00:01 - 00:01
Hello, everyone.
00:01 - 00:03
Welcome to Wednesday's Assembly.
00:03 - 00:05
You can see just under my face there.
00:05 - 00:07
I've written well being Wednesday.
00:08 - 00:12
So today's assembly is all about your well being.
00:13 - 00:15
We know well being is one of our school values
00:16 - 00:18
on. This follows on a little bit from our work
00:19 - 00:23
of yesterday thinking about love, but also builds on further
00:23 - 00:26
from our anti bullying week work, and I will explain
00:27 - 00:29
a little bit more about that at the end.
00:31 - 00:34
First of all, though, I'd like to share one of
00:34 - 00:35
my favorite stories.
00:35 - 00:38
I tell this story every year, and I have not
00:38 - 00:39
used it yet.
00:39 - 00:39
This year.
00:40 - 00:43
So many of you will be familiar with this story,
00:44 - 00:47
the huge bag of worries, and you will recognize Jenny
00:47 - 00:50
there with her huge bag on a LH.
00:51 - 00:55
These little characters here that are alehouse er worries that
00:55 - 00:56
she carries around with her.
00:57 - 01:00
Okay, The reason I want to tell you this story
01:00 - 01:02
is to remind you that actually, if you are worried
01:03 - 01:06
about something or you might be worried about friend or
01:06 - 01:09
a family member by telling an adult who cares about
01:09 - 01:11
use, it could be an adult at home or an
01:11 - 01:12
adult in school.
01:12 - 01:16
We will help you to solve those problems or those
01:16 - 01:17
worries. Okay, sake.
01:18 - 01:21
First off, we can see Jenny sat there on her
01:21 - 01:24
bed with her dog loft Us.
01:24 - 01:26
Okay, generally, Jenny is really happy.
01:26 - 01:28
She lives with Loft us on.
01:28 - 01:30
She lives with her mom and dad.
01:31 - 01:32
So Jenny's normally happy.
01:33 - 01:36
But recently she's been getting gloomier and gloomier.
01:38 - 01:40
It says it wasn't just one thing.
01:40 - 01:41
It was everything.
01:42 - 01:42
She was worried.
01:43 - 01:44
She was getting too fat.
01:45 - 01:47
She worried that Loftus had fleas on that.
01:48 - 01:49
Her best friend was going away.
01:50 - 01:54
She worried about getting bad marks of school, and she
01:54 - 01:57
thought she heard people whispering about her on the playground.
01:58 - 02:00
She worried about her mum and dad if they had
02:00 - 02:01
an argument.
02:01 - 02:06
And she even worried about wars on bombs, you can
02:06 - 02:06
see there.
02:08 - 02:14
And then one day she woke up to find a
02:15 - 02:17
huge bag of worries.
02:18 - 02:21
So all her different worries were there In one big
02:22 - 02:25
bag at the bottom of her bed, the back followed
02:26 - 02:31
her everywhere to school, to swimming to the toilet.
02:32 - 02:37
Andi even stuck by her when she was watching the
02:37 - 02:41
television, okay, She got all these worries inside her.
02:42 - 02:42
That she wasn't sharing.
02:43 - 02:46
So that bag of worries just didn't go away.
02:47 - 02:48
So she tried some things.
02:50 - 02:51
She tried ignoring it.
02:52 - 02:53
That didn't work.
02:54 - 02:55
She tried throwing it away.
02:57 - 02:58
But the worries always came back.
03:00 - 03:01
She tried toe lock it out.
03:03 - 03:05
But when she got back to her bedroom, the worries
03:06 - 03:07
were there, waiting for her.
03:09 - 03:13
It was like, Ah, horrible shadow that she couldn't get
03:13 - 03:13
rid off.
03:14 - 03:15
What could she do?
03:17 - 03:21
I wonder maybe your teacher will pause this recording right
03:21 - 03:24
now. Maybe you could come up with some suggestions Virginia's
03:24 - 03:27
to what she could do to help get rid of
03:27 - 03:27
those worries.
03:30 - 03:33
Okay, well, this is what Jenny did.
03:34 - 03:38
You could say that she asked her brother for help,
03:39 - 03:41
but he was always too busy with his computer game
03:41 - 03:44
on. All he said was I don't know what you're
03:44 - 03:44
talking about.
03:45 - 03:45
I don't have any worries.
03:47 - 03:50
And after that, she didn't feel like asking anybody else
03:50 - 03:51
because she'd only feel stupid.
03:53 - 03:56
Mom would probably say you've got no worries that I
03:56 - 03:58
can see you're a lucky girl.
03:58 - 03:59
You've got your health, your friends, your family.
04:00 - 04:00
What more do you want?
04:03 - 04:08
So she decided not to tell her that could be
04:08 - 04:09
a problem, can't it?
