00:00 - 00:03
Hi, I'm Ryan Mcfarland and I am currently a sophomore
00:03 - 00:04
at Phillip J.
00:04 - 00:08
Pitino School of entrepreneurs, you might be wondering what does
00:08 - 00:08
this even about?
00:09 - 00:12
Well, I've got your answer, this is a reflection of
00:12 - 00:13
my year at Patina.
00:14 - 00:16
Throughout this year there's been a number of challenges, most
00:16 - 00:21
being the major shift from education in the classroom, education
00:23 - 00:23
through a screen.
00:24 - 00:28
The disastrous pandemic was of course, the reason behind this
00:28 - 00:32
major shift because of this going back to school was
00:32 - 00:34
to say the least odd.
00:37 - 00:40
Not being able to learn inside the classroom, surrounded by
00:40 - 00:44
students learning and striving for better is much different than
00:44 - 00:45
this taking place at your own home.
00:46 - 00:47
The level of collaboration decreases.
00:48 - 00:51
The connection during, in person learning is just much different.
00:52 - 00:58
But obviously you always have to persevere this time in
00:58 - 01:00
my life reminds me of a quote phone of my
01:00 - 01:04
favorite movies, Good will hunting that says you'll have bad
01:04 - 01:06
times, but that will always wake you up to the
01:06 - 01:08
good stuff you weren't paying attention to.
01:09 - 01:11
This quote truly expresses through perseverance.
01:12 - 01:14
I made the best out of this school year that
01:14 - 01:17
I possibly could and I really connect to this quote
01:18 - 01:22
right throughout my client internship.
01:23 - 01:24
I had done a lot of collaboration in many ways
01:25 - 01:28
this year and my on my marketing class, we worked
01:28 - 01:33
with real clients and in teams as students during an
01:33 - 01:37
internship. Oh the link that you see is the website
01:38 - 01:41
that my team, the freethinkers created for our client, big
01:41 - 01:42
nasty detail.
01:43 - 01:46
This photo is of the section I created from my
01:46 - 01:47
website for the website.
01:49 - 01:52
I contributed to my team success as the communicator in
01:52 - 01:56
a number of ways, communicating with the client through Asana,
01:57 - 02:00
keeping up to date with meeting times and what is
02:00 - 02:03
needed and making sure my team and the client is
02:04 - 02:07
100% ready, ensure that they know when those meetings will
02:08 - 02:11
be and how to get to them, Making sure that
02:11 - 02:14
my team can communicate together well and without any issues
02:15 - 02:18
and if there is any problems between my team or
02:19 - 02:24
the client um or issues or needs or anything that
02:25 - 02:28
I will talk to the teacher and inform him about
02:29 - 02:33
them. I've gained many skills throughout the plant internship.
02:36 - 02:40
Mhm. The new skills that I have learned during this
02:40 - 02:44
process are we have designed ins and outs learning html.
02:45 - 02:50
Learning how to stylized and design a website based off
02:50 - 02:51
of certain brands.
02:51 - 02:54
And I had a very fun time being creative and
02:55 - 02:57
really be able to learn how to do this for
02:57 - 02:59
the first time and something I would always wanted to
02:59 - 03:03
learn how to do um and communicating and working with
03:03 - 03:03
a real client.
03:04 - 03:08
This was a very interesting and fun new way to
03:08 - 03:12
learn and it gave me a real life experience that
03:12 - 03:14
I had never had before, and that was very grateful
03:15 - 03:15
for it.
03:15 - 03:19
Um Learning to navigate functioning client team relationship and the
03:19 - 03:23
ins and outs of that email marketing basics through mail
03:23 - 03:25
chimp and working in Wordpress into L.
03:25 - 03:30
A. Mentor um That was very fun to challenging at
03:30 - 03:34
first to navigate, but ultimately fun and good to learn
03:35 - 03:38
how um I can use that platform to possibly be
03:38 - 03:42
creative and for possible my business in the future.
03:43 - 03:46
Uh and managing how a team communicates.
03:48 - 03:51
My mindset as an entrepreneur has grown in many ways.
