  1. Hello. My name is Elena Miller and I will be
  2. presenting lack of physical activity.
  3. Let's get started.
  4. So why is physical activity a public health issue?
  5. Well, here's why.
  6. CDC states that lack of exercise does lead to obesity,
  7. heart disease and other risk factors that might result from
  8. not exercising.
  9. Statistics also show that there is a 20 to 30%
  10. higher risk of death among those who are not active,
  11. as opposed to those who are more active than others.
  12. The behavior that I want to address here is being
  13. sedentary. We are a sedentary, almost the majority of our
  14. day, and when we are sedentary, we're at a standstill.
  15. Were being inactive or not, we're spending too much time
  16. sitting down and we are sedentary.
  17. Whether we are at our day job, whether we are
  18. had a restaurant riding in a car or sitting on
  19. the couch with the healthily model.
  20. Perceived susceptibility with perceived susceptibility Study does show that 6%
  21. of American adults we do not get the recommended amount
  22. of physical activity, and over 25% of Americans or adults
  23. don't you are not active at all.
  24. And, uh, this comes to show that an individual's choices
  25. can definitely impact their life later on.
  26. And it's up to the individual whether they want to
  27. engaging exercise or if they want to remain sedentary with
  28. perceived severity.
  29. Lack of physical activity is very serious, and it has
  30. many complications and consequences that might occur if we do
  31. not exercise.
  32. So as indicated previously, Uh, there is a lack of,
  33. uh, it's when there is lack of exercise.
  34. It does lead to these complications.
  35. And it has a long lasting impact on an individual's
  36. life, which is important that we do remain, uh, active
  37. when, uh, engaging in some sort of this activity with
  38. perceived benefits, there are it is a good thing that
  39. exercise, yes, and when we do exercise it comes with
  40. some of these benefits, like it improves our memory.
  41. It might, um, reduce stress, anxiety, depression.
  42. Definitely All of these factors, as well as others, can
  43. definitely help to improve our quality and life.
  44. When we do exercise.
  45. Yeah, with our perceived barriers with the physical aspect right,
  46. an individual can definitely experience a point of their time
  47. where they over exercise and overindulge and exercise physically and
  48. physiologically and this is known as physical burnout, so the
  49. body can only handle, but so much so that's why
  50. we should exercise at a reasonable amount.
  51. There are recommended amount of exercise that we should receive
  52. each week is 3 to 5 days a week, uh,
  53. 30 to 30 minutes to an hour, which in total
  54. sums up to 150 minutes per week, which is recommended
  55. by the American Heart Association.
  56. Emotionally, an individual can definitely experience uh, point of time
  57. where they feel that they, uh, become addicted to, uh,
  58. physical activity.
  59. And this produced an imbalance of an add up a
  60. positive attitude.
  61. But conversely, the obsession to exercise leads to a disregard
  62. for other obligations and putting exercise first.
  63. So this also might come from over training as well.
  64. And these negative definitely have an impact on an individual's
  65. mental well being.
  66. Financially, an individual can definitely won't be able to might
  67. not be able to afford a gym membership, or they
  68. might not be able to afford the proper gym clothing
  69. attire such as running shoes, clothes.
  70. Uh, an individual might not have any gas money to
  71. get across town or any transportation at all.
  72. Lastly, the social peace.
  73. An individual can definitely get caught up in what others
  74. think of them and get caught up in the social
  75. peace. So it is important.
  76. It is important that an individual not exercises to benefit
  77. themselves and not try to receive validation from others around
  78. them, with our cues to action.
  79. Right? Uh, we have friends that we might see in
  80. the gym, and they might motivate us to do better
  81. or get us to exercise as well.
  82. And we might have family members that have experienced a
  83. disease, uh, that could have been prevented from exercising and
  84. participating in physical activity with some efficacy.
  85. Consistency is the key.
  86. And I say this because when we are consistent and
  87. we find something that motivates us, it keeps us going.
  88. And when we continuously exercise, we will begin to improve
  89. our quality in life.
  90. And we will begin to improve ourselves overall, lastly, and
  91. in conclusion, this activity helps us to improve our health
  92. and reduce the risk of disease.
  93. But it also allows us the opportunity to better our
  94. lives and better our well being.
  95. Here are my resources.
  96. That concludes the end of my presentation.
  97. Thank you for watching
