  2. Pastor Israel here and as we approach the weekend, we
  3. may hear about a controversial topic being mentioned from the
  4. platform and I want to make sure that you feel
  5. equipped to be able to handle any discussion.

  16. And um, to translate that briefly, that's just our gay
  17. and lesbian community.
  18. We may hear words like transgender where people feel like
  19. they were born with the wrong sexual parts.
  20. And so that may create some discussion.
  21. And so what you might get is you might get
  22. some questions that feel like you're being cornered to produce
  23. the perfect answer.
  24. And a lot of people when they talk about these
  25. issues, uh they get real defensive and you might feel
  26. like all of a sudden you're about to approach a
  27. debate with a person and then all of a sudden
  28. we all get a little bit nervous and I just
  29. want to give you just a couple of things, some
  30. pro tips.
  31. If you will.
  32. Um I would say number one, stay away from three
  33. things, stay away from politics, policy science, and I would
  34. even throw this in there.
  35. Um I would even stay away from anything that looks
  36. like therapeutic change.
  37. Um I would simply say this instead of talking about
  38. those things, I would simply say that jesus loves everyone
  39. when someone comes up to you and says, what do
  40. you think about transgenderism?
  41. What do you think about people who are gay?
  42. And our response is simple, Jesus loves everyone.
  43. And um, if you want to go a little bit
  44. further, uh and a little bit deeper, this is what
  45. we believe.
  46. We believe this, that we experience the most fulfillment in
  47. life when we live as the people God created us
  48. to be.
  49. We live the best life we can when we live
  50. the lives that God has designed for us.
  51. And so in case you feel like that may not
  52. be enough, and most times it isn't rest assured.
  53. I would say this, invite them and be invitational about
  54. this, invite them to have a conversation because again, clarity
  55. is kindness.
  56. They want to know up front.
  57. What do you believe?
  58. Jesus loves them, Jesus loves you, Jesus loves me.
  59. We live our best lives when we live the life
  60. that God has created us to be.
  61. But if they want more information, here's here's the thing.
  62. Um we can have that conversation with them.
  63. We as an our team, our department.
  64. So here's what I would invite you to do.
  65. Just simply remember this and invite them to text, hear
  66. me to 2030 40 again.
  67. Hear me to 2030 40.
  68. This will allow them to have a conversation with the
  69. pastor. And what we will do on our end is
  70. we will create a safe space for this group of
  71. people to come in and to have a soft landing
  72. where they can fall apart.
  73. They can ask all these questions and we have the
  74. opportunity to show them grace and love.
  75. So that is how we plan on doing this and
  76. having those conversations because we know that no one's sexuality.
  77. No one's opinions are changed through debate.
  78. They are changed with love and connection and that's our
  79. goal to create a safe place for love and connection.
