00:01 - 00:03
this is my target versus walmart presentation.
00:04 - 00:06
Um Target and walmart are two
00:06 - 00:08
stories that have completely different environments,
00:08 - 00:14
People prices and even employee and customer behaviors within the store itself
00:16 - 00:22
at walmart, you will tend to see blue all over the store. Um That's just what
00:22 - 00:25
they're kind of color scheme is, is blue.
00:25 - 00:26
Um
00:27 - 00:29
So you'll see employees wearing a blue shirt
00:29 - 00:33
or something that has an identifiable walmart logo.
00:34 - 00:39
Um You'll tend to find um more casually dressed
00:40 - 00:41
customers there.
00:42 - 00:47
Um You know, and we've all seen the crazy pictures of
00:47 - 00:49
walmart customers and that's just what
00:50 - 00:54
because of those pictures, that's what people associate walmart with is
00:55 - 00:58
crazy dress customers, crazy customers,
00:58 - 01:00
all that good stuff.
01:00 - 01:05
Um So actually a big difference with walmart sources here in colorado,
01:05 - 01:09
you'll tend to find customers dress,
01:09 - 01:12
you know, however, like they just rolled out of bed,
01:12 - 01:15
they're going to the store to get some milk, but in texas,
01:16 - 01:24
especially in el paso texas, people will dress up so they will look their best try to,
01:24 - 01:27
you know, make some kind of
01:27 - 01:29
work to their appearance when they actually go
01:29 - 01:32
out and even if they're just getting milk,
01:32 - 01:35
they'll put on a full face of makeup dress nice
01:36 - 01:37
just to go to walmart.
01:38 - 01:38
Mhm.
01:39 - 01:39
Yeah.
01:40 - 01:41
Um So a target,
01:42 - 01:46
They, same thing like before walmart
01:47 - 01:52
and Target are very big superstores, so you can find anything that you
01:53 - 01:54
could possibly want
01:54 - 01:55
at this store.
01:56 - 01:57
Um
01:58 - 02:02
Staff members are very easily identifiable with the red shirt.
02:02 - 02:04
Um Obviously there's shopping carts are red.
02:04 - 02:08
If you look anywhere above the story, you'll see red.
02:08 - 02:12
So targets color is right. Um
02:14 - 02:18
They tend to have better to rest customers.
02:18 - 02:23
Um So customers were actually taking appearance into or they'll
02:23 - 02:26
put thought into their appearance when they go to Target.
02:27 - 02:28
Um
02:29 - 02:33
And Target, they tend to have more of a warm lighted
02:34 - 02:34
light.
02:35 - 02:39
Um It was that it makes the brain feel like it's more relaxed
02:39 - 02:42
compared to a cool light, which walmart has,
02:42 - 02:44
so when customers are feeling more relaxed and
02:45 - 02:47
you know, they're going to be in a better mood.
02:47 - 02:48
Yeah.
02:49 - 02:49
Yeah.
02:49 - 02:50
All right.
02:50 - 02:53
So same thing with walmart, you can see all the blue scheme,
02:53 - 02:55
you can see that that employee is wearing a
02:55 - 02:57
blue shirt and the employee is wearing a walmart
02:58 - 02:58
west.
02:59 - 03:04
Um This is an actual case in colorado that happened, I believe it was inglewood,
03:05 - 03:05
but
03:06 - 03:09
what happened is a man in the red shirt had hit them in
03:09 - 03:14
the blue shirt with his cart spit on him and then the men,
03:14 - 03:15
the employee
03:16 - 03:17
knocked him out.
03:18 - 03:22
Um That is just one of the very few things that you will find
03:23 - 03:26
happening at walmart anytime walmart is in the news,
03:26 - 03:28
it's typically for something bad that has happened.
03:29 - 03:29
Um
03:30 - 03:34
But if you see Target be featured in the news is typically about like
03:35 - 03:38
their sales are shoplifting.
03:39 - 03:45
Um skim like scam gift cards, you're not gonna find very violent behavior
03:46 - 03:48
with Target's name on it.
03:49 - 03:52
Um You typically find that with walmart and that's another thing that
03:52 - 03:58
people associate walmart with is the violent bad behavior of their customers.
03:59 - 04:06
Um walmart depending on which one you go to. They tend to have little friends stores
04:06 - 04:10
um and not just tailors to what that certain place needs.
04:10 - 04:14
So if they need a restaurant they'll put in a restaurant, they need a bank,
04:14 - 04:15
they'll put in a bank.
04:15 - 04:20
Uh Some of them even have nail salons, uh posted postal service,
04:20 - 04:24
whatever it all goes off of what that place needs.
04:24 - 04:27
I think even one of the peasant hair salon here. Yes,
04:28 - 04:29
so um
04:30 - 04:33
that's I really like that about walmart.
