  1. Oh, the weather outside is frightful.
  2. What Fire is so delightful.
  3. E o morning, everyone.
  4. E e was just staring out the window at the
  5. snow. It's cold.
  6. One today is gonna be cold all week.
  7. As such, I'm bundled up.
  8. Um but I'm inside, so I don't need all this
  9. more on this later.
  10. Um, yes.
  11. 00 my God, it's such And there's so much to
  12. talk about today.
  13. I'm so excited.
  14. So first of all, it's February.
  15. Whoa! We made it through January, the worst month in
  16. the history of the world.
  17. I do not like January.
  18. It is terrible and it's over.
  19. I apologize to anyone who has a January birthday.
  20. If you have a January birthday, January is awesome.
  21. But I for me, I don't.
  22. My birthday is in September.
  23. More about that later.
  24. Eso It's February, and February is a short month.
  25. The reason I love February is because, um, you know,
  26. January seems really long, and then February's a short month,
  27. and then it's March and it's pretty much spring.
  28. So that's why I like it, Um, and and there's
  29. so much going on this month, I don't know where
  30. to begin so First of all, tomorrow is Groundhog Day.
  31. That is the day that Phil tells us whether we're
  32. going to have more winter or less winter.
  33. Quite frankly, this year I'm tor kn because they're predicting
  34. a lot of snow for the week.
  35. And you know, we haven't had a lot of stone,
  36. and this is the one year when snow, you know,
  37. it's not an issue because we can't go anywhere so
  38. we can just sit and look at it being beautiful.
  39. I know it's a pain if you need to go
  40. out and walk somewhere, but so I'm kind of tourney
  41. about it this year.
  42. But no, of course I want it to be spring.
  43. And it did snow yesterday last night.
  44. I don't know about where you are, but where I
  45. am in Scotland.
  46. It snowed and they're predicting snow for the entire week.
  47. So I'm really excited about that because it just looks
  48. so nice when you look out the window and it's
  49. all snowy and everything is glistening and covered.
  50. And speaking of snow, the snowdrops air here.
  51. So you might have noticed that, um, some little flowers
  52. or peeping up those are probably snowdrops.
  53. There the first bulbs to appear.
  54. Then you get the crocuses and the tulips, and it
  55. means that spring is here.
  56. And the great thing about snowdrops is they often bloom
  57. in the snow.
  58. Hence the name.
  59. I think I don't know.
  60. I'm making that up.
  61. But anyway, I think it's nice combination to see the
  62. spring, the flowers and the snow, and they're still, you
  63. know, thriving.
  64. The next thing is that this week is the grand
  65. opening of the L.
  66. M. V C student lounge, so this means that you
  67. know all that social interaction you've been craving.
  68. Now you can go to the student lounge and meet
  69. your friends, meet your course mates, have a cup of
  70. coffee, have a chat place, Um, card games.
  71. Play some other games you're probably wondering, but wait a
  72. second. Amy were in lock down.
  73. We can't do that.
  74. It's not possible.
  75. It's illegal, in fact, and you are absolutely right.
  76. If the student lounge was an actual physical place, well,
  77. I guess it's physical.
  78. I don't know.
  79. It's a virtual space, right?
  80. So that's why it looks like there's this little video
  81. game on the screen on Dhe is a whole lot
  82. of fun, so you should be hearing more about that.
  83. I've already sent a message out to the post crowds
  84. about the various meeting times this week and next.
  85. So look out for messages from your class reps about
  86. when you could meet in the student lounge.
  87. Of course, it's open all the time.
  88. So if you want to set up your own meetings,
  89. you can, and also for staff.
  90. If you're listening, you're not left out because of.
  91. Of course, this week is the launch of the L.
  92. L M V C, and we are going to be
  93. meeting for coffee and drinks and different things throughout the
  94. week. I will be at the Brasserie at 5 p.m.
  95. On Wednesday.
  96. I'm very much looking forward to I'll be tending bar.
  97. So you know, moonlighting is a barmaid, and that's totally
  98. cool. So I hope that you will meet me there.