04:09 - 04:12
Sometimes I know sometimes when I'm worried about something come.
04:12 - 04:16
I'm worried about it sounding silly, Um, or that people
04:17 - 04:18
won't think it's a really worry.
04:19 - 04:20
So that's that's a tricky thing.
04:20 - 04:21
Toe overcome, isn't it?
04:22 - 04:27
Oh, Dad might know what to Dio, but then she
04:27 - 04:31
thought again, No, Dad had enough worries of his own.
04:31 - 04:32
She couldn't ask him.
04:33 - 04:38
And every day things got worse on the bag of
04:38 - 04:41
worries got bigger and bigger on DSS.
04:42 - 04:43
Stronger and stronger.
04:46 - 04:49
She couldn't sleep because the bag of worries kept tossing
04:50 - 04:53
and turning all night long beside her.
04:54 - 04:58
To make matters even worse, the bag dragged around her
04:59 - 05:01
my feet so much when she was walking to school
05:02 - 05:04
that she was late and then her teacher was crossed
05:05 - 05:05
with her.
05:06 - 05:09
Jenny couldn't tell her what had happened on anyway.
05:10 - 05:13
She knew she would say, You've got too many worries
05:13 - 05:13
in future.
05:14 - 05:16
Leave that Baggett home.
05:19 - 05:20
Jenny told her best friend about the bag.
05:21 - 05:23
She suggested that Jenny locked it up in a cupboard
05:24 - 05:25
and tried not to think about it.
05:27 - 05:28
Yeah, that's what I'll do, she said.
05:29 - 05:33
But look, that just didn't work.
05:36 - 05:39
Okay, so Jenny's tried some things, so I wonder what's
05:39 - 05:40
going to happen next.
05:42 - 05:44
Even Loftis couldn't help.
05:44 - 05:46
He tried his best.
05:46 - 05:48
He barked at the bag like mad.
05:49 - 05:50
But the back just stood its ground.
05:53 - 05:56
One morning, Jenny woke up.
05:56 - 05:59
She got dressed and she walked down the road.
06:00 - 06:00
She'd had enough.
06:01 - 06:04
The tears started rolling down her cheeks.
06:04 - 06:07
She sat on a garden wall and put her head
06:07 - 06:07
in her hands.
06:08 - 06:11
She thought she would have to live with this bag
06:12 - 06:20
forever. Then she heard a voice Onda, looking up.
06:20 - 06:23
She saw the kindly face of the old lady who
06:23 - 06:23
lived next door.
06:24 - 06:29
Goodness, said the lady, What a huge bag of worries
06:30 - 06:30
you have here.
06:32 - 06:35
Through her tears, Jenny explained how it had followed her
06:35 - 06:36
for weeks on.
06:36 - 06:39
It just kept getting bigger and bigger, and it wouldn't
06:39 - 06:40
go away.
06:41 - 06:46
Now let's open it up and see what's inside, said
06:46 - 06:49
the old lady Get.
06:52 - 06:54
But Jenny said she couldn't if she opened the bag,
06:55 - 06:56
the worries might jump act.
06:56 - 06:59
And who knew what might happen then, huh?
07:00 - 07:02
Nonsense, said the old lady.
07:02 - 07:05
There's nothing A worry hates more than being seen.
07:06 - 07:11
If you have any worries, however small the secret is
07:11 - 07:14
to let them out slowly, one by one, and show
07:15 - 07:16
them to someone else.
07:16 - 07:18
And soon they'll go away.
07:20 - 07:21
So slowly and carefully.
07:23 - 07:24
Jenny opened up the bag.
07:26 - 07:29
Theo, Old lady sorted the worries into groups.
07:30 - 07:35
Jenny was astonished to see how small they looked out
07:35 - 07:37
in the open on on their own.
07:39 - 07:44
Half the worries disappeared because lots of worries just hate
07:44 - 07:44
the daylight.
07:46 - 07:48
As for the rest, the old lady put some in
07:48 - 07:50
her shopping basket for her to deal with.
07:51 - 07:54
So she sent packing because they were worries that belonged
07:54 - 07:55
to other people.
07:56 - 07:59
You can see those were moms and dads worries, sir.
08:00 - 08:05
She blew a kiss to On some, she said, were
08:05 - 08:09
worries that everybody had even Jenny's family, her friends on
08:09 - 08:11
Dhe. Her teacher would have those worries, too.
08:14 - 08:20
And as for the back and you see, she's thrown
08:20 - 08:24
the bag away so you can see there with the
08:25 - 08:25
old ladies help.
08:26 - 08:30
Jenny was able to break down that huge bag of
08:30 - 08:32
worries on dhe sort through them on.
08:33 - 08:33
We all have worries.
08:34 - 08:35
I've already said.
