00:08 - 00:12
All right. I think we're all connected here. Can everyone hear me?
00:12 - 00:17
All right, let's see here. I can't see anyone just yet up. There we go.
00:17 - 00:20
Can everyone see me. All right.
00:20 - 00:21
A very, very good Well,
00:21 - 00:24
good morning everyone and welcome to Kendra Nicole's intake center.
00:24 - 00:26
We are very happy to have you here.
00:26 - 00:29
If you don't know. My name is Valencia. I am the founder
00:30 - 00:35
as well as the owner of Kendra Nicole's intake center. So once again, welcome.
00:35 - 00:35
Okay,
00:36 - 00:36
they'll
00:37 - 00:38
probably even go here.
00:39 - 00:40
What's your name?
00:41 - 00:45
Yana. Well, Arianna, I'm pretty happy you asked that question.
00:45 - 00:47
So, if most of you don't know,
00:47 - 00:51
I actually once was a foster care kid myself and I do know once you hit the age of 15,
00:51 - 00:54
there's really no hope for an adoption or fostering.
00:54 - 00:59
So, I created this program for anyone between the ages of 15, 2, 17,
00:59 - 01:01
about to age out of foster care or about to
01:01 - 01:03
graduate high school and going into the real world.
01:04 - 01:07
I was once in my young twenties and I didn't know what I wanted to do in
01:07 - 01:12
life until one day I saw this quote by Maya Angelo and it really struck me,
01:13 - 01:14
the quote is,
01:14 - 01:17
if you are going down a road and you don't like what's in front
01:17 - 01:20
of you and you look back and you don't like what you see,
01:20 - 01:23
get off the road and create a new path.
01:23 - 01:25
That's why I went to school.
01:25 - 01:30
I got my life together and I created Kendra Nicole's intake.
01:32 - 01:34
Our mission statement here. Oh, I'm sorry, go ahead.
01:36 - 01:37
So, how did you get to this point?
01:38 - 01:38
Well,
01:39 - 01:39
I'm getting to that
01:41 - 01:43
our purpose here at Kendra Nicole is to
01:43 - 01:46
become a beacon of hope through input empathy and
01:46 - 01:49
individualization to give you a sense of hope.
01:52 - 01:55
No, I believe the young lady in the back. What was your name?
01:56 - 01:56
My name?
01:56 - 01:59
Yes, so my name is um
02:00 - 02:01
as a handler.
02:01 - 02:02
Alright, alejandra.
02:02 - 02:07
Well you asked me how did I get here and I'm going to share that experience with you.
02:08 - 02:08
Okay.
02:09 - 02:10
First I graduated William T.
02:10 - 02:16
Dwyer High School in 2014 in Palm Beach County Go Panthers, if any of you are there.
02:20 - 02:23
Alrighty then I pretty much as I said before, wandered around in my 20's,
02:23 - 02:25
I didn't really know what I wanted to do until in
02:25 - 02:28
my late 20's I decided to go back to school.
02:29 - 02:33
I went to valencia College where I met my professor, Dr Shetty Doctor Shop,
02:33 - 02:38
pretty much was my introduction to the college experience professor.
02:38 - 02:42
What she did was she gave me these assignments and we
02:42 - 02:45
had to figure out pretty much what we wanted to do,
02:45 - 02:48
plan out what we see ourselves in a few years and it really got
02:48 - 02:50
me thinking of what I wanted to do and what I want to become.
02:50 - 02:54
So once I graduated with my a a I went on to
02:54 - 02:59
University of central florida where I got my bachelor's in science in
02:59 - 03:04
kinesiology as well as my master's in kinesiology applied and was accepted
03:04 - 03:09
into the program of physical therapy as well to become a doctor.
03:09 - 03:13
Their program is actually number two in the state and I can't go on without saying
03:13 - 03:14
go knights.
03:16 - 03:17
All right.
03:18 - 03:23
So after I went there, I pretty much had to do my residency after I was
03:23 - 03:24
done with school.
03:24 - 03:28
So I went back home to Palm Beach County and I
03:28 - 03:30
went to ST mary's Hospital to start my year residency.
03:31 - 03:34
I then came back to Orlando to get my specialty.
03:34 - 03:37
Does anyone know why you need a specialty?
03:38 - 03:43
Well you need a specialty in order to pretty much specialize what you're going to do.
03:43 - 03:46
So yes, I'm a doctor of physical therapy. But what was I going to do with it?
03:47 - 03:51
So, I went back to Orlando health and that's where I specialized in pediatrics.
03:53 - 03:56
After that I came back to Palm Beach and I
03:56 - 04:00
went to Wellington Regional when I went to Wellington Regional.
04:00 - 04:04
I mastered the art of sports therapy in medicine
04:04 - 04:07
as well as a certificate to assist the elderly.
