00:01 - 00:04
Hey guys dr Man Pearson Hoda here,
00:04 - 00:08
I'm at metro town and in North Surrey and I wanted to make one of these videos to
00:08 - 00:11
help you guys help our patients and figuring out
00:11 - 00:13
if chiropractic is a good fit for them,
00:13 - 00:16
but also for you guys to know what kind of stuff your chiropractic
00:16 - 00:19
division as a whole can offer to you guys and to patients.
00:20 - 00:22
Um So what is chiropractic?
00:22 - 00:26
I feel like sometimes is a little bit hard to answer just because
00:26 - 00:29
there is there can be like a variance and how we all treat.
00:29 - 00:32
But as a generalization chiropractors,
00:32 - 00:36
we are trained as manual therapist to work on anything related to your muscles,
00:36 - 00:40
your joints in any nerve related dysfunctions as well.
00:40 - 00:45
So some examples of this can be whiplash from a car accident, um concussions,
00:45 - 00:48
from falls, sprains or strains.
00:48 - 00:52
So sprained ankles, sprained knees, um You know, wrist carpal tunnel,
00:52 - 00:56
so numbness and tingling in the hands, sciatic nerve issues,
00:56 - 00:58
numbness and tingling down the legs.
00:58 - 00:58
Um
00:59 - 01:00
We covered a lot of ground basically.
01:00 - 01:03
We are trained in treating anything from head to toe
01:03 - 01:07
and if you can get your hands on that area,
01:07 - 01:07
like dr
01:08 - 01:13
saying there's a good chance that we can actually treat it, assess it and treat it.
01:13 - 01:16
So that's a big portion of why somebody
01:16 - 01:18
might want to see a chiropractor is the assessment
01:18 - 01:21
as well and us being able to actually diagnose what the
01:21 - 01:24
issue is before we jump in and start treating it.
01:24 - 01:28
So a first appointment. Um Brand new patient. Brand new injury.
01:28 - 01:30
They're coming in to see a chiropractor.
01:30 - 01:31
There's gonna be quite a bit of an
01:31 - 01:34
emphasis on checking their previous health history,
01:34 - 01:37
making sure they're good candidates for what we have to offer.
01:37 - 01:41
Um And just giving us insight on how we want to treat this individual.
01:41 - 01:44
Um a full assessment of the area of complaints.
01:44 - 01:48
So it's going to assess the joints of that area, the muscles around that area,
01:48 - 01:51
the nerve integrity, making sure that there's no red flags.
01:51 - 01:53
And then treatment is going to be administered and it's usually
01:53 - 01:56
going to be a combination of working on the joints,
01:56 - 02:00
getting those joints moving either with an adjustment which is where the cracks and
02:00 - 02:02
the pops come in or mobilizations which
02:02 - 02:04
are more gentle addressing muscle tightness,
02:04 - 02:09
muscle weakness um As well as giving them something to carry on treatment at home.
02:09 - 02:11
So that might look like stretches,
02:11 - 02:14
it might look like strengthening some form of rehab.
02:14 - 02:19
Um And I think that kind of covers very well how most of the chiropractor's at
02:19 - 02:23
pain Pro how we all like to treat if you have any like specific questions.
02:23 - 02:26
I think it's always good to check in with us because some of us might do a
02:26 - 02:28
little bit of more something or a little bit
02:28 - 02:30
less of something else but as a generalization,
02:30 - 02:33
I think that's a pretty pretty good explanation.
02:34 - 02:39
Um What I think I really wanted to pass on to you guys is that a lot of patients feel
02:39 - 02:44
a lot of apprehension around um chiropractors and chiropractic treatment
02:44 - 02:47
is because the adjustments and the noises that they produce.
02:47 - 02:50
So I think there is a little bit of a stereotype
02:50 - 02:53
or stigma around chiropractic and that that's all we can do.
02:53 - 02:56
So certainly it is an important part of what we
02:56 - 02:58
do and something that we are uniquely trained in,
02:58 - 03:01
but we're also trained in working those areas
03:01 - 03:03
um producing the same results in different ways.
03:03 - 03:08
So if I get a patient who is worried about getting an adjustment to their neck,
03:08 - 03:11
what we end up doing is mobilizations instead.
03:11 - 03:14
So the goal is the same, we're trying to move the joints of that area,
03:14 - 03:18
but we're just doing it in a way that's a little bit more gentle um and maybe
03:18 - 03:21
not going to produce those noises that feel nervous
03:21 - 03:23
so that makes them feel nervous about it.
03:23 - 03:26
Um So if you do get a patient on the phone and uh you
03:26 - 03:29
offer chiropractic to them because you think it might be a good fit.
03:29 - 03:34
Um And they say, well I don't think I want to get adjusted, I don't like those noises,
03:34 - 03:37
I feel like very confidently you can say they can
03:37 - 03:40
treat you without doing that and I think that's really
03:40 - 03:43
important for me to convey because there there's some nervousness
03:43 - 03:46
nervousness around it and I think that's okay too.
03:46 - 03:49
I do find though most patients um they may come
03:49 - 03:51
in like that and then eventually they might kind of warm
03:51 - 03:56
up to it and they might want to try an adjustment and in most cases they seem to love it,
03:56 - 03:58
but in either case it's not something we want to push on them.
03:58 - 04:01
So that's why there's always other options as well.
04:01 - 04:04
And I would encourage you guys if you've never had chiropractic before or
04:04 - 04:07
even if you have um come work with us or fun people,
04:07 - 04:10
I feel like we're the most fun division and um you know,
04:10 - 04:13
just just get to learn how we like to approach it.
04:13 - 04:15
And that way you kind of have a more confident
04:15 - 04:19
understanding of what a patient's experience might be as well.
04:19 - 04:23
And if you guys have any questions I always ask us and uh
04:23 - 04:25
I think that's kind of all I wanted to say.
04:25 - 04:27
I think Tony covered a lot of ground otherwise.
