00:01 - 00:06
Hi. Welcome to my reflective video for enhancing your business mine.
00:06 - 00:10
My name is Jayden Watson, and let's get started.
00:13 - 00:15
So throughout this reflective video,
00:15 - 00:20
we will have a look at enhancing your business mind as a unit,
00:21 - 00:24
we will reflect on the two employability tools that
00:24 - 00:27
we did over the course of the semester.
00:27 - 00:30
We'll also take a look at my university life throughout a
00:30 - 00:34
whole where it started and where it's going to end.
00:34 - 00:41
And lastly, here we will have a look at my career where I have been,
00:41 - 00:46
where I'm planning to go and you know what the future might entail for me.
00:49 - 00:55
So you know, when you have a unit and you're just not really into it,
00:55 - 01:00
you can tell the lecturers just recycled slides from many years ago.
01:00 - 01:03
None of the statistics are up to date.
01:03 - 01:03
Well,
01:03 - 01:07
what I have done over the last semester is I
01:07 - 01:10
have been a part of enhancing your business mind.
01:10 - 01:17
This unit has been incredibly engaging. It has provided me with so many skills.
01:17 - 01:22
It has allowed me to interact with all the peers in the class,
01:22 - 01:26
and it's also taught me some pretty exciting skills,
01:26 - 01:31
such as being able to reflect on myself and learn the Gotti pitch.
01:31 - 01:34
As you can tell, that was the Gotti pitch, and
01:34 - 01:38
it's been one of the most interesting, uh,
01:38 - 01:41
topics that we learned throughout the semester.
01:41 - 01:45
It's something that I can see myself using in my future career,
01:45 - 01:49
whether that's being stuck in an elevator with a CEO or
01:49 - 01:53
just trying to relay ideas to some of my colleagues.
01:53 - 01:59
Another thing that I found really useful throughout that this unit is the seminars.
02:00 - 02:05
The seminars will run each week, and it just allowed a whole lot of engagement.
02:06 - 02:08
So all the different things that we learned all
02:08 - 02:11
the different activities that we were engaged in,
02:11 - 02:17
they weren't the typical business unit that I've come to know throughout my course.
02:18 - 02:22
There's been a lot of reflection which, personally,
02:22 - 02:24
I haven't really been doing a lot of in my life.
02:24 - 02:29
So it was really useful to look back inward and
02:29 - 02:32
reflect on things that I might be able to do better
02:32 - 02:37
and even things that I'm doing well, you know, so I can learn about myself,
02:37 - 02:40
and it's put me in good stead for the future.
02:40 - 02:41
I feel
02:43 - 02:46
next we'll be looking at the employability tool.
02:46 - 02:52
So we did one at the beginning of the semester. That is the first one just here.
02:52 - 02:56
And the second one was done at the end of the semester just down here.
02:57 - 02:58
So comparing the two,
02:58 - 03:05
I had a bit of a shift towards occupational literacy as well as the ethnical, uh,
03:05 - 03:11
cultural and social literacy and also a shift towards emotional literacy.
03:11 - 03:17
My thoughts on this is that I've become a little bit better at reading people.
03:17 - 03:23
This may come from a little bit of sales that I did and I was doing door to door sales,
03:23 - 03:25
and I had to be able to read the customer interaction.
03:26 - 03:27
Um,
03:27 - 03:30
I've also got a little bit more of a defined occupational
03:30 - 03:35
path that might be influencing some of the occupational literacy.
03:35 - 03:38
Maybe even the emotional electricity there
03:38 - 03:40
and my ethics have improved,
03:41 - 03:41
which
03:42 - 03:46
I feel like I might just come from maturing a little bit, realising,
03:46 - 03:50
you know where I want to be in life, the type of person that I want to be.
03:50 - 03:54
All these things have led to that employability tool changing a little bit,
03:54 - 03:57
which honestly, I'm very happy with.
03:58 - 04:05
So next here we have my uni life. It's been an incredibly long journey.
04:05 - 04:11
I started back in 2016. I was on a physiotherapy sort. Of course,
04:12 - 04:16
I thought coming out of school that, you know, my interest in sport.
04:16 - 04:20
I was interested in human biology and, you know,
04:20 - 04:24
just marrying those two together might be where I wanted to be in the future.
04:25 - 04:29
But I soon found out that uni wasn't for me at that stage.
04:29 - 04:35
I wasn't really ready personally, so I needed to take a bit of a break from the study.
04:35 - 04:38
I felt like I needed to do some work.
04:38 - 04:43
I needed to travel a little bit, just, you know, have a little break from study.
04:43 - 04:48
I actually went to China in that break, and I was teaching English,
04:48 - 04:54
which led me to try a teaching degree in primary education in 2018.