  99. Um, now, also, the university has launched a buddy scheme
  100. for students, which I think is great because it's a
  101. good way.
  102. I know that if you if you're new to the
  103. university, it was kind of hard to meet people last
  104. semester because we didn't have a lot of contact with
  105. people s.
  106. So I think this is really a great way Thio
  107. connect with people and, you know, meet new people.
  108. The no pressure.
  109. Obviously, if you feel like the person you don't have
  110. toe, continue talking to them.
  111. But I think it's good to know that there is
  112. someone there that you can talk to, so check that
  113. out. A lot of other interesting things happening around the
  114. university there is.
  115. The Jazz Society is having its first jam session on
  116. Wednesday, so check that out.
  117. Check out their Facebook page.
  118. Sounds like a lot of fun.
  119. And I would also recommend checking out the Aberdeen City
  120. Club. They're always doing viewing parties or watch parties, tele
  121. parties, whatever they're called these days.
  122. Andi, I've always been really curious about watch parties and
  123. how they work.
  124. Eso check them out and you can, you know, watch
  125. a film online with a bunch of people and talk
  126. about it afterward.
  127. Kind of different from what we're doing these days, Usually,
  128. which is watching Netflix by ourselves and, you know, thinking
  129. about it by ourselves.
  130. So this way it becomes a group activity, and now
  131. it is time.
  132. That moment you have been waiting for.
  133. Today is the day our very first special guest star.
  134. Okay, Who is it today?
  135. Who is it?
  136. Oh, it's a history.
  137. I'm sure you've been wondering.
  138. The special guest today is Professor Chris Collins, our new
  139. head. Well, he's not new, really.
  140. I mean, he started in the spring in the midst
  141. of the lock down.
  142. He is our head of school, our fearless leader, the
  143. head honchos leader in chief extraordinaire.
  144. And he is with us.
  145. Well, he's not with us now.
  146. I recorded this earlier, but with no further ado here
  147. is Chris Collins.
  148. I know the crowds were just going wild.
  149. I know that you're all that was just fantastic, wasn't
  150. it? I know.
  151. Yes. So thank you very much, Chris.
  152. That was awesome.
  153. So the last thing about February that I love is
  154. that it is the Super Bowl.
  155. And last week I told you I was I didn't
  156. know who is going to be playing in the Super
  157. Bowl and now Ideo.
  158. And it is one of my favorite players, Tom Brady
  159. t v 12, as he is known.
  160. And that is why I was wearing my New England
  161. Patriots hat at the start of this thing segment.
  162. Eso. The thing about Tom Brady is that a lot
  163. of people do not like him.
  164. A lot of people, I guess, love to hate him.
  165. So I'm just going to tell you why I like
  166. him. I am from Connecticut.
  167. I'm from New England and our team is the New
  168. England Patriots.
  169. We are.
  170. Connecticut is a small state.
  171. We don't have our own football team, so we share
  172. a team with all of New England.
  173. Now Connecticut is kind of split.
  174. Some people in Connecticut room for New York teams, but
  175. I was always of the Boston side leaning up towards
  176. the rest of New England as opposed toe New York.
  177. So that's where I was and I was not into
  178. football when I was was younger.
  179. Um, in fact, I played in the marching band in
  180. high school, and that really gave me a uh uh
  181. not ah lack of love for football because it's really
  182. cold. When you're watching football and trying to play the
  183. flute in a polyester uniforms with a plastic hat on,
  184. I'll show you some pictures next time.
  185. Um it was not pretty.
  186. But I do remember that, you know, the Patriots would
  187. always be on.
  188. There would always be a football game on on the
  189. weekends, and my cousin would be watching.
  190. And he would just be cursing the Patriots because yet
  191. again, they broke his heart yet again.
  192. They lost.
  193. And they were.
  194. They were just not a great team in the eighties
  195. and nineties.
  196. And then comes a new era, right?
  197. So this team that was always the underdog I wouldn't
  198. could never win.
  199. Um, suddenly started to become good, and it started with
  200. a new coach, a new quarterback.