04:35 - 04:36
Uh huh.
04:37 - 04:38
So at wal mart
04:39 - 04:45
they tend to have all of their products more compacted and put more together.
04:45 - 04:47
You'll see that there.
04:49 - 04:50
Sorry?
04:50 - 04:54
Um You'll tend to find that walmart there uh aisles are actually very
04:54 - 04:58
close together and that so then they can carry a lot more product.
04:59 - 05:00
Um
05:01 - 05:02
And that's just something they can keep up with the
05:02 - 05:05
amount of people that they're getting in throughout the day.
05:05 - 05:05
You know,
05:05 - 05:08
if they have a lot more items and obviously they're going
05:08 - 05:11
to have their prices a lot lower because supply and demand.
05:11 - 05:13
Um But there
05:14 - 05:17
they tend to have low prices
05:17 - 05:22
because their target audience is low income families. Um
05:23 - 05:24
You know, it's
05:25 - 05:26
to help those
05:27 - 05:28
who don't have a lot.
05:29 - 05:29
Um
05:30 - 05:33
So this is an older picture of what walmart used to look like.
05:33 - 05:36
Obviously you can tell that a little bit because they
05:36 - 05:40
have a more modern kind of feel to them now,
05:40 - 05:40
I don't like it,
05:41 - 05:43
but um
05:44 - 05:47
Walmart 10, they tend to be a big superstore, you know,
05:47 - 05:49
having everything that you need.
05:49 - 05:52
Um groceries, toys
05:52 - 05:54
ya da ya, da yada, like I said before.
05:55 - 05:59
But um walmart, they have little
06:00 - 06:05
super little stories called walmart neighborhood market place
06:06 - 06:10
and with those, it's basically like a king Soopers,
06:11 - 06:12
but it's just
06:12 - 06:13
lower prices.
06:14 - 06:15
So um
06:16 - 06:19
they tend to build those in places where
06:19 - 06:22
people don't have an easily accessible grocery store
06:23 - 06:25
Um or there is one
06:26 - 06:27
but they just need it
06:28 - 06:30
with the area,
06:30 - 06:31
they can't afford it.
06:32 - 06:35
So they built the walmart neighborhood market place there.
06:37 - 06:42
I really, really like this chart because I feel like it gives us so much information.
06:42 - 06:45
Um Obviously you can't see that well in this video,
06:46 - 06:49
but if you look at my slide you'll be able to get a little bit better.
06:50 - 06:53
This chart uses red and blue because that is the colors that they are associated with
06:54 - 06:57
former husband. You everywhere, Target has red everywhere.
06:58 - 06:59
Um
06:59 - 07:05
Obviously the difference in generations. So um walmart, they tend to have more of
07:05 - 07:10
gen X. And Target has more millennials and gen Z shoppers.
07:10 - 07:17
So with that difference in um generations, you will find different products,
07:17 - 07:20
walmart tends to have more
07:22 - 07:23
adult
07:23 - 07:24
kind of
07:25 - 07:26
clothing.
07:27 - 07:28
Um
07:30 - 07:31
Just everything I guess.
07:31 - 07:35
But Target, they tend to have a little bit more of a kind of playful
07:35 - 07:36
um
07:38 - 07:41
Youth I guess kind of
07:42 - 07:47
products they have stuff that is more appealing to
07:47 - 07:52
young adults and teens compared to older generations.
07:52 - 07:53
Um
07:54 - 07:57
This is overall information for Target and walmart
07:58 - 07:58
and
07:59 - 08:02
Target, They typically don't have a lot of
08:03 - 08:04
rural
08:04 - 08:07
customers because they don't
08:08 - 08:13
have a lot of sores. Walmart is one of the biggest box chain superstores that
08:14 - 08:21
is in America and they tend to build in more of the scarce
08:22 - 08:26
kind of places like they'll build in small towns
08:26 - 08:31
to help them because they have nowhere else to go.
08:31 - 08:35
So that's how they get a lot more rural customers
08:35 - 08:38
is because they build in the small towns with small incomes
08:39 - 08:41
and yeah,
08:43 - 08:47
walmart and Target are similar in some of their ways, but different most of them.
08:47 - 08:49
Um walmart tends to bring in more low income
08:49 - 08:52
families and attracts violence along with their stores,
08:52 - 08:58
but you can find walmart in any big city, small city, wherever you can name it.
08:58 - 09:01
Target tends to have a more higher income um
09:01 - 09:04
target audience and they tend to have more younger,
09:04 - 09:06
better dressed shoppers compared to walmart.
09:07 - 09:09
Um And Target is just,
09:09 - 09:15
they have a lot less stories because they build in the higher income places.
09:15 - 09:19
So thank you for watching my presentation and I hope
09:19 - 09:22
I did well. Um yeah,
