  1. Good Morning, Trinity. And today is Trinity Together. Assembly.
  2. We're going to be thinking about valuing all God's Children,
  3. how we work together to value all God's Children
  4. and how we love others as we love ourselves.
  5. When I was thinking about this assembly and our trinity together values,
  6. I knew I wanted to talk about being inclusive and accepting.
  7. So today I want to encourage you to think about this and how
  8. we can create more inclusive and
  9. accepting environment where everybody feels valued,
  10. thinking about being inclusive and accepting it.
  11. Maybe think about our new school verse.
  12. Everything we know about God's word is summed up in a single sentence.
  13. Love others as you love yourself,
  14. All right,
  15. I thought about how loving others as we love ourselves
  16. and about how important it is to be accepting ourselves.
  17. So in today's assembly,
  18. I want us to really focus on being inclusive and being accepting,
  19. but really thinking about how we are accepting of ourselves,
  20. because how we feel about ourselves is reflected in the way that we treat others.
  21. We should be proud of ourselves and our differences
  22. and the things that make us who we are.
  23. We can gain strength from those things and accept who we
  24. are and use that strength to support others around us.
  25. It's not always easy to love ourselves.
  26. Accepting all the aspects of ourselves can be really difficult.
  27. I know that I don't always give myself a break,
  28. and sometimes it's easier to think more negatively about yourself and pick
  29. out those things rather than the things that we do well.
  30. And I can really kind of relate to that, really.
  31. But in assembly, I am particular,
  32. wants us to think about maybe how we can be a little bit kinder to ourselves,
  33. accepting ourselves and loving ourselves
  34. as we come to accept all the different aspects of ourselves.
  35. We can start to look out and think about how we can support those around us.
  36. When I was thinking about this idea of being accepting of ourselves,
  37. being kind to ourselves and in turn being
  38. inclusive and accepting of ourselves and others,
  39. I thought about an activist called Munroe Bergdorf.
  40. I'm really impressed by Munroe Bergdorf. I really look up to her.
  41. Actually, I think she's a really
  42. a great example of a person who has,
  43. um, come to accept themselves to look themselves and been on a journey to do that,
  44. which has not always been easy
  45. but has become a great activist in fighting for inclusion and acceptance.
  46. Munroe Bergdorf is an activist, author and model who fights against racism,
  47. transphobia and misogyny, which was a prejudice against women.
  48. She now uses her activism to fight for inclusive representation
  49. and believes that this is because of how she actually came to accept herself.
  50. She sees that how her ex coming to accept herself has become a strength,
  51. and it's given her the strength to fight so hard to advocate for others.
  52. Monroe grew up feeling really different to other people around her,
  53. and she talked a lot about the bullying that she experienced at school.
  54. She says that walking through the corridors every single day at school was hard
  55. because she was getting bullied. So much for coming out as gay. At 14,
  56. she was bullied through her entire school experience,
  57. and she said that people bullied and picked on her made jokes,
  58. leaving her feeling like the things that made her who she was weren't okay.
  59. Even as an adult working as a model and an activist for Trans Rice,
  60. Monroe's even face bullying as an adult,
  61. she stays huge amounts of online abuse and trolling
  62. again, experiencing racism and transphobia
  63. and not being accepted for who she is.
  64. Rose talked an awful lot about how she finds that it's
  65. not always easy to care about herself and love herself.
  66. She says that for a long time she was really self critical.
  67. But since she started giving herself a break and
  68. stop putting pressure on herself to be perfect,
  69. that's when she started to be happy.
  70. She said that it's given her the power
  71. to
  72. really
  73. look after herself and to other people, she says.
  74. The power comes when you stop believing what society tells you about yourself
  75. and when you actually start believing in yourself and what you can do.
  76. Morocco has taken her self acceptance and turned it into
  77. a strength to fight for inclusivity and acceptance Brothers.
  78. I really inspired by the way that she's come to love
  79. herself and accept herself along a really very difficult journey.
  80. She's become a really successful model and an activist,
  81. and she even wrote a book This year
  82. she deals with all sorts of harassment and,
  83. um,
  84. and people not being
  85. inclusive and accepting her of her.
  86. But she deals with it in a really graceful and really warm and really funny way,
  87. which is what I really
  88. I'm really drawn to.
  89. She uses her platform to empower people to address racism and transphobia,
  90. and now sits on the Loreal UK Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board,
  91. where she works with them to help them
  92. become more inclusive in their campaigns and products.
  93. She's also worked with the U. N to campaign to end gender violence.
  94. I've read a number of interviews with Monroe,
  95. and she talks about how it's always important to speak up for what you believe.
  96. It's important to have self love, compassion and then standing for others.
  97. She's taken that self love and that self
  98. compassion that she has for herself and used it
  99. to fight for inclusion and acceptance.
  100. From this,
  101. I hope that you can take a moment to think about the things
  102. that you might beat yourself up over or not completely accepting yourself.
  103. Whether it's not squalling highly on an assessment as you'd like
  104. to have done or an ability in a certain subject,
  105. perhaps it's an aspect of your parents or something that you're interested in,
  106. but you don't think maybe other people will get.
  107. Perhaps you could maybe be a little bit kinder to yourself and
  108. think about how the things that make you who you are,
  109. actually what gives you your strength and power
  110. and what helps you understand yourself and others.
  111. Perhaps you can think about something you've done well recently,
  112. or contribution you made to the school or in a class.
  113. Perhaps you can think about the time when you've been a really good
  114. friend to somebody or help somebody out or been a good ally.
  115. Perhaps you could think about a hobby that you
  116. enjoy and maybe you're not absolutely amazing at,
  117. but you really enjoy.
  118. You get lots of happiness from it.
  119. My hope is that we might be a bit more accepting of ourselves.
  120. We might take that and turn it into our strength and be a bit
  121. and be accepting inclusive of others.
  122. So if I could ask you to bow your heads
  123. for a moment while we have a prayer
  124. of thanks to all God's Children.
  125. Lord God,
  126. we thank you for making making each one of us in your image and likeness
  127. and that we are all your beloved Children.
  128. We pray for the students at Trinity.
  129. We pray for the students who make us smile.
  130. We pray for the students who challenge our way of thinking.
  131. We thank you for loving all God's Children.
  132. Lord,
  133. help us to accept ourselves and those around us
  134. help us to love others as we love ourselves,
  135. our men.
