are going to be there.
  110. As a nurse practitioner, I'm going to be able to
  111. work on the preventable care treatments and family and geriatric
  112. certifications. Um, and, of course, with a nurse practitioner and
  113. in essence, it's gonna also be more portability.
  114. I'll be able to go wherever I want to go,
  115. especially in some of these rural areas that I live
  116. in. Um, that will also fill a gap in health
  117. care. Uh, because nurse practitioners fill that gap where there's
  118. not gonna be enough physicians.
  119. And with our silver tsunami coming in the age of
  120. our population increasing, I think geriatric certification is also going
  121. to be very important.
  122. I think all of these things is gonna add to
  123. my lifelong learning and job security and salary will definitely
  124. improve, which will lead to some mawr job satisfaction.
  125. It's going to give meaningful contributions to not only to
  126. my life my job in my salary, but I'm gonna
  127. also be given meaningful contributions to society.
  128. I will be able to collaborate with other health care
  129. workers and assist in the whole the holistic care that
  130. I am looking forward to delivering.
  131. Yeah, And then, um, the 10 year goal, of course,
  132. is that I will be continuing to work as a
  133. nurse practitioner.
  134. I will be looking at considering my doctorate, and I
  135. understand that it is increased knowledge and that with or
  136. without my doctorate, it will be lifelong learning.
  137. But I do understand that as a nurse practitioner, um,
  138. the ultimate goal is to have my doctorate.
  139. However, I am in my late fifties and 10 years
  140. from now I have not decided earnestly whether I want
  141. to continue with the doctor or not.
  142. I hope that with or without the doctorate, I'm going
  143. going to be able to continue to have better patient
  144. outcomes and continue to be a lifelong learner.
  145. Mhm. Um, this is the entirety of the care map.
  146. And, as you can see here is the diploma, the
  147. two year goal, the five year goal and the 10
  148. year goal.
  149. Thank you for listening to me, and my shirt says
  150. it all care.
  151. Compassion in community.
  152. Have a glorious day good.
