00:01 - 00:03
Hello, my name is Isabella Bartman.
00:03 - 00:06
And for book circle number one, I will be covering
00:06 - 00:09
chapters 1, 36 of the innovators mindset.
00:10 - 00:14
The image to the side shows innovation in itself.
00:15 - 00:21
It's changing, moving around and having ideas to become successful
00:22 - 00:23
in the outcome that you're wanting to achieve.
00:24 - 00:29
Yeah. In Chapter one, we discussed what innovation is and
00:30 - 00:30
what it isn't.
00:31 - 00:33
When learning about this, we understood that it was key
00:34 - 00:37
to learn how to manage change, whether change in any
00:37 - 00:39
daily task or just change in life.
00:40 - 00:43
Learning how to manage that is key to success.
00:44 - 00:48
We also talked about including innovative leadership.
00:49 - 00:51
So for those people that are in a leadership position,
00:51 - 00:55
learning how to innovate and create others ideas into the
00:55 - 01:00
outcome. We also talked about how understanding our surroundings is
01:00 - 01:05
very important as anything that's going on around you is
01:05 - 01:08
going to affect or impact what you are partaking in
01:08 - 01:08
on the inside.
01:10 - 01:12
We also talked about looking at both sides of possible
01:13 - 01:16
outcomes just because you can be innovative and it's what
01:16 - 01:19
the book is suggesting doing doesn't mean that every innovative
01:20 - 01:21
idea will have a positive outcome.
01:22 - 01:24
You have to weigh the pros and cons of any
01:24 - 01:24
given situation.
01:29 - 01:31
In Chapter two, we talked about the innovators mindset in
01:32 - 01:35
general. This was built upon the foundation of education and
01:36 - 01:39
looking at the history of previous education and how it
01:39 - 01:40
impacted where we are now.
01:41 - 01:45
We also had appealing benefits of innovation because it plays
01:46 - 01:49
with that growth first, fixed mindset and allows creativity to
01:49 - 01:54
grow out of any student or any persons individual mind
01:54 - 01:54
and their ideas.
01:56 - 02:00
We also learned about creating innovative ideas, how it might
02:00 - 02:02
be hard to go outside the box with any idea,
02:03 - 02:05
but that's staying in your comfort zone won't get you
02:05 - 02:10
the ultimate success that you can truly grow and develop
02:10 - 02:16
into. As we climb this ladder, We see that Chapter
02:17 - 02:19
three, we talked about the characteristics of what an innovator's
02:20 - 02:20
mindset is.
02:21 - 02:25
So first we have to understand that technology is a
02:25 - 02:28
big part of having an innovative mindset and that as
02:28 - 02:31
technology is growing and making advancements, our ideas and innovations
02:32 - 02:33
also have to grow and make advancements.
02:35 - 02:38
We also have to understand that sometimes whether it be
02:38 - 02:41
your workplace or school environment, there are constraints and rules
02:42 - 02:42
that you have to follow.
02:43 - 02:46
But learning to blossom and grow outside of those rules
02:46 - 02:49
and constraints while still following them is something that is
02:49 - 02:54
key to providing the entire learning experience to a student.
02:56 - 02:59
There were eight main characteristics of the innovators mindset, learning
02:59 - 03:05
to be empathetic problem finders, risk takers, networked, observant creators,
03:07 - 03:07
resilient and reflective.
03:08 - 03:11
These are all the eight things that make up what
03:12 - 03:12
an innovator is.
03:13 - 03:16
They feel emotions, they can solve problems while taking risks.
03:17 - 03:18
They can network with their environment.
03:19 - 03:21
They can observe what's going on.
03:21 - 03:22
They can create their idea.
03:22 - 03:26
They can be resilient against all of the concerns that
03:26 - 03:28
are coming towards them and then they can reflect on
03:28 - 03:29
how they can grow in the future.
03:33 - 03:39
In Chapter four, we talked about relationships, relationships, relationships, environmental
03:39 - 03:42
changes and things around you are huge into what comes
03:42 - 03:43
into play with the innovators mindset.
03:44 - 03:49
But the importance of relationships is ultimately what has the
03:49 - 03:50
biggest impact.
03:51 - 03:55
Understanding personal interests of your peers around you is key.
03:56 - 03:59
And then using those personal interest in applying them to
03:59 - 04:02
the abilities that they are doing is what allows the
04:02 - 04:05
relationships to build even more and the idea is to
04:05 - 04:07
become flowing at an even faster rate.
04:08 - 04:08
Creating changes.
04:09 - 04:10
Okay, change doesn't have to be bad.
04:11 - 04:13
Change also needs to make sure that there's not procrastination
04:14 - 04:17
like we talked about in Chapter one but creating change
04:17 - 04:21
based on personal interests and abilities is always a key
04:21 - 04:21
to success.
04:25 - 04:25
Mm hmm.
04:26 - 04:29
In Chapter five We talked about learning to lead innovatively,
04:31 - 04:35
which means basically understanding and creating learning environments that promote
04:36 - 04:36
innovative growth.
04:37 - 04:40
Learning how to be present, understanding what areas in your
04:40 - 04:42
life need growth or that you can continue to work
04:43 - 04:47
on and finding that balance between growing and staying, Maintaining
04:47 - 04:50
a positive, innovative leadership is also key.
04:50 - 04:52
Like we talked about in Chapter two, if you are
04:52 - 04:54
going to be an innovative leader, you have to look
04:55 - 04:58
and allow for innovativeness to happen in your classroom with
04:58 - 04:58
your students.
04:59 - 05:05
But Mhm And finally we have to engage versus in
05:05 - 05:08
power is what our last chapter of the half of
05:08 - 05:09
the book talked about.
05:10 - 05:13
It's finding the balance between content and curriculum while also
05:14 - 05:16
maintaining passion and looking on the future of your students.
05:17 - 05:19
You want them to gain the knowledge that you need
05:19 - 05:21
to teach them, but you want them to find passion
05:22 - 05:23
in what they want to do in their future aspirations.
05:24 - 05:27
We also want to focus on future learning we are
05:27 - 05:31
building from past education, we don't stay frozen and stagnant.
05:31 - 05:35
We bloom and blossom and grow into future learning because
05:36 - 05:38
people stood up and created past educational opportunities.
05:40 - 05:43
We also have to understand how school and learning that
05:43 - 05:45
does not have the same meaning or intention.
05:45 - 05:47
People go to school.
05:47 - 05:51
School is a time school has classes, learning is engagement.
05:52 - 05:56
Learning is providing an innovative opportunity for your students to
05:56 - 05:59
learn while they're in those classes in the school building.
05:59 - 06:02
But just because you're going to school does not mean
06:02 - 06:02
that you're learning.
06:03 - 06:06
You have to create learning through having that innovative mindset.
06:09 - 06:11
I hope that you are able to learn something from
06:11 - 06:13
this and see why I chose this picture for the
06:13 - 06:16
front cover, because you have to grow and change and
06:17 - 06:21
provide opportunities for creativity to have the ultimate success otherwise
06:21 - 06:22
known as the innovators mindset.
06:23 - 06:24
Thank you.
