00:01 - 00:03
Hi, moms and dads, Doctor Scott Haggerty.
00:03 - 00:04
And I want to take a few minutes here to talk
00:04 - 00:07
to you about something that so many parents are struggling with it
00:07 - 00:08
is colic.
00:08 - 00:10
And if you are a new parent and this
00:10 - 00:13
is hitting you right where you're living right now,
00:13 - 00:14
I want to give you a
00:14 - 00:18
10 or so minute presentation to talk to you about why this is happening
00:18 - 00:20
and what you need to know because moms and dads,
00:20 - 00:24
if this is your life and you're living with us on the daily basis,
00:24 - 00:26
then you absolutely know that this is where you need to be and we're gonna
00:26 - 00:30
get you answers to help you to understand why your child is dealing with colic.
00:30 - 00:35
But most importantly, what you can do because right now I know that you need hope
00:35 - 00:39
you need answers and you need action steps quickly
00:39 - 00:41
so you can know what to do about this.
00:41 - 00:42
I'm gonna start with the story.
00:42 - 00:46
So about a month or so ago, there was this little girl named Raven who came in,
00:46 - 00:48
sweet little girl, beautiful little princess.
00:48 - 00:52
Her mom dresses up in the prettiest little headbands every time you see her,
00:52 - 00:56
but she was having serious colic, I mean, crying all the time.
00:56 - 00:59
Mom was exhausted, couldn't put her down. Hardly ever slapped.
01:00 - 01:01
It was a really, really rough go for him.
01:02 - 01:03
Mom didn't know what to do.
01:03 - 01:04
Thankfully,
01:04 - 01:07
she actually knew us from a long time back when
01:07 - 01:09
we had taken care of her for something in her past
01:09 - 01:12
and she ended up deciding to go and bring her in knowing that
01:12 - 01:16
we work with all these types of issues constantly in our practice.
01:16 - 01:17
And she brought her in
01:17 - 01:20
and within a month's time, her colic is resolved.
01:20 - 01:23
It's been a massive change because she came in as a terrible feeder,
01:23 - 01:25
terrible sleeper, terrible pooper
01:25 - 01:28
after having a very difficult labor and delivery and having torn a colli
01:29 - 01:30
and in one month's time,
01:30 - 01:34
her colic is completely resolved and her quality of life is only getting
01:34 - 01:38
better as we're getting further and further along in her adjustive care plan.
01:38 - 01:41
Now, let's talk about what colic is because if you're living with this,
01:41 - 01:43
you need to know what you're looking for because if you're, you know,
01:43 - 01:47
trying to figure out what to do to help your child colic is very simply,
01:47 - 01:50
it's prolonged periods of uncontrollable crime, right?
01:50 - 01:52
Messes with sleep.
01:52 - 01:53
It can mess, it can affect development,
01:53 - 01:57
it can put the brain in a constant state of fight or flight and it is common.
01:57 - 02:02
One in four babies are going to have issues with colic to varying degrees.
02:03 - 02:04
Now,
02:04 - 02:07
let's talk about what we need to do here because moms today, ultimately,
02:07 - 02:09
it's gonna come down to understanding
02:09 - 02:11
that there are a number of different things that we
02:11 - 02:14
need to understand about the way that colic works.
02:14 - 02:16
Because if you're a parent, you've got some big challenges, right?
02:17 - 02:19
You're probably feeling pretty helpless, you're exhausted.
02:19 - 02:22
You know, something's wrong, don't know necessarily what to do about it.
02:22 - 02:26
And it only gets worse if you allow your child to cry it out,
02:26 - 02:28
which is what many people would recommend to do.
02:29 - 02:33
But this is what you're dealing with. Right? Intense crying, fussiness.
02:33 - 02:34
It's pretty predictable.
02:34 - 02:38
Baby gets all red, super rigid and stiff, arching, all kinds of stuff.
02:38 - 02:42
Oftentimes you're even seeing things like, um, you know, head banging,
02:42 - 02:44
you may be seeing things like, um,
02:44 - 02:46
their little faces are getting super red because
02:46 - 02:48
they're holding their breath all kinds of things.
02:48 - 02:50
And it's very distinct from when they're, you know,
02:50 - 02:52
just normal hunger pains when they're wanting to eat
02:52 - 02:54
or when the diapers are cha or need change.
02:55 - 02:56
You've got all these other things that are going
02:56 - 02:58
on that you need to understand that are happening
02:59 - 03:03
because colic is, is not one of these things where it's just a, um,
03:03 - 03:04
a simple set of symptoms.
03:04 - 03:06
You have to understand what is happening.
03:06 - 03:10
Colic can be very easily triggered by a number of different things,
03:10 - 03:13
but it is something that is a predictable thing that is
03:13 - 03:16
happening within the nervous system that is apparent needed to know about
03:16 - 03:17
in a nutshell.
03:17 - 03:19
It is an overstressed, very tense,
03:19 - 03:22
central nervous system and autonomic nervous system.
03:23 - 03:24
The number one most common
03:24 - 03:28
case history finding in Children that are dealing with issues with colic
03:29 - 03:32
is they had birth interventions or birth trauma.
