00:02 - 00:03
Hi thanks for joining today.
00:03 - 00:06
We're going to go over an area for continuous quality
00:06 - 00:08
improvement at Seattle Grace Hospital.
00:11 - 00:14
In a hospital setting, patient satisfaction is linked to the
00:14 - 00:14
rates of wasted food.
00:15 - 00:20
Patients who receive incorrect items, incorrect amounts of items or
00:20 - 00:23
incorrectly. There's of items are more likely to waste their
00:23 - 00:26
food items at Seattle Grace hospital patient satisfaction is very
00:27 - 00:30
important. It's very important that patients receive the correct try
00:30 - 00:38
items. The research question is well receiving the correct supplement,
00:39 - 00:41
flavor and amount contribute to patient satisfaction.
00:44 - 00:48
So for this research design we chose a survey to
00:49 - 00:52
examine patient satisfaction as it relates to the correct supplement
00:52 - 00:59
amount and flavor methodology, the inclusion criteria.
01:00 - 01:03
We needed 50 patients to complete the study.
01:03 - 01:06
Uh those patients need to be over 18 years of
01:06 - 01:08
age and they needed to be receiving supplements.
01:09 - 01:12
Um so the study was conducted over 14 days.
01:13 - 01:15
Information was collected through the patient survey.
01:16 - 01:19
Um patient charts and patient menus.
01:22 - 01:25
The variables that we measured in this study where age,
01:25 - 01:28
sex, the unit, the patient was in the type of
01:28 - 01:31
supplement they were prescribed the amount of supplement that was
01:31 - 01:34
ordered, the flavor that the patient ordered, The amount that
01:34 - 01:37
was provided to the patient, the flavor that was provided
01:37 - 01:39
to the patient and the amount that the patient consumed.
01:43 - 01:46
Yeah. So the results of the study showed that 93.3
01:48 - 01:51
of the time the correct flavor was delivered, which means
01:52 - 01:56
that 6.67 of the time the incorrect flavor is delivered.
01:56 - 02:00
However, um much more surprising we found that only 53.3
02:02 - 02:04
of the time was the correct and not being delivered
02:04 - 02:08
to the patient, Which meant that 46.6 nearly half the
02:08 - 02:11
time the incorrect amount of being delivered to the patient.
02:14 - 02:21
Um We gathered patient satisfaction scores using a survey and
02:21 - 02:22
it was out of a five point scale.
02:23 - 02:25
The mean subtraction score was 3.9.
02:26 - 02:31
The medium was four and the mod was for so
02:32 - 02:34
based on the results of the patient satisfaction survey.
02:35 - 02:38
On patient satisfaction was not solely influenced by the labor
02:39 - 02:39
of supplement received.
02:40 - 02:44
Um There are many other factors contributing to patient satisfaction
02:47 - 02:50
based on the study and the results that we gathered.
02:51 - 02:54
Um We concluded that the staff who is responsible for
02:54 - 02:58
measuring pouring and delivering the supplement should receive additional training
02:59 - 03:02
on the importance of providing the correct amount of supplement,
03:03 - 03:06
how that can affect patient outcomes and patient recovery times
03:07 - 03:08
along with patients out affection.
03:09 - 03:11
Um We also would like to implement a double check
03:12 - 03:14
system at the end of the trail line to ensure
03:15 - 03:17
that patients are receiving the correct items and the appropriate
03:18 - 03:22
amount. These steps will likely increase patient satisfaction and overall
03:22 - 03:25
nutrition and will definitely save Seattle grace money from wasted
03:26 - 03:27
supplement and food in the long run.
03:30 - 03:31
Thank you for joining.
03:31 - 03:32
That's all I have for you today.
