00:01 - 00:02
Hi everyone.
00:02 - 00:07
My name is Daniel Dallas hairston and I am the executive director and founder
00:07 - 00:11
of women just like me a five oh one C three nonprofit organization.
00:12 - 00:13
Before I begin,
00:13 - 00:17
I want to thank you all for this opportunity and nominating or um
00:17 - 00:23
giving us this opportunity to be a potential recipient of this grant award.
00:25 - 00:26
So again, thank you.
00:27 - 00:30
Women just like me is a nonprofit organization that
00:30 - 00:34
provides supportive services and resources to at risk girls,
00:34 - 00:38
teen moms and those that are in disadvantaged communities.
00:38 - 00:42
Our goal is to combat teen pregnancy and
00:42 - 00:45
to decrease the rate of stds in franklin County
00:46 - 00:52
through our programs and services such as our Visa rewards program,
00:52 - 00:55
which is victory and sustaining abstinence which
00:55 - 00:57
is actually held in columbus city schools.
00:57 - 01:00
And we just opened the opportunity to serve
01:01 - 01:05
or to make it community based outside of columbus city schools.
01:05 - 01:11
We have also developed our Visa rewards program for parents,
01:12 - 01:13
single mothers
01:14 - 01:15
and young mothers.
01:16 - 01:20
This program is basically to educate and to teach
01:20 - 01:26
young mothers the skills required or necessary to parenting
01:26 - 01:28
and to really
01:29 - 01:32
put or to place the emphasis on
01:33 - 01:34
positive parenting.
01:35 - 01:41
So actually what your, what your grant will actually provide.
01:41 - 01:43
It will actually be over.
01:43 - 01:45
Or I should say directed towards our
01:45 - 01:50
parenting skills and education program for new mothers
01:50 - 01:54
and single mothers that are learning how to
01:54 - 01:58
be parents and really just need that additional support
01:58 - 02:03
within our parenting program. We provide child care
02:05 - 02:08
development education for young mothers
02:08 - 02:13
as well as mental health resources and even even counseling
02:13 - 02:18
services for postpartum depression and again for mothers that are
02:18 - 02:23
really struggling and just need some additional support and really
02:23 - 02:27
just trying to manage um being a new mother.
02:28 - 02:32
And they need also mental health support for some
02:32 - 02:34
of the things that they may be struggling with,
02:34 - 02:35
as I mentioned,
02:35 - 02:39
such as postpartum depression or maybe some other things
02:39 - 02:43
that may um present as challenges to them.
02:43 - 02:47
We also have a nutritional specialist that teach mothers
02:47 - 02:51
or educate mothers in terms of the proper foods
02:52 - 02:55
and healthy options for mother and child
02:56 - 02:58
and as well as financial literacy,
02:58 - 03:01
which is a big thing that we have actually
03:01 - 03:05
just introduced into our parenting skills education program.
03:06 - 03:10
So again, that is what your $1,000 would be applied to
03:11 - 03:16
specifically for our learning management system that we actually hold our
03:16 - 03:21
training within as well as payment for our instructors and stipends
03:22 - 03:26
for once the mother or the participant completes the program.
03:26 - 03:29
They have the opportunity to have points apply to
03:29 - 03:35
their visa rewards program to purchase necessities and essentials for
03:36 - 03:38
taking care of themselves and their child.
03:39 - 03:44
So again, thank you so much for this opportunity and I um again,
03:46 - 03:50
I wish everyone well in terms of um the other
03:50 - 03:53
organizations that is actually going for this opportunity as well.
03:53 - 03:55
So thank you again