03:32 - 03:36
And this is a big issue because if this is the what your child has gone through,
03:37 - 03:38
then you need to understand that this is
03:38 - 03:40
the situation that your child has gone through.
03:40 - 03:45
This big issue with a birth trauma that has created this thing called subluxation.
03:46 - 03:47
What is a subluxation? You might ask,
03:47 - 03:51
subluxation is something that results from stress in the nervous system.
03:51 - 03:53
Oftentimes relating to birth positioning
03:54 - 03:54
in
03:54 - 04:00
op positioning, birth trauma that causes a sub pathological, non pathological,
04:00 - 04:01
not a break, not a tear
04:02 - 04:03
to the, the the spinal column.
04:04 - 04:06
And as a result of that birth injury,
04:06 - 04:09
and oftentimes the accumulation of stress during the pregnancy,
04:09 - 04:11
that injury to the central nono
04:12 - 04:14
nervous system turns down the function of this
04:14 - 04:16
really important nerve called the vagus nerve.
04:16 - 04:18
The vagus nerve is a nerve
04:18 - 04:22
that regulates rest digest growth, development, healing.
04:22 - 04:25
It is the nerve that's not doing its job when your baby has colic.
04:25 - 04:28
It's not calming the central nervous system, it's not helping your baby to sleep.
04:29 - 04:32
It's not calming their G I it's not moving food through successfully.
04:32 - 04:34
It's the nerve that needs to be stimulated.
04:34 - 04:39
Well, if you've got a child with colic you're probably like doc get to the point.
04:39 - 04:43
How do I help my child who is dealing with this colic so I can get them to sleep finally.
04:44 - 04:46
Well, let me give you some answers.
04:46 - 04:50
Number one, you need to know what you're looking for and this becomes the problem.
04:50 - 04:51
If you've got a child that's dealing with colic.
04:51 - 04:55
If you don't know what the cause is, you don't know where to start. You're guessing
04:55 - 04:58
so many things that people will recommend using homeopathic and
04:59 - 05:01
you know, doing different types of nutritional changes,
05:01 - 05:03
their bandaids that oftentimes very ineffective
05:03 - 05:05
because they're going after a symptom
05:05 - 05:07
not getting to the root cause
05:07 - 05:10
we use these things here called thermal scans.
05:10 - 05:11
Thermal scans,
05:11 - 05:14
allow us to go and seeing what is happening at the level of the spinal cord.
05:14 - 05:18
Because where do all of the nerves come from that regulate your child's body,
05:18 - 05:19
the gut,
05:19 - 05:20
the G I
05:21 - 05:23
all things they come from the spinal cord.
05:23 - 05:26
This allows us to see what exactly is happening.
05:26 - 05:29
If you look at all these areas on the top graph,
05:29 - 05:32
those areas that are in red and green and blue,
05:32 - 05:35
those are all areas of abnormal activity.
05:36 - 05:39
Well, what I see as your chiropractor is I see a road map,
05:40 - 05:43
it tells me that you've got the green bar on the right at the top and the
05:43 - 05:47
red bar on the left that tells me there is torque on that baby's brain stem.
05:47 - 05:49
It tells me that all those areas are way
05:49 - 05:52
above normal and we need to adjust those areas,
05:52 - 05:53
get them moving.
05:53 - 05:58
So the brain could start to communicate and connect normally with the vagus nerve,
05:58 - 05:59
with the stomach, with the G I.
05:59 - 06:01
So we can begin calming down the nervous system.
06:01 - 06:03
We come down here a little bit further
06:04 - 06:07
and towards the middle of the graph, there's two great big red bars.
06:07 - 06:12
It shows t 18 90 10, lots of activity. Guess what? That's your baby's adrenal glands.
06:12 - 06:14
Those are the stress systems.
06:14 - 06:16
So those two areas there, right?
06:16 - 06:19
So the brain stem being affected and the whole pattern on the right side,
06:19 - 06:22
those are all patterns of stress that are
06:22 - 06:24
deep seated in this child's nervous system.
06:24 - 06:26
So what we need to do is we need
06:26 - 06:28
to begin unwinding that stress through gentle adjustments.
06:28 - 06:32
When we do gentle adjustments, they unwind that pattern,
06:32 - 06:35
that pattern, calms down and guess what you see with your baby
06:35 - 06:37
symptom improvement.
06:37 - 06:38
Like we saw with Raven,
06:38 - 06:43
the nervous system, calming down things getting better, better sleep,
06:43 - 06:44
better digestion,
06:44 - 06:47
seeing the symptoms progressively improve so that your
06:47 - 06:49
child's quality of life and in turn,
06:49 - 06:54
your quality of life can finally get better because you've gotten to the root cause,
06:54 - 06:56
which is the issues with the vagus nerve,
06:56 - 07:00
not working the way that it should because there's this underlying thing called dis
07:01 - 07:02
autonomia
07:02 - 07:05
disregulation of the autonomic because the nervous
07:05 - 07:07
system is locked into fight or flight.
07:07 - 07:11
When we start doing gentle adjustments. What we do is we activate the Vegas,
07:11 - 07:15
we opt the nervous system to calm down and you see better sleep, better, rest,
07:15 - 07:18
better digest and a calmer baby.
07:18 - 07:21
