00:01 - 00:03
Hello, this is my personal knowing signature assignment.
00:05 - 00:07
So my name is Charles Bukowski and this is the
00:08 - 00:10
picture of me when I graduated from Stockton.
00:10 - 00:14
You. Yeah, so a little bit of my background is
00:15 - 00:17
I am 1/4 generation american and I'll explain that shortly
00:18 - 00:21
I was born in fort Stewart Georgia at the Wind
00:21 - 00:25
Army Hospital on March 21st and I have lived in
00:25 - 00:25
four different states.
00:26 - 00:28
However, I only truly remember living in two of them,
00:29 - 00:32
but I have visited the other states that I did
00:32 - 00:32
live in.
00:33 - 00:35
English is the only spoken language within my family.
00:37 - 00:39
Some heritage is that my last name tells me I
00:39 - 00:39
am polish.
00:40 - 00:41
Rutkowski is very polish.
00:42 - 00:45
However, from my mom said, I also found out that
00:45 - 00:47
I'm irish and a little bit of german and also
00:48 - 00:49
some Czechoslovakian in there.
00:49 - 00:54
However, due to these being my heritage that doesn't portray
00:55 - 00:58
my culture, I don't truly follow any of these traditional
00:59 - 01:02
things from being polish or irish anything like that.
01:02 - 01:03
So I say that I am american.
01:03 - 01:05
My culture is that I am an american.
01:08 - 01:10
So some of my identities that portray who I am
01:10 - 01:13
are a woman, a sister, daughter teacher, I'm also a
01:13 - 01:17
Texan in New Jersey and and these identities help me
01:17 - 01:21
show my culture as an american.
01:25 - 01:30
Specifically some traditions that we follow are the traditional american
01:31 - 01:34
holidays. So we have christmas easter, which is hard to
01:34 - 01:38
present my favorite even though I'm not very religious easter,
01:38 - 01:40
still my favorite, mainly because of the colors and I
01:40 - 01:42
like to think of it as like a mini christmas.
01:43 - 01:46
We also celebrate the fourth of july Halloween, new york
01:46 - 01:50
thanksgiving and even Memorial Day, Labor Day, all those big
01:50 - 01:55
ST Patrick's Day, all those truly american holidays, me and
01:56 - 01:56
my family celebrates.
01:57 - 01:59
So as you can see, I definitely have a bunch
01:59 - 02:02
of pictures that portray each of these holidays.
02:03 - 02:07
However, depending on my identity as a Texan or a
02:07 - 02:10
new jersey and kind of depicts on where my tradition
02:11 - 02:13
goals and where we celebrate these holidays.
02:13 - 02:18
So for example, as a new Jersey and it is
02:18 - 02:19
custom to go to the beach.
02:20 - 02:23
100%. The beach is an hour away, Not even so
02:23 - 02:26
for New Years, not for the fourth of july, Memorial
02:27 - 02:29
Day, Labor Day, anything in that nature.
02:30 - 02:31
It's the beach, specifically.
02:32 - 02:33
Fourth of july is the big one.
02:33 - 02:37
We always go down and ran a short house or
02:37 - 02:40
A hotel room for the weekend and we dress up
02:40 - 02:43
4th of July colours all over and we just spend
02:44 - 02:46
the day at the beach we go and the boardwalk
02:46 - 02:48
on at night to see the fireworks.
02:50 - 02:54
However, as a Texan, that's not really a plus, like
02:54 - 02:55
that's not really a thick.
02:55 - 02:58
The beach specifically from where I lived was about four
02:58 - 02:59
hours away.
02:59 - 03:00
So it was very difficult to go to the beach
03:01 - 03:01
to celebrate.
03:02 - 03:05
But we still did the fireworks the fourth of july
03:05 - 03:07
colours and made sure that we were proud of where
03:07 - 03:10
we were for christmas specifically.
03:11 - 03:12
We always cut down our own tree.
03:13 - 03:15
It was a big thing to go and find the
03:15 - 03:17
perfect tree and cut it down and be able to
03:17 - 03:17
decorate it.
03:18 - 03:22
But for texas is not really that popular to do
03:22 - 03:22
that specifically.
03:23 - 03:28
Because of where, where would you get one?
03:28 - 03:30
Yes, they do have them.
