00:01 - 00:03
Hello and welcome to my presentation
00:03 - 00:06
on developing and sustaining employee engagement.
00:06 - 00:09
My name is Maria. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy.
00:11 - 00:15
So first on the agenda today is my introduction where I'll be introducing
00:15 - 00:20
my topic and explaining why it's so important to um workplace development.
00:20 - 00:25
Next I'll be introducing key topics such as major benefits of employee engagement
00:26 - 00:29
And then go right into five key elements of engagement.
00:29 - 00:31
And then we'll look at how to measure
00:31 - 00:34
engagement levels in the workplace using surveys.
00:35 - 00:38
I will then conclude by making recommendations and
00:38 - 00:40
welcoming any questions that you might have.
00:42 - 00:45
What is the cost of disengaged employees?
00:45 - 00:47
The answer will surprise you.
00:47 - 00:53
A study on employee engagement found that companies in the United States lose
00:53 - 01:01
between $450 to $550 billion dollars each year due to disengaged employees.
01:02 - 01:08
A single disengaged employee costs the company about $3,400
01:08 - 01:13
in lost productivity for every $10,000 in salary.
01:14 - 01:14
That's a lot.
01:18 - 01:21
But how and why does engagement contribute to
01:21 - 01:25
the overall success and longevity of an organization?
01:26 - 01:26
Well,
01:26 - 01:30
let's take dive into major benefits of engaged employees and
01:30 - 01:34
why keeping them engaged improves and strengthens corporate culture.
01:36 - 01:39
So first team goals become achievable,
01:40 - 01:44
A noticeable improvement in productivity and performance
01:45 - 01:47
increases in the workplace.
01:49 - 01:49
Then
01:50 - 01:54
the reduction of the risk of burnout.
01:55 - 01:58
Next we have high retention and low turnover
01:59 - 02:00
and lastly
02:01 - 02:03
deeks decreased absenteeism
02:04 - 02:07
to some of the benefits of engagement, improving your corporate culture
02:08 - 02:12
will help companies boost workforce engagement, job satisfaction,
02:12 - 02:15
employee retention and profitability.
02:16 - 02:20
It will foster a pleasant work environment where employees will thrive
02:21 - 02:23
and amplified business success.
02:24 - 02:28
So on this next side I'll introduce on the magic model
02:28 - 02:34
um that basically discusses the factors that contribute to engagement levels.
02:35 - 02:39
Research on over 50 million employees helped discover
02:39 - 02:43
that these five elements that spell out magic.
02:43 - 02:43
Mhm.
02:44 - 02:46
Directly contribute
02:46 - 02:47
two
02:47 - 02:51
employee engagement levels or a decrease in employee engagement levels.
02:53 - 02:55
So the M. Stands for meaning
02:56 - 02:59
your work has a purpose beyond the job itself.
03:00 - 03:03
A stands for autonomy,
03:04 - 03:07
the power to shape and to work.
03:08 - 03:11
Um An environment that allows you to perform at your best
03:13 - 03:15
G stands for growth
03:15 - 03:18
being challenged in ways that result in
03:18 - 03:21
personal and professional development or progress.
03:22 - 03:28
I stands for impact, seeing positive and. Effectual outcomes
03:28 - 03:29
in your work,
03:30 - 03:31
N. C.
03:31 - 03:32
Connection,
03:33 - 03:35
the sense of belonging to something beyond yourself.
03:37 - 03:40
Survey items that measure these five engagement
03:40 - 03:45
um contributions must also measure outcomes perceptions,
03:45 - 03:48
attitudes and beliefs just so we can really
03:48 - 03:51
grasp how the employee feels in the workplace.
03:55 - 04:00
So this survey here is from Gallup, Gallup employee engagement survey.
04:00 - 04:05
Um according to Gallup's most recent research, 51%,
04:05 - 04:10
as you can see on the graph here of employees are disengaged in the workplace.
