00:02 - 00:05
Hi, I'm Laura, and my team members are testing it.
00:06 - 00:08
Our project has to do all about these and saving
00:09 - 00:12
them. This is an explanation of our problems.
00:13 - 00:15
The problem we're dealing with is the amount of bees
00:15 - 00:19
that are surrounding the school trash cans for the safety
00:20 - 00:23
of everyone on campus and the bees themselves.
00:23 - 00:27
We would like to relocate them, preferably with a new
00:28 - 00:28
permanent be home.
00:29 - 00:32
That is a safe distance away from the students we
00:32 - 00:33
have heard many times.
00:34 - 00:35
People complain about these.
00:36 - 00:38
Most people are not fans of these in your homes
00:39 - 00:40
in schools because they fear them.
00:42 - 00:43
They view them as dangerous and unsafe.
00:44 - 00:46
This is mainly because a lot of people are uneducated
00:47 - 00:47
about these.
00:49 - 00:51
These will only sting if they absolutely have to sing.
00:52 - 00:53
This is because they cannot sing repeatedly.
00:55 - 00:59
They can only sting other bugs repeatedly, but when it
01:00 - 01:02
comes to mammals, their singer gets stuck in the skin,
01:03 - 01:07
and when this happens, their singer is removed and it's
01:07 - 01:12
fatal. However, there is a low percentage of people that
01:12 - 01:16
do know that bees have a small population.
01:17 - 01:20
This all leads back to the amount of education people
01:20 - 01:25
get about bees this side is all about previous solutions.
01:27 - 01:30
These can be lured from their original location by using
01:30 - 01:32
sweet fruits such as mangoes.
01:33 - 01:36
They can be lured between 15 to 20 ft away
01:36 - 01:40
from their original location, and this can be repeated to
01:40 - 01:42
move the bees to a desired location.
01:44 - 01:46
The solution doesn't harm the hive of the beast.
01:46 - 01:50
It would just attract them to locate to a new
01:50 - 01:55
location. Another solution would be relocating the bees with the
01:55 - 01:58
help of a beekeeper for the safety of everyone involved.
01:59 - 02:02
There have been several solutions on how to lure away
02:02 - 02:04
bees without hurting them in the process.
02:06 - 02:09
More specifically, hives and plants that these will be attracted
02:09 - 02:13
to. There are many types of be homes that suit
02:14 - 02:15
the different types of beaks.
02:16 - 02:20
However, most of these solutions require maintenance of some sort
02:21 - 02:22
or an actual beekeeper.
02:23 - 02:27
And this usually requires a person that feels comfortable with
02:27 - 02:29
bees and has some knowledge of peace.
02:31 - 02:33
This is why most of these solutions don't work.
02:34 - 02:37
We would like a solution that would not require as
02:37 - 02:41
much maintenance, maybe a checkup with a club that is
02:41 - 02:43
interested in learning more about these.
02:45 - 02:46
Okay, so for our solution.
02:47 - 02:50
We want to make a new P home that is
02:50 - 02:54
a safe distance away from the students, so we don't
02:54 - 02:57
want them in the core of yard area or senior
02:57 - 02:57
patio area.
02:58 - 03:01
Where be harmful Time students kind of like wearing goals
03:02 - 03:05
are meant to repel these from our wanted areas such
03:05 - 03:09
as those and daisies coming to try to one location.
03:10 - 03:11
So the idea is to kind of push them out
03:12 - 03:13
and then learn them away.
03:13 - 03:19
And another area, ideally, for a location that's like outside
03:19 - 03:22
of school, not necessarily where all the students would be
03:22 - 03:23
something in the back woods area.
03:25 - 03:27
Um, I want to be home till it face the
03:27 - 03:30
sense that when they sent comes up, then they kind
03:31 - 03:31
of waste them up.
03:32 - 03:33
I want to some warm stand out there.
03:34 - 03:36
I'll go outside, do their business.
03:37 - 03:40
Afternoon. We want to make yourself have some shade, so
03:41 - 03:43
the location is very important situation.
03:45 - 03:47
I also want to make sure there's some installations so
03:47 - 03:49
that these can stay warm even during the winter.
03:51 - 03:52
Oh, yeah?
03:53 - 03:55
And then we also have some holes inside the wood
03:56 - 03:58
just so that we can, of course, breathe.
03:59 - 04:01
So ventilation?
04:02 - 04:06
Yes, and this product lived and results should be for
04:06 - 04:09
every day, weeks and that it doesn't make some requirements
04:10 - 04:11
for, like, maintenance or keeping.
04:12 - 04:15
No one has to really go there every single day.
04:16 - 04:19
Look after and again has to be safe just and
04:19 - 04:20
the rest of schools.
04:21 - 04:23
Um, so what is the status of the whole thing?
04:24 - 04:25
So every week or so to make sure that these
04:26 - 04:29
plants are watered and that they are taking care of
04:29 - 04:30
some things are dying.
04:31 - 04:35
Uh, some kind of unpreventable because patients, but for the
04:35 - 04:36
most part, they are safe.
04:38 - 04:43
And oh, the daisies are like are the ones that
04:43 - 04:45
are going to be attracted nonsense.
04:46 - 04:49
And then for the future, we want to make sure
04:49 - 04:51
that in order to keep the school, say these ones
04:52 - 04:56
and these have been, you know, dangerous, fascinating to the
04:56 - 04:56
school cell.
04:57 - 05:00
When I sent a club to kind of maintain they're
05:01 - 05:04
so again, of course not going to be every day
05:04 - 05:06
that we don't just to make sure that the higher
05:06 - 05:10
the homes are taking care of, uh, looked out for
05:12 - 05:14
and then yeah, and then they will have to put
05:14 - 05:17
a minimum amount of effort to taking care of those
05:17 - 05:24
homes. Oh, Throughout our project, we have followed this project
05:25 - 05:27
timeline. This lays out what needs to get done and
05:28 - 05:28
when it needs to be accomplished.
05:29 - 05:31
By first, we came up with a plan of what
05:32 - 05:33
we wanted to base our project off of.
05:34 - 05:36
We knew that these were a problem here at Lyman,
05:36 - 05:39
always trying to steal or serve and other food items
05:40 - 05:41
off our plates during our meals.
05:42 - 05:45
After we came up with a plan, everything else was
05:45 - 05:48
easy. Came up with a supply list of materials needed
05:48 - 05:49
to accomplish our goals.
05:50 - 05:52
And as soon as our materials were ordered and delivered,
05:53 - 05:55
we were able to begin working on everything.
05:56 - 05:58
As of right now, we are in the process of
05:59 - 06:02
actually building the B box, hopefully to be done in
06:02 - 06:03
the next coming weeks.
06:09 - 06:11
As you can see here, as soon as the plants
06:11 - 06:14
arrived, we went out and planted them around the courtyard
06:14 - 06:15
and the senior patio.
06:16 - 06:19
These plants help steer these away from our plates.
06:19 - 06:23
We added some fertilizer, and every two weeks we water
06:23 - 06:26
them to make sure they're healthy and getting all the
06:26 - 06:33
nutrients needed to survive on this slide are references.
06:34 - 06:37
We have to do extensive research to find out the
06:37 - 06:40
correct living arrangements for the bees and what plants are
06:40 - 06:43
best. Our goal is not to hurt them, but just
06:44 - 06:45
to give them a better place to live.
06:46 - 06:49
Thank you for listening to our presentation, and we hope
06:49 - 06:51
that you will do your part and make sure that
06:51 - 06:53
all the food gets to the trash cans.
