00:00 - 00:03
Hey, guys, My name is Molly Plowed, and right now
00:03 - 00:05
I'm an intern of the victim Advocate Office with the
00:05 - 00:06
Pitt County Sheriff's Department.
00:06 - 00:08
And I'm gonna tell you a little bit more about
00:08 - 00:08
my internship.
00:11 - 00:15
So here is where the internship is located.
00:16 - 00:18
It's inside the sheriff's office, which is located in the
00:18 - 00:20
courthouse on 100 west third Street.
00:21 - 00:23
There's the phone number for that, and Mr Chad Suggs
00:24 - 00:27
is the person who handles all the interns for this
00:27 - 00:30
department. But the people, you will directly work with our
00:30 - 00:32
Miss Langley and Miss Shepherd, and they're amazing advocates.
00:33 - 00:37
Yeah, here is my contact information.
00:38 - 00:40
Please feel free to reach out to me any time.
00:40 - 00:42
This is an amazing position, and I would love to
00:42 - 00:43
help you learn how to land this role.
00:46 - 00:48
Here's just a little bit more about what we do.
00:49 - 00:52
We work with victims to help them seek and fill
00:52 - 00:55
out and file domestic violence protection orders.
00:55 - 00:57
And we also work with people to do no contact
00:57 - 01:01
orders. Um, just a quick mental health morning, though you
01:01 - 01:03
you will be exposed to a lot of people's traumas.
01:04 - 01:07
A lot of their hardships, Um, and a lot of
01:07 - 01:07
things are not.
01:08 - 01:10
Don't always work out the way that we would like
01:11 - 01:11
them to.
01:11 - 01:13
There are a lot of sad cases, so it's important
01:14 - 01:15
to be aware of what you can handle and ensure
01:16 - 01:17
that you have a self care plan in place.
01:20 - 01:21
Here's some of the responsibilities.
01:22 - 01:23
Such a speaking with victims.
01:24 - 01:25
You'll inform them about the process.
01:26 - 01:26
You'll help them with the paperwork.
01:27 - 01:31
You'll get to file it and go see how the
01:31 - 01:34
court process works and what happens when the judge gets
01:34 - 01:35
involved. It's a pretty neat thing.
01:39 - 01:42
Yeah, things I love about my internship are the amazing
01:43 - 01:46
and supportive staff, the flexible hours and it's great location.
01:46 - 01:50
It's been such a fulfilling process to to see that
01:50 - 01:53
victims when they get relief like once their orders are
01:53 - 01:55
in place, it's just it's amazing.
01:57 - 01:59
Here are some challenges.
02:00 - 02:01
It's just very.
02:01 - 02:02
It's an emotional thing to do.
02:03 - 02:06
Um, and it's hard to not interject your own emotion
02:06 - 02:09
into your work and trying to find that balance of
02:09 - 02:12
keeping work and your own personal feeling separate.
02:12 - 02:15
It's it's definitely a challenge, but it's definitely worth it.
02:19 - 02:20
All right, child, let me know if you have any
02:20 - 02:22
questions. Thank you guys.