03:30 - 03:31
Yes they do that.
03:31 - 03:34
My friends have done that but it wasn't as big
03:34 - 03:35
of a deal as it is here.
03:36 - 03:41
Yeah. So just some of the favorite foods that I
03:41 - 03:45
have from the american culture is a mixture of all
03:45 - 03:45
of our cultures.
03:46 - 03:48
American America is seen as the melting pot of the
03:48 - 03:53
United States, specifically because of everybody coming in settling here.
03:55 - 03:58
So we were able to incorporate multiple cultural food.
03:58 - 04:03
So we have pizza nachos, spaghetti seafood, but the true
04:04 - 04:07
american hamburger, I got, I love some cheese very specifically
04:08 - 04:11
on the fourth of july, but I also love being
04:11 - 04:14
able to eat foods from other cultures and trying different
04:14 - 04:17
things. My favorite thing to try and kind of love
04:18 - 04:21
to eat now is spaghetti tacos, kind of a mixture
04:21 - 04:23
of like a mexican and italian thing.
04:23 - 04:25
And I also like to add some seafood on there
04:25 - 04:26
sometimes just to give a little extra kick.
04:30 - 04:32
So my clothing that I like to say is my
04:32 - 04:35
american cultural holding is comfy.
04:35 - 04:38
I love to wear jeans and a T shirt, it
04:38 - 04:41
could be 90 degrees outside and I'm still wearing jeans,
04:41 - 04:43
they might be jean shorts, but they're so jeans and
04:44 - 04:44
I love to wear hoodie.
04:45 - 04:45
Hoodies are my favorite.
04:46 - 04:48
I also like to wear some workout clothes.
04:49 - 04:51
They are very comfy, their company to me.
04:51 - 04:54
And as you can see these three different pictures, I
04:54 - 04:56
have a hoodie on hoodies are my absolute favorite.
04:59 - 05:02
So the wedding is a big known cultural thing inside
05:03 - 05:06
the american tradition and it's every girl's little, every little
05:06 - 05:09
girl's dream, you dream of that white dress, your dad
05:09 - 05:12
walking you down the aisle, you dream of how you're
05:13 - 05:14
boyfriend is going to propose to you.
05:16 - 05:19
And for me that's depicted in these pictures, I haven't
05:19 - 05:23
had that dream come true yet, but I still try
05:23 - 05:26
to kind of planet even though it's not happening yet.
05:26 - 05:31
However, in the american tradition, a white dress is kind
05:31 - 05:33
of this statement white.
05:33 - 05:36
But even though that's the statement for american culture, it's
05:37 - 05:41
not the requirement as seeing as american, we get to
05:41 - 05:44
do whatever we pretty much whatever we want for our
05:44 - 05:47
big day, we can have it where we want, we
05:47 - 05:49
don't have this, we do that.
05:50 - 05:51
So for me it's the beach.
05:51 - 05:53
The beach would be my ideal.
05:53 - 05:54
Little little girls dream.
05:55 - 06:00
Yeah and here are just some fun activities and entertainment
06:01 - 06:03
that I done in the american tradition.
06:04 - 06:05
We like to play drinking games.
06:06 - 06:09
My family drinks a lot, but we also love to
06:09 - 06:10
go to the boardwalk and the beach.
06:11 - 06:13
Even when it's not a big holiday, we try to
06:13 - 06:14
do it as much as possible.
06:15 - 06:18
We do participate in like T ball, getting our daughter
06:18 - 06:22
in a bunch of different activities in my household, football
06:22 - 06:24
is a big big deal.
06:25 - 06:28
However, as you can see my daughter has got cowboys
06:28 - 06:31
and eagles on, so as my identity as a Texan,
06:32 - 06:35
I have my daughter in cowboys, but as my identity
06:35 - 06:38
as a New Jersey and specifically from her dad, she's
06:39 - 06:39
in her eagles.
06:40 - 06:42
But we both love the flyers, you can see it
06:42 - 06:42
for the top.
06:42 - 06:45
She does have her flyers gear and we do participate
06:45 - 06:45
that way.
06:47 - 06:48
These are just some fun little things that we get
06:49 - 06:53
to do, and that's my personal, knowing that's just a
06:54 - 06:56
little bit about my american culture and how I depict
06:57 - 06:57
myself.