  201. And the thing about Tom Brady is a quarterback is
  202. that he waas the sixth round draft pick.
  203. So he was the second to last quarterback to be
  204. picked. So I don't know if it's like that in
  205. the U K.
  206. Or in Europe.
  207. But in the US, we would have you know, you'd
  208. be in gym class in P E.
  209. And it's like, Okay, we're gonna play volleyball.
  210. So two sides.
  211. You're the captain.
  212. You're the captain.
  213. Pick your team, right.
  214. And you know so you pick the best players first.
  215. Right? First of all, it is never the captain.
  216. Um, and I was always picked last or almost last
  217. in gym because I wasn't good at sports.
  218. Right? So this is the professional equipped equivalent of being
  219. picked last in gym like no one believed in him.
  220. And all you need to do is tell me that
  221. someone is an underdog and no one believes in them.
  222. And that's the person I'm gonna believe in because, I
  223. don't know.
  224. Maybe, you know, they say that, you know, everyone loves
  225. an underdog story.
  226. Um, you know, I'm always rooting for the underdog.
  227. If there's a if they're two teams playing, and once
  228. the underdog, I root for the underdog.
  229. Unless it's my team, and then I'm always rooting for
  230. them. But anyway, so Tom Brady was with the New
  231. England Patriots for 20 years.
  232. Um, he's 43 which is really old, not really old,
  233. but really old Thio play like professional football as a
  234. quarterback, and this year he got he moved to the
  235. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which, you know, I don't blame him.
  236. Tampa Bay.
  237. It's nice and warm down there, and he is about
  238. to. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were an underdog like no
  239. one believed in them right?
  240. And now they're going to the Super Bowl.
  241. And it's if you ask Tom Brady, he'll be like,
  242. Well, it's the team.
  243. And that's another thing I like about him.
  244. He's so it's always about the team.
  245. It's not about him, Um and so So the Buccaneers
  246. were playing in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City
  247. Chiefs. Um, you have the 43 year old, 43 year
  248. old seasoned, experienced quarterback.
  249. He's 16 Super Bowls.
  250. Possibly he's gonna win his seventh, which is like, I
  251. think, the most a quarterback has ever wanted.
  252. You know, that would be the most.
  253. And he's going up against a younger quarterback who is
  254. also really good, and he's gonna have an amazing career.
  255. Eso it's It's gonna be an interesting game.
  256. So next Monday, I don't know if I have watched
  257. the Super Bowl yet because it's on so late at
  258. night. Eso I might not be able to be ecstatic
  259. or or or not, But the other thing I like
  260. about the New England Patriots and again Brady doesn't play
  261. for the Patriots anymore.
  262. But there's still my team because I'm from New England.
  263. And there's this side.
  264. There's this famous sign on the door when the team
  265. members leave the practice.
  266. You know, the practice building where the New England Patriots
  267. practice and it has this list of rules don't listen
  268. to or fuel the hype.
  269. Um, you know, speak for yourself and my absolute favorite
  270. is ignore the noise, and that applies to just about
  271. everything. And that's what I've been doing lately.
  272. Um, to really get through lock down is ignoring the
  273. noise. Uh, not watching too much of the news, not
  274. hearing, because every day it's like, Oh, it's great.
  275. Oh, it's terrible.
  276. Oh, we're making progress.
  277. Oh, we're not.
  278. And it's, you know, it's to make you go crazy.
  279. So just ignore the noise.
  280. And that also applies to the noise that anyone is
  281. spouting about you.
  282. You know, you're gonna hear throughout life, you're going to
  283. hear people say things about you.
  284. Oh, you don't have promise.
  285. You don't have what it takes to be such and
  286. such. Ignore it just like Tom Brady did.
  287. And he went on to be, You know, this great
  288. quarterback with this great career don't believe these outer critics
  289. just listen to yourself.
  290. Believe in yourself.
  291. Follow your heart.
  292. Now I'm getting really mushy and sentimental, so I think
  293. it is time to end the Monday message.
  294. But remember, don't forget the cinnamon by.
