  1. Okay. Huckleberry Thin by Mark Twain, his novel about a
  2. young boy in the antebellum time period going on an
  3. adventure to escape his hometown and helping escaped slave to
  4. reach freedom.
  5. Throughout the novel, Huckleberry Finn goes on a moral journey
  6. as well as a physical one.
  7. Throughout this journey, various different characters in various different experiences
  8. that helped him to develop his moral character.
  9. Two characters that play a major role in Huck's moral
  10. development are the Duke of the Dolphins.
  11. The Duke and the Dolphin Dolphin are two con men
  12. who go around the river that Huck travels up and
  13. down with Jim, his escaped slave, and play Collins on
  14. the different river communities.
  15. However, these river communities as they play cons on them,
  16. Huck included, who finds comic relief and actively participates in
  17. them show themselves to be liars, manipulators, hypocrites and murders.
  18. In one case.
  19. Therefore, when Hawk finds this comedic relief and place the
  20. cons as well as Duke of the Dolphin, he doesn't
  21. find that it's wrong because these people are criminals or
  22. bad people or in the eyes of society.
  23. However, at one point that you can the dolphin begin
  24. to play a con on a group of girls called
  25. the Wilkes Sisters.
  26. The world Sisters, unlike the different river communities, show themselves
  27. to be better people.
  28. And so Huck treats the con.
  29. The Duke and the dolphin fall in the Lok Sisters
  30. differently because the girls were good people compared to the
  31. previous river communities.
  32. And they blindly believe in the Duke of Dolphin.
  33. Huck shows that he believes what the Duke and the
  34. doffing are doing was wrong from the beginning because of
  35. how they treat the Wilkes Girls.
  36. It was enough to make a body ashamed of the
  37. human race.
  38. When the Duke and Dauphin first begin to pull the
  39. con on the world Sisters, this is what Huck says.
  40. It demonstrates Huck's disgust with the Duke and the dog.
  41. He knows what they're doing from the beginning, is wrong
  42. and tells the reader so even more so, he says
  43. that he's ashamed of how they're acting.
  44. We know from previous chapter that Huck doesn't have much
  45. shame. He shows himself to be a troublemaker, and he
  46. actively helps the conmen.
  47. He doesn't have a firm sense of justice, so when
  48. Twain uses the phrase shamed, it emphasizes, there truly despicable
  49. actions. I'll have that money for them or bust.
  50. When the Duke of the Dolphin steal the Wilkes Sisters
  51. money, Huck realizes how wrong this is.
  52. He then says that he is going to steal back
  53. the money for the world sisters, and then he can
  54. feel that he has morally help wth.
  55. Um, and his sense of justice can be quote.
  56. Huck shows himself constantly changing and participating, um, in the
  57. Duke and the Dolphins.
  58. Cons. But he also shows himself to be helping cause
  59. trouble, but he has changed to help the girls.
  60. He recognizes that they're different from the other people he
  61. has caused trouble with, or he's helped the Duke and
  62. Dolphin play these columns on, and they haven't done anything
  63. wrong. Thio Anyone, unlike the river communities where they show
  64. themselves to be hypocrites, the wolves girls aren't like this.
  65. There truly seem to be good people.
  66. The world girls air different from the hypocritical river communities
  67. in previous chapters who have been shown as corrupt and
  68. selfish. Invest for me and my sister is any way
  69. you want to.
  70. And don't give us no receipt for it.
  71. The doctor, a close friend of the Wilkes Girls deceased
  72. father, who the Duke in the Dolphin are pretending to
  73. be. The brothers of says not to trust the Duke
  74. and the Dolphin that these aren't there really brothers.
  75. And instead of believing this man, they decided to trust
  76. the Dukedom dolphin.
  77. And Mary Jane, one of the world's sisters, says to
  78. invest the money for the girls.
  79. They trust him completely.
  80. Mary Jane has blind and misplaced trust in the Duke
  81. and the Dolphin.
  82. This contrast the river community, where they took advantage of
  83. other people's trust to make them look like a fool.
  84. Huck Subcontract fully recognizes this, and he feels more guilty
  85. than he did before.
  86. When describing Mary Jane, Huck says she was most awful
  87. beautiful in her face, and her eyes were all lit
  88. up glory.
  89. In previous descriptions of the river community characters, they were
  90. described with negative features or have described them as unattractive
  91. or not outright saying unattractive.
  92. But we, as the reader can infer that they are
  93. unattractive. However, he described Mary Jane as beautiful and glowing.
  94. This immediately contrast the previous description, and so it contrasts
  95. that they might have different personality traits as well when
  96. we can recognize that they're opposites of one another, that
  97. the description of the two people are opposites, we can
  98. recognize that their personalities are probably going to be opposite
  99. as well.
  100. Twain purposely draws attention to the description of marriage ing
  101. so that the reader will infer that the descriptions of
  102. their personalities, as well as the description of them physically,
  103. are opposites.
  104. Huck changes throughout the novel to become a better person
  105. and grow more mature.
  106. Huck showed moral growth from how he recognizes what the
  107. Duke and often are doing it in the beginning.
  108. And it's not a comedic affair anymore.
  109. He realizes that what they're doing to the world sisters
  110. is playing wrong.
  111. The world sisters haven't done anything unlike the previous river
  112. communities, and he recognizes that immediately and states has discussed
  113. with them.
  114. Huck also shows growth when he recognizes that the world's
  115. girls do not have any trouble.
  116. Unlike the communities that were shown to be hypocrites, wires
  117. murders. When he realizes that the world's girls don't deserve
  118. any trouble, it shows that he can recognize that some
  119. people are good people and not just not everyone is
  120. bad and deserves all these terrible things upon them.
  121. He can recognize good people from bad people.
  122. From finally, in the end, Hawk has changed to recognize
  123. that treating those who have done nothing wrong is despicable.
  124. And the Duke and the dolphins are terrible people, not
  125. the comedians he originally painted.
