00:01 - 00:04
Hi. So for this project on the topic I chose
00:05 - 00:10
was um orcas in captivity and I chose this topic
00:10 - 00:12
because it's always been something that I followed and been
00:12 - 00:13
very passionate about.
00:14 - 00:16
I watched the blackfish documentary when I was in middle
00:16 - 00:19
school and it really, really stuck with me and I
00:19 - 00:21
have, you know, just kind of followed what's going on
00:21 - 00:23
with this situation ever since then.
00:24 - 00:27
And I picked this for this project specifically because I'm
00:27 - 00:30
just a couple of days ago, another worker whale died
00:31 - 00:31
in captivity.
00:31 - 00:32
Her name was a mayan.
00:33 - 00:35
She was only six years old, which is super, super
00:35 - 00:38
young um for an orca to just die.
00:39 - 00:41
Um they live to be like 50 or 60 in
00:41 - 00:41
a while.
00:41 - 00:43
So that's why I just kinda wanted to bring a
00:43 - 00:44
little bit of attention to this for right now.
00:45 - 00:47
So this is my instagram post as you can see,
00:48 - 00:50
it's a picture of two orcas playing in the wild,
00:51 - 00:53
you know, having fun, just living a really a really
00:53 - 00:56
happy normal life they were meant to live.
00:56 - 00:59
And then the caption I chose for this is the
00:59 - 00:59
ocean is their home.
01:00 - 01:01
And I wanted to go with a white fog to
01:02 - 01:04
kind of match the wheels and keep a nice kind
01:05 - 01:06
of cohesive calm aesthetic.
01:07 - 01:10
I wanted it to be like a quieter picture and
01:10 - 01:13
I chose to italicize the word home just to really
01:13 - 01:16
bring emphasis to it um, to kind of drive the
01:16 - 01:18
point that the aquariums and stuff are not the right
01:18 - 01:19
homes for them without the ocean is.
01:20 - 01:23
And so the attention getter here is the picture of
01:24 - 01:24
the veils themselves.
01:25 - 01:27
Um in my opinion, if you're scrolling through and you
01:27 - 01:28
see a picture like this, you kind of want to
01:28 - 01:29
stop and take a look at it.
01:30 - 01:35
And then the problem here is um obviously the issue
01:35 - 01:38
of whales like this still being captivity, you know, these
01:38 - 01:42
are not the kind of animals that can thrive or
01:42 - 01:44
even really survive clearly in this kind of lifestyle.
01:45 - 01:49
And then my solution here is um you know, back
01:49 - 01:51
in the caption is that the ocean is their home
01:51 - 01:54
and just kind of driving the point home that they
01:54 - 01:56
should not be in captivity, that they should be in
01:56 - 02:00
The option here is my instagram story.
02:01 - 02:04
My call to action as you can see here.
02:05 - 02:08
Um it says boycott Seaworld SAn Diego, which is specifically
02:09 - 02:10
where the scale of Maya was.
02:10 - 02:12
You can see at the bottom of the memory of
02:12 - 02:15
Maya. Um so my call to action here is obviously
02:15 - 02:19
to boycott these um you know, institutions, these organizations that
02:19 - 02:24
are perpetrating this violence against animals and this neglect and
02:24 - 02:26
mistreatment. Um as you can kind of see from the
02:26 - 02:29
illustration in the middle, you know, the whales being pulled
02:30 - 02:32
down by the weight because it can't live its life.
02:32 - 02:36
You see the flopped over fin just um, you know,
02:36 - 02:39
a visual for people to see that um boycotting things
02:40 - 02:43
like Seaworld SAn Diego is um you know, taking a
02:43 - 02:45
stand and showing that we don't support this kind of
02:45 - 02:48
thing. So that is why I chose to these.
02:48 - 02:48
Thank you.
