00:01 - 00:02
Hello there.
00:02 - 00:04
My name is Ashley Sullivan and I am doing
00:04 - 00:08
my leadership analysis project on President Donald Trump.
00:08 - 00:10
Before I get started,
00:10 - 00:16
I want to make it clear that I felt like when going into the lap assignments
00:17 - 00:21
that Donald Trump would be great for me as I felt like I would be able to give a
00:21 - 00:26
biased analysis on him and his leadership as I
00:26 - 00:30
don't belong to the Republican Party or Democratic Party.
00:30 - 00:35
And I don't really have any feeling towards him whether negative or positive.
00:36 - 00:39
So let's go ahead and get started.
00:45 - 00:49
So the type of followers that Trump has in
00:49 - 00:52
my opinion would fall under the Kelly typology.
00:52 - 00:55
They are conformist, they're passive pragmatic.
00:56 - 01:00
I would say that they're conformist as they tend to just kind of go
01:00 - 01:05
off of anything that he says a lot of them also fall into a
01:05 - 01:09
group called the Q Anons, which is a
01:10 - 01:10
um
01:11 - 01:15
very liberal excited
01:15 - 01:17
conspiracy theorist group.
01:18 - 01:23
And then I would say passive as a lot of them turn the other way when
01:23 - 01:26
there have been some very scrutinizing things that
01:26 - 01:31
have been said or that Donald Trump has possessed
01:31 - 01:32
um
01:34 - 01:36
Trump and his followers many of Trump's
01:36 - 01:40
followers play unproductive or even harmful roles.
01:40 - 01:43
Um While following him, Lippman Bloomin
01:43 - 01:45
sought to find understanding
01:45 - 01:49
in how or why someone might follow a bad leader.
01:49 - 01:54
Her thesis is that unhealthy f followership occurs as a result of
01:54 - 01:59
people's need to find safety so unique and be included in community.
01:59 - 02:00
I feel like
02:01 - 02:07
a lot of Trump's followers, obviously, he was a leader in our country.
02:07 - 02:10
He, he quite literally led our nation.
02:10 - 02:16
And so that put people in a position of needing him to protect them,
02:16 - 02:19
especially with things that happened during his presidency,
02:19 - 02:22
which we will get into later with COVID and things like that
02:25 - 02:29
when trying to decide whether Donald Trump was ethical or unethical.
02:29 - 02:36
Um My opinion, I went off of North House's opinion of what makes an ethical leader,
02:36 - 02:40
um which would be honesty, care for other respectful of others,
02:40 - 02:44
dignity and someone who behaves in their personal life as ethical or moral.
02:44 - 02:49
And I would have to say personally that Donald Trump is not an ethical leader,
02:49 - 02:51
in my opinion, going based off of that,
02:54 - 02:59
some examples of unethical leadership that Trump
02:59 - 03:03
displayed would be the inciting of insurrection,
03:03 - 03:08
um vulgar things that he had said about women that had came out his boy mentality.
03:08 - 03:11
And these are just a few examples.
03:12 - 03:14
So what makes an ethical leader?
03:14 - 03:19
Um To me, it's someone who is a role model. It's someone who is honest
03:19 - 03:22
and puts the needs of others before his or herself.
03:22 - 03:26
Um I think that in presidency especially
03:27 - 03:29
that is a role that should be taken,
03:29 - 03:35
taken very seriously where you put the lives of the Americans before yourself.
03:35 - 03:39
And I feel like a lot of his tactics and the things that he said and
03:39 - 03:43
um the things that he would post on his Twitter account, for example,
03:44 - 03:47
were not for the betterment of our country
03:47 - 03:50
or the betterment of the people in America,
03:50 - 03:53
but they were to stroke his own ego.
03:53 - 03:59
Um I went ahead and added the toxic triangle, um destructive leaders, charisma,
03:59 - 04:03
personalized power, narcissism, negative life themed and uh
04:03 - 04:06
IP ideology of hate.
04:07 - 04:11
Next, we have susceptible followers, um conformers,
04:11 - 04:17
unmet needs um low core self evaluations, low maturity,
04:18 - 04:23
utter ambition, similar worldview and bad values. I mean,
04:24 - 04:24
it
04:24 - 04:26
is very clear
04:27 - 04:28
with
04:28 - 04:32
just the susceptible followers that were, I mean, it really does show
04:33 - 04:37
um Trump supporters, not all of them obviously.
04:37 - 04:43
Um But for the most part, and then we have um conducive environment, instability,
04:43 - 04:46
perceived threat, cultural values,
04:46 - 04:50
um lack of checks and balances and ineffective institutions.
04:51 - 04:53
Once again, perceived threat.
04:53 - 04:58
Um And instability is a great example of the presidency that we or
04:59 - 05:02
I'm so I'm so sorry.
05:02 - 05:08
Um not the presidency but the administration when Trump was in office.
05:12 - 05:17
So now we get into Trump's response to COVID-19. Um Just a few examples.
05:17 - 05:21
Once again, he downplayed Coronavirus as the typical flu.
05:22 - 05:25
He blamed the Obama administration as to why
05:25 - 05:29
things didn't things take such a turn so quickly
05:29 - 05:33
and assured Americans not going back to work while infected was fine.
05:33 - 05:35
Um And because of this, I mean,
05:35 - 05:40
there was thousands of deaths that took place under his leadership.
05:41 - 05:43
The issue with Trump's response to COVID.
05:43 - 05:47
I feel like while leaders have an obligation to take threats seriously,
05:47 - 05:48
leaders of the nation when it is
05:49 - 05:52
a direct national threat is especially important.
05:52 - 05:53
Unfortunately,
05:53 - 05:58
I feel as though Donald Trump's response came from a place of narcissism and ego.
05:58 - 06:00
The two cannot coincide with good leadership.
06:01 - 06:04
Hundreds of thousands of Americans died and had he
06:04 - 06:06
led the charge of taking it more seriously.
06:06 - 06:10
Maybe many may still be alive.
06:10 - 06:14
I feel like what happens in leadership obviously rolls down to
06:14 - 06:15
those below.
06:16 - 06:18
And so when the leader is not
06:19 - 06:23
taking things seriously, is not taking charge and saying, ok,
06:23 - 06:25
get vaccinated and all of these things
06:26 - 06:29
naturally, neither will his followers
06:31 - 06:32
overall.
06:32 - 06:36
I think that it is clear that while Donald Trump may be business,
06:36 - 06:40
savvy and rich and a self proclaimed family man,
06:40 - 06:42
he is not the greatest leader and was not the greatest
06:42 - 06:44
um leader for our nation.
06:45 - 06:50
I truly tried to come into this very biased and open minded.
06:50 - 06:56
But as I went through each of the questions, it was just staggering at how
06:56 - 06:58
clear it was
06:59 - 07:01
that he was not the the best leader