04:08 - 04:09
Any questions so far
04:10 - 04:11
so
04:16 - 04:19
I'm sorry. I think we are breaking up.
04:21 - 04:21
Mhm.
04:24 - 04:24
Uh huh.
04:25 - 04:27
All right. I apologize about that.
04:27 - 04:30
I thought our connection was going out again guys,
04:30 - 04:32
this is live for those who don't believe me.
04:33 - 04:39
Today's day is December 5th of 2041 and you may hear a few interruptions.
04:39 - 04:41
I actually am sitting in my office if you can tell I am at
04:41 - 04:45
work I have my white coat on right now while we are filming this.
04:45 - 04:49
Okay, so I do apologize in advance already any questions.
04:49 - 04:50
So
04:50 - 04:52
all that work, all that study
04:53 - 04:55
to become a physical therapy.
04:55 - 04:57
Yes. Just to become a physical therapist,
04:58 - 05:00
you guys even do?
05:01 - 05:01
Well,
05:02 - 05:03
I can tell you what I do on a daily,
05:04 - 05:05
pretty much every day.
05:05 - 05:08
I would come to the hospital and I have a schedule where
05:08 - 05:12
I go to many different facilities like on monday Tuesdays and Wednesdays,
05:12 - 05:16
I go to the cancer ward, denies this Children to save
05:16 - 05:18
evenings. I do go to
05:19 - 05:20
the
05:20 - 05:21
the
05:23 - 05:28
I'm sorry, it seems like we're breaking up again. Everyone hear me already.
05:28 - 05:30
So as I was saying on Tuesdays,
05:30 - 05:38
I do go to the vet hospital as well to assist our veterans who have been injured in war.
05:38 - 05:39
Okay.
05:39 - 05:44
I also assist the elderly Fridays add nursing homes
05:44 - 05:47
so therefore I can assist them helping them walk.
05:47 - 05:51
Now, that does seem like a lot. So let me break it down for you.
05:51 - 05:57
Most physical therapists assist people who have pretty much been injured,
05:57 - 05:58
lost a limb
05:58 - 06:03
or have had a major surgery and they need help walking again,
06:03 - 06:06
gaining their strength as well as trying to have
06:06 - 06:09
helped to become independent on a daily basis.
06:10 - 06:15
Does that answer your question? Yes, I did. Thank you. And it's my pleasure.
06:15 - 06:18
Now, I believe the second part of your question was why do we have so much schooling?
06:18 - 06:22
We have so much schooling just to make sure we are doing our jobs properly
06:22 - 06:27
and that we understand and I do take the time to take extra classes.
06:27 - 06:29
Even now after I've already graduated just so I
06:29 - 06:32
can stay up to date with everything going on
06:33 - 06:36
now again you guys are here so I can help you.
06:36 - 06:41
I see myself in a lot of you and that's the reason I want to help.
06:41 - 06:45
I want to make sure that you all are able to get the best of everything that you need.
06:46 - 06:50
No, another question you guys may have is what did it cost?
06:50 - 06:54
Well the good thing for all of you just like me it costs nothing.
06:54 - 06:58
You have a full ride to school up until you're 35
06:58 - 07:01
and thankfully I'm not gonna tell you how old I am
07:02 - 07:03
cute joke.
07:04 - 07:05
No, but seriously,
07:05 - 07:09
I'm not gonna tell you guys how old I am but you have until 35 to get
07:09 - 07:14
any degree that you want in any school and that's how I pretty much did it.
07:14 - 07:19
I do know that if you go after 35 and you want to go back to school, you still can.
07:19 - 07:22
But right now for us it is completely free and
07:22 - 07:24
that's exactly why I do what I do to make sure
07:24 - 07:28
you know everything that you need to survive in life
07:28 - 07:30
and to get all the benefits that you do need.
07:31 - 07:31
Okay,
07:33 - 07:33
well
07:33 - 07:37
now before we go, I also own my own practice as well.
07:37 - 07:41
That is valencia's kids where I hope kids every single day. Yes.
07:42 - 07:44
Hi, Hi,
07:46 - 07:46
how
07:47 - 07:48
are you?
07:49 - 07:52
Well, I am on the intake, I will be there in about five minutes.
07:52 - 07:57
Just go ahead and let them know. Let me wrap up here. Okay, thank you. Well guys,
07:57 - 08:01
I want it to once again welcome you into Kendra Nichols intake center.
08:01 - 08:05
I do have a patient I have to get to so I will have to cut this short.
08:05 - 08:07
Miss Maria will be assisting you with everything else that you need.
08:07 - 08:11
I am always only a phone call away, phone call,
08:11 - 08:14
email or sometimes you may need someone to talk to.
08:14 - 08:20
You can send me a text as well. Okay, you guys enjoy your intake day and stay hopeful.