03:52 - 03:55
Throughout this school year, I have learned how to be
03:55 - 03:57
flexible and ready for a change as a result of
03:57 - 04:02
pandemic, learning, Navigating new ways of learning this year, every
04:02 - 04:06
class helped me grow in many therefore ways in history.
04:07 - 04:10
We actually were able to use Minecraft, the student version
04:10 - 04:15
school version of Minecraft to build a battle, a World
04:15 - 04:15
War One battle.
04:16 - 04:19
So we each team, we got put into teams and
04:19 - 04:23
we each cut, um, we were able to pick a
04:23 - 04:26
battle from World War One that we wanted to do.
04:26 - 04:29
And in this, with this battle, we had to go
04:29 - 04:34
into a Minecraft World and create from scratch a, uh,
04:34 - 04:38
this battle and show different soldiers and the captains and
04:39 - 04:41
the weather and the terrain and everything and everything had
04:42 - 04:42
to look like the battle.
04:43 - 04:45
And then we had to write a script and we
04:45 - 04:48
had to present and tell the story of this battle
04:48 - 04:49
through this Minecraft world.
04:50 - 04:52
It was a very fun and creative and although time
04:52 - 04:59
consuming and ultimately, or, and I mean pretty challenging project
05:01 - 05:04
in the end, it was very, it was, it was
05:04 - 05:07
very relieving and it felt great to know that we
05:07 - 05:09
made that and we were able to hold that off
05:10 - 05:12
in just a week and it was very fun and
05:13 - 05:14
creative project to be able to do.
05:14 - 05:17
And in chemistry we used camera to create many infographics
05:17 - 05:23
throughout the school year campus, a poster, infographic, live video,
05:24 - 05:32
Many other technology based website um that I have mainly
05:32 - 05:33
used for posters and infographics.
05:34 - 05:36
I used it a little bit in 9th grade, but
05:36 - 05:37
not too much.
05:38 - 05:41
So being able to really take a deep dive in
05:41 - 05:45
chemistry because lots of our assignments and projects were um
05:47 - 05:50
or infographics and we had to use campus for and
05:50 - 05:53
I was very glad to be able to be as
05:53 - 05:55
creative as I want and learn the ins and outs
05:55 - 05:58
and learn the small little details that you can add
05:59 - 06:00
to your infographic to make it truly yours.
06:01 - 06:04
And in english we used how to learn Prezi um
06:05 - 06:09
which is what I'm using right now to have a
06:09 - 06:13
fun and interactive way to pitch throughout this, uh making
06:13 - 06:17
this presentation to making this pitch um in this reflection,
06:17 - 06:20
I have had so much fun being able to learn
06:20 - 06:24
the tiny little minute details that you can add to
06:24 - 06:29
your presentation and finding a template and presentation that I
06:29 - 06:34
feel really fits myself as an entrepreneur person and just
06:34 - 06:38
as a learner and I find I I found that
06:38 - 06:40
it was very fun to be able to be creative
06:41 - 06:44
in this way and um show my full potential through
06:45 - 06:47
a website that I had never been able to do
06:47 - 06:52
before because I felt I had complete creative freedom using
06:52 - 06:58
Prezi and in many other classes and sources uh improved
06:58 - 07:03
my entrepreneurial mindset and I'm so grateful for all the
07:03 - 07:05
opportunities that I have had this school school year.
07:06 - 07:10
They have all, although been from home and from a
07:10 - 07:15
far distance have been great opportunities and as good of
07:15 - 07:17
opportunities as you can get in this type of learning
07:17 - 07:22
environment. The last stride this school year has been a
07:22 - 07:25
lot on everybody inside and out of school and it
07:26 - 07:28
taught us how to be stronger and more adopt adaptive
07:28 - 07:32
learners and, but I am very content and fulfilled and
07:32 - 07:34
happy with what I accomplished a school year.
07:35 - 07:40
And I believe this pitch reflects that I am proud
07:40 - 07:43
of how far all the students at Patino have come
07:43 - 07:47
despite the many struggles along the way, you have a
07:47 - 07:48
good rest duty.