08:35 - 08:37
We all worry about things and it stays in the
08:37 - 08:40
story. We all worry about things, but that the way
08:40 - 08:42
to deal with any worries that we have is to
08:43 - 08:46
talk about them because actually sharing them.
08:46 - 08:50
Sometimes they don't see Seimas bad, but also, people are
08:51 - 08:51
able to help you.
08:53 - 08:56
Okay, this brings me on to the last thing I
08:56 - 08:57
wanted to talk to you about today.
08:57 - 08:58
You can see there at the bottom.
08:58 - 09:00
It says, well being survey altogether.
09:01 - 09:05
So last week, in anti bullying week, we learn Maura
09:05 - 09:06
about bullying.
09:07 - 09:10
What bullying is bullying is a group behavior on.
09:10 - 09:14
We made our pledges, um, to be an anti bullying
09:14 - 09:16
schools were united against bullying.
09:17 - 09:21
Now we are We have joined part of program called
09:21 - 09:26
altogether which links directly Thio, the national anti bullying alliance
09:27 - 09:28
on dhe.
09:28 - 09:30
That was the work that we did last week for
09:30 - 09:32
anti bullying week this week.
09:33 - 09:36
Now that we've started on that, every child in the
09:36 - 09:39
school is going to fill in one of thes questionnaires.
09:40 - 09:43
Okay, Says well being questionnaire for pupils and you can
09:43 - 09:47
see there it stays altogether united against bullying.
09:48 - 09:50
Now it looks if I hold this up, it looks
09:51 - 09:54
like there is absolutely loads to do.
09:55 - 09:59
Okay, on there is, but it'll tick things So the
09:59 - 10:01
first one says I like going to school.
10:02 - 10:04
Never a little a lot.
10:05 - 10:10
Always, Uh, I am hit, pushed or kicked by other
10:10 - 10:12
pupils. Never a little.
10:12 - 10:13
A lot.
10:13 - 10:17
Always. So you've got lots of statements like that to
10:17 - 10:21
work through and tick Which one is honest and true
10:21 - 10:21
for you?
10:22 - 10:26
Okay. Now on the back, this the box at the
10:26 - 10:27
back talks about your feelings.
10:28 - 10:30
Okay, so it saves things like I feel lonely.
10:31 - 10:33
Um, I cry.
10:34 - 10:34
I am unhappy.
10:35 - 10:38
And it says never, Sometimes, always.
10:40 - 10:41
So what I want you to do.
10:42 - 10:45
These surveys are anonymous, okay?
10:45 - 10:47
Means you don't write your name on it.
10:48 - 10:51
You're going to fill them out in class on your
10:51 - 10:52
teacher will hand them back to me.
10:53 - 10:56
So I will know which class it's come from.
10:56 - 10:58
But I won't know which person it's come from.
11:00 - 11:03
What I'm going to do with these surveys, then part
11:04 - 11:08
of our altogether is that I've started on action plan
11:08 - 11:10
as to what we do to become an altogether school
11:11 - 11:13
to prevent bullying in out school.
11:14 - 11:17
Okay, on this is what we call is our baseline
11:18 - 11:21
assessment. So we've done this so I can see how
11:21 - 11:23
everybody is thinking and feeling now on.
11:24 - 11:26
Then we will do some work over the next few
11:26 - 11:27
months on.
11:27 - 11:30
Then you will do this survey again to see if
11:30 - 11:31
anything has changed.
11:32 - 11:34
Okay, so it's anonymous.
11:35 - 11:37
So no names on it on you.
11:37 - 11:37
Just ticket.
11:38 - 11:40
What is honest and true for you now.
11:41 - 11:43
Okay. So not thinking about what?
11:43 - 11:46
What has happened last academic year?
11:46 - 11:49
We're thinking about now since we've been back in school
11:49 - 11:50
since September.
11:51 - 11:52
Okay, right.
11:53 - 11:54
Okay. I'm not going to say a prayer.
11:55 - 11:56
The in it for the end of today's assembly.
11:57 - 12:00
I'd like you to have some space and time to
12:00 - 12:02
just close your eyes on Dhe.
12:02 - 12:09
Think I'd like you to think about any worries you
12:09 - 12:09
might have?
12:13 - 12:15
I'd like you to think about the people that you're
12:15 - 12:17
able to share those worries with.
12:18 - 12:22
Yeah, I'd also like you to think about people in
12:22 - 12:25
your life that make you happy that you can laugh
12:25 - 12:26
and smile with that.
12:27 - 12:29
Help Thio make those worries disappeared.
12:31 - 12:32
Okay. Thank you for listening.
12:33 - 12:37
Everyone. Children, I've said the teachers have until the end
12:37 - 12:39
of Friday to give you some time to get those
12:39 - 12:40
surveys done.
12:41 - 12:42
Okay. Thank you very much.
12:42 - 12:43
And Bob by Finnair