04:54 - 05:00
Did that for about a year and a half. Realised also that that's not what I wanted to do.
05:01 - 05:07
Uh, so accompanying whilst I was working in the bars and in cafes,
05:07 - 05:10
I found a passion for managing people.
05:10 - 05:16
I like to try and solve problems. I like to try and put people in the right places.
05:16 - 05:21
So I figured that I might give a commerce degree ago, um,
05:21 - 05:24
majoring in management or human resources.
05:24 - 05:28
And luckily enough, I found my passion there, and
05:29 - 05:32
here we are. Now we're at the end of it, and I'm feeling really positive.
05:32 - 05:34
I've had a great time so far.
05:35 - 05:39
Studying fully online has been a little bit tough, but, you know,
05:39 - 05:44
I live with a little bit too far away, so travel to uni was impossible for me.
05:44 - 05:47
But I've made it through and learned a
05:47 - 05:50
lot along the way about coursework about myself,
05:50 - 05:53
and I feel like it's been very rewarding.
05:55 - 05:58
So talking about my career so far
05:59 - 06:03
it has had a lot of twists and turns, as you can probably tell from the uni slide.
06:03 - 06:08
Before I originally thought that I was going to be a really good teacher,
06:08 - 06:15
I thought kids, um, might be where I could mould their minds.
06:15 - 06:18
I might be able to impart some of my knowledge.
06:18 - 06:24
I also that was part of the person personable sort of side of things where
06:24 - 06:28
I wanted to engage with people rather than just sitting at a desk all day.
06:29 - 06:34
But, you know, things change and I then moved on to
06:35 - 06:38
thinking about. I might want to own a bar or a cafe one day.
06:38 - 06:42
I might want to try and manage people in that scenario,
06:42 - 06:47
but I got really sick and tired of dealing with drunk people.
06:47 - 06:53
Mainly, um, so I recently got out of that sort of line of work.
06:54 - 06:56
Unfortunately, it was because of Covid.
06:56 - 07:00
But you know, things happen for a reason. And
07:00 - 07:06
now my focus has really shifted towards the human resources side of things and,
07:06 - 07:08
more specifically, the change management.
07:08 - 07:14
I really enjoy what I really enjoyed the organisational behaviour
07:14 - 07:18
and cultural learning throughout the units that I've done.
07:19 - 07:21
I feel like I might be able to impart
07:21 - 07:25
some knowledge on people in organisations that are going
07:25 - 07:28
through major changes might be able to come up
07:28 - 07:30
with plans about how to deal with these things.
07:31 - 07:35
Um, and that's really something that I'm striving towards for now.
07:36 - 07:37
Currently,
07:37 - 07:44
I'm doing a bit of work in the disability employment sector so that involves,
07:45 - 07:45
you know,
07:45 - 07:50
working with people with disabilities and trying to get them into open employment,
07:50 - 07:53
trying to make sure that they're building capacity to
07:53 - 07:56
find job as well as keeping a job,
07:56 - 07:58
you know, just like anyone else
07:59 - 08:04
reflecting on my odyssey plan, we did one in a unit.
08:04 - 08:07
I couldn't find it, But it was about a year ago
08:08 - 08:11
and I was still on the train of thought that I wanted to own a bar.
08:11 - 08:15
But now we just did one in the last week of semester,
08:15 - 08:21
and I realised that my focus is really in the human resources side of things.
08:21 - 08:26
I think I'm happy to work for someone rather than being my own boss.
08:26 - 08:32
Might look at maybe a bit of freelance work with the change management, but also,
08:32 - 08:35
I believe there is lots of contracts out there for that kind of stuff.
08:35 - 08:39
So it has changed quite a lot, even in, you know,
08:39 - 08:42
in the space of a year which I find
08:42 - 08:45
to be quite interesting looking back and reflecting.
08:47 - 08:52
So to conclude, we have had a look at the employability tool there.
08:52 - 08:54
We ran through the one that we did at the start of
08:54 - 08:57
the semester and compared it to the last one that we did.
08:58 - 09:02
We reflected on enhancing your business mind as a unit,
09:02 - 09:07
something that I've really enjoyed towards the last bit of my uni degree.
09:07 - 09:11
We reflected on my time at university and it's
09:11 - 09:15
been a very long journey and I'm very happy to
09:15 - 09:18
be towards the end of it now in something
09:18 - 09:21
that I'm passionate about and something that I enjoy.
09:22 - 09:27
And we also had a look at my career and what the future may hold for myself.
09:28 - 09:31
It's been an absolute pleasure, and I wish you all the best, thank you.
