00:02 - 00:02
Hi, everyone.
00:03 - 00:06
So we're back here with our nonfiction writing, um, on
00:07 - 00:07
our expert books.
00:08 - 00:12
And yesterday we talked about being an expert, and what
00:13 - 00:16
meant that it we would write about what you know
00:16 - 00:19
best. Something that we feel we're an expert in.
00:23 - 00:28
We had time to think and then thinking we came
00:28 - 00:30
up with a list of topics you know, a lot
00:31 - 00:33
about things that you feel you're an expert in.
00:35 - 00:38
And we thought about what do I know a lot
00:38 - 00:40
about? What can I teach my readers and what really
00:41 - 00:41
interests may?
00:44 - 00:48
So yesterday I left you with the idea of topic
00:49 - 00:52
ideas, and you were to create a an expert topic
00:53 - 00:55
list. I'm sharing my list with you.
00:56 - 01:02
Um, mine has gardening and dogs, artist, ocean playground and
01:02 - 01:05
soccer. So I'm hoping you have your list with you,
01:06 - 01:11
and we can go over the idea of what to
01:11 - 01:13
do with that list On what strategy we can use
01:14 - 01:16
to really figure out if I am an expert on
01:16 - 01:17
any one of those topics.
01:18 - 01:20
So the strategy is just using your five fingers.
01:21 - 01:25
Um And so in going in my list, two topics
01:26 - 01:28
that I wrote down gardening and ocean.
01:29 - 01:30
I'm very interested in both.
01:30 - 01:31
And I enjoy both.
01:32 - 01:34
Um, so let's start with gardening.
01:35 - 01:38
So if I have my five fingers, I want to
01:38 - 01:40
get five fingers up when I'm thinking about my topic
01:40 - 01:40
of gardening.
01:41 - 01:43
Um, what could I write about?
01:44 - 01:46
Well, plants and gardens.
01:46 - 01:47
You need water and sunlight.
01:49 - 01:52
Um, there's different types of plants, annuals and perennials.
01:54 - 01:56
Um, there's indoor and outdoor plants.
01:59 - 02:00
Why would I be gardening?
02:01 - 02:01
Is it just for fun?
02:02 - 02:03
Enjoyment for flowers?
02:04 - 02:08
Could I Could I be growing some kind of food
02:09 - 02:12
also, Um, and where do I garden?
02:13 - 02:14
Would I just be gardening in my backyard?
02:15 - 02:17
If I'm growing food, could I grow in my backyard?
02:18 - 02:20
Where else would I be gardening?
02:21 - 02:22
Um, so I have five fingers.
02:23 - 02:25
I probably could get started on that topic.
02:27 - 02:30
Um, but I'm also gonna think about my other choice.
02:30 - 02:31
I really enjoy the ocean.
02:31 - 02:32
You all know.
02:33 - 02:34
Um, so let me see how I could go with
02:35 - 02:39
that. So I live on the east Coast, so I
02:39 - 02:40
know the Atlantic Ocean.
02:41 - 02:43
I know there's lots of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean
02:45 - 02:47
to visit once I'm at the beach.
02:47 - 02:49
There's lots of different activities, not just swimming.
02:51 - 02:53
Um, I've also been out to the West Coast, so
02:53 - 02:55
I know a little bit about the Pacific Ocean.
02:56 - 03:02
Wondering, Could I compare the Pacific Ocean on duh Atlantic
03:03 - 03:04
Ocean? He's coast to the West Coast.
03:05 - 03:05
Could I compare the coastlines?
03:07 - 03:10
Could I compare the plant life, Maybe the sea life?
03:12 - 03:14
Um, of those two different types of oceans.
03:14 - 03:16
So I even have more than five fingers.
03:16 - 03:19
So I actually think that would be my better choice
03:19 - 03:20
to start with.
03:21 - 03:27
Um So when I look back at my topic list,
03:27 - 03:29
yes, I probably start with oceans and gardening.
03:31 - 03:39
Um, and we can go back to what we were
03:40 - 03:40
thinking about.
03:45 - 03:46
So that's our topic.
03:47 - 03:50
Ideas that we were using, Um, and what I want
03:50 - 03:52
you to do now, if you've gone through your topic
03:52 - 03:57
ideas, um, using that five finger strategy, we're gonna do
03:57 - 03:57
some try.
03:57 - 04:02
It's And the Triads are really just a piece of
04:02 - 04:05
paper. I'm going to give you a try.
04:05 - 04:06
A number one and two.
04:06 - 04:07
Try it.
04:07 - 04:12
Number two, you can certainly copy those papers again.
04:12 - 04:14
We need to keep the original for others to use.
04:15 - 04:17
But you could You could use a plain piece of
04:17 - 04:20
paper also, and just label it number one and number
04:21 - 04:25
two. And as I showed you and shared with you,
04:26 - 04:35
um, I most likely would start with my ocean, Um,
04:36 - 04:40
idea, because I did come up with more seven fingers
04:40 - 04:41
worth of information.
04:41 - 04:42
I think so.
04:42 - 04:45
I would probably start with my ocean topic and right
04:46 - 04:48
as much as I possibly could about that, I might
04:48 - 04:48
try it paper.
04:49 - 04:52
And then later in the afternoon or the next day,
04:52 - 04:56
I could try it with my next topic Thought, um,
04:56 - 04:59
gardening, because I I'm probably do know enough to write
05:00 - 05:00
about that.
05:01 - 05:04
Um and I know in reading we've been noticing a
05:04 - 05:08
lot of nonfiction features, but for right now, we'll get
05:09 - 05:10
to the different features for shore and writing.
05:11 - 05:13
But for right now, I want you to just focus
05:14 - 05:16
on choosing a topic you think you really are.
05:17 - 05:18
Use that five finger test.
05:19 - 05:22
Um, did you really think you are an expert in
05:23 - 05:26
and right as much as you possibly can be the
05:26 - 05:28
expert Happy writing.
05:28 - 05:29
And we'll see you next time.