04:11 - 04:14
13% are actively disengaged
04:15 - 04:20
actively disengaged employees are employees that are noticeably unhappy
04:20 - 04:23
and spread negative vibes to their colleagues at work.
04:24 - 04:30
And lastly 36% of engaged of employees were actually engaged
04:30 - 04:34
which is rather low but it is the highest number since
04:34 - 04:38
Gallop started measuring employee engagement back in the 2000s
04:39 - 04:44
effective surveys produce results that will help managers and leaders determine
04:44 - 04:48
um what action specifically and what area
04:48 - 04:51
specifically need the most improvement and focus.
04:52 - 04:55
So the questions should revolve around how
04:55 - 04:57
employees feel in the workplace so that the
04:57 - 05:00
appropriate and most effective action plans can
05:00 - 05:03
be implemented for optimal results of course.
05:05 - 05:09
So here are some survey questions or some examples of survey questions.
05:09 - 05:15
Um there's two types um we'll look at the first one anchor questions.
05:15 - 05:18
This first type of ankle question will explore
05:18 - 05:21
how employees again currently feel their current job.
05:22 - 05:27
The first question asks employees if it's easy to become engaged in their job.
05:27 - 05:31
This question indicates how an employee feels at work,
05:32 - 05:35
is the job motivating and is it rewarding?
05:35 - 05:37
Um We see the second question here says,
05:37 - 05:41
I would recommend this company as a great place to work.
05:41 - 05:44
This question evaluates the level of commitment
05:44 - 05:45
a person feels towards their company.
05:46 - 05:51
And our third question here says most days I look forward to coming to work.
05:52 - 05:56
This question evaluates an individual's sense of belonging in the workplace.
05:57 - 06:03
A sense of belonging is most often times the most the main driver of engagement.
06:03 - 06:08
So when employees understand and how and why
06:08 - 06:12
their their contributions impact the entire organization,
06:12 - 06:14
their work becomes more significant to them.
06:16 - 06:18
These are sample magic questions.
06:18 - 06:20
Um Again,
06:20 - 06:22
these questions investigate the five key
06:22 - 06:25
drivers of engagement discussed earlier on.
06:25 - 06:28
Um And so these questions evaluate Governor governor
06:28 - 06:34
governance policies and procedures in the overall workplace.
06:35 - 06:40
So for meaning we have my job provides me with a sense of meaning and purpose
06:42 - 06:46
for autonomy. I have the freedom to choose how to best perform my job
06:48 - 06:49
for growth.
06:49 - 06:51
I feel challenged in my job in a
06:51 - 06:54
way that results in personal and professional development
06:55 - 06:59
impact. Most days I see positive results because of my work
07:00 - 07:03
and connection. I feel like I belong here.
07:06 - 07:10
So in conclusion, after extensive research on this topic,
07:10 - 07:13
developing and sustaining employee engagement.
07:13 - 07:16
The following recommendations have been made to um
07:16 - 07:20
strengthen the overall culture and increase engagement levels.
07:21 - 07:25
So first we have measure engagement levels using surveys
07:25 - 07:28
or other methods of data collection are fine.
07:28 - 07:32
Um consistently to focus on which areas of the organization need improvement.
07:33 - 07:36
Second recommendation is recognizing top performance.
07:36 - 07:38
So for example giving genuine and honest
07:38 - 07:42
feedback or recognition programs for employees.
07:42 - 07:46
And lastly practicing effective communication,
07:46 - 07:50
effective communication can be really helpful to
07:50 - 07:54
the employee's success and development and providing
07:54 - 07:58
constructive feedback can help them improve and
07:58 - 08:01
um make overall adjustments in their work.
08:02 - 08:04
So examples can be using the company
08:04 - 08:07
internet to advertise personal or company successes.
08:08 - 08:11
Um So thanks for watching again, I really hope you enjoyed this.
08:11 - 08:13
Please let me know if you have any questions.
08:13 - 08:20
I welcome them and I appreciate them and um thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed
