  1. Hello, Ted 717 week, number four.
  2. It is all about community this week and community is strength when, when, when
  3. sorry, community is strength when it comes to our school.
  4. So I felt that was appropriate going forward.
  5. So it's really, we're gonna dig into community
  6. in general. Um
  7. So before we do that, let's quick review.
  8. Um Last week, just as a little scaffolding for us all.
  9. So last week you dug into your school of choice.
  10. Um
  11. And I hope in a good way you found things that
  12. surprised you that are already in place and already working.
  13. Um And then of course, you found areas you need to focus on and that's OK. It's good.
  14. Um We have to have something
  15. to set our sights on a goal in mind and there's always room for improvement. So,
  16. um we're not perfect, but we're reflective is really the big takeaway.
  17. Um
  18. So now going forward, you can take this back to your space,
  19. take this to your school and suggest these areas of improvement
  20. when you're in those Pl CS or those all staff meetings,
  21. suggest areas.
  22. What do we want to focus on? Pick one of those. Um
  23. And then think of some professional development opportunities that you could go,
  24. uh could work on and just keep in mind this is a marathon.
  25. It is not a sprint. So we have to go slow to go fast and make those necessary changes.
  26. All right,
  27. next.
  28. So
  29. I'm gonna lecture in kind of with that reading and viewing piece.
  30. Um Again, like I said, it's all about community and what goes on in our communities.
  31. And we, how we need to recognize that to build on our strengths.
  32. So we know our communities have barriers.
  33. Of course,
  34. we know that there are barriers that we as
  35. the school can't solve and we can recognize that.
  36. But what can we do?
  37. So we need to look at what those barriers are, but then look at realistically,
  38. what can we do for improvement?
  39. Um
  40. What are some inclusive strategies perhaps that we can
  41. try in our schools to help strengthen that community?
  42. Um Can we have picnics? I know Duluth.
  43. Um the last couple of years, it's called unity in our community.
  44. And they do a huge back to school
  45. picnic um where they have like bouncy houses and obviously food,
  46. um a dunk tank with certain principles in it,
  47. but it's down right by Lake Superior. So in Duluth, but
  48. it was not well attended the first year, the second year.
  49. Um It was very well attended. This will be the third year now.
  50. Yes,
  51. the third year I'm sure it'll be even more well attended
  52. and it's just a celebration of back to school and it,
  53. they,
  54. they realized the community was missing that and
  55. missing that excitement and that awareness and,
  56. and it was a way to showcase some of the things they'd be
  57. doing that school year and showcase the schools and have teachers there.
  58. Um
  59. So it's just one way that you can build that bond
  60. with the community to then use them as a partner.
  61. Um
  62. I thought it was a good example.
  63. Um OK, chapter four, I'm
  64. reading chapter four in just schools and it's all about systemic collaborations.
  65. Um
  66. I felt like reading this, it gave me that, that finally gave me that.
  67. OK, here's how we can do this.
  68. Here's where we start versus, yeah,
  69. we know all of these issues are present in our spaces in our communities.
  70. But now what can we do with it? And it's not a one size fits
  71. piece.
  72. Um It also,
  73. I felt kind of ties into diversity as a whole because diversity has profound,
  74. you know, the barriers that we see with the diversity topics in our,
  75. in our communities have profound um
  76. profound, what's, what's the word I'm trying to say, I can't think of it right now,
  77. but
  78. it's affecting, we could say consequences, I guess, but um
  79. impacts,
  80. I guess profound impacts on our schools based on what's going on in the community.
  81. So it kind of tied into that more. So that white privilege piece. But
  82. there's an article
  83. in this module that you have been assigned.
  84. Remember there is a live happening,
  85. you must read this article before the live or before you post your discussion.
  86. So the live is optional.
  87. Choose to come or not dates times all listed in canvas, right?
  88. In the module itself, you'll see it right away.
  89. Um
  90. That being said
  91. when you attend, you need to read, you may see that you are,
  92. there are two people assigned per article or there's just one.
  93. If there's two,
  94. I've kind of given you equal parts to those longer articles to sh share the wealth.
  95. You might feel like you need to scam or peruse that article um
  96. in a entirety if you're one of those um groups,
  97. but you don't have to meet or anything like that.
  98. It's just we're gonna come with what we learned to that discussion to that live
  99. and we're go or we're gonna um answer the,
  100. the discussion questions in their entirety in the post.
  101. So totally up to you optional live.
  102. If you come to the live, you don't have to do the written post.
  103. If you don't come to the live, you do the written post. Um
  104. And so we'll have that dialogue based on our um
  105. yeah, our
  106. article itself,
  107. I should say that there's other pieces and I
  108. should have went to that discussion piece already.
  109. I'm sorry.
  110. Um
  111. There are some other resources directly in the module.
  112. Um Lots of info,
  113. lots of text Pacer PAC er is a website that
  114. I just threw in there as just to do some exploration
  115. um has some really good ideas and then there's also a series of videos that
  116. there's its own module and it has all the directions,
  117. but there's a series of videos to watch that I found um helpful.
  118. So
  119. um one thing to think about is really to compare
  120. those videos to the article that you've been assigned to
  121. and the text that we needed to read today.
  122. Ok.
  123. Last an assignment. It's a powerpoint.
  124. Um You'll be creating a powerpoint presentation
  125. where you're utilizing our discussion that we had
  126. in the live or the discussion board and the comments that were on that.
  127. So you'll be utilizing that on top of all of the resources from this week. Ok.
  128. And you're creating this powerpoint.
  129. If, if you want,
  130. if you don't like powerpoint and you want
  131. to use a different modality than powerpoint,
  132. that's fine.
  133. But it has to have speaker notes because you don't have to be, it's not a video of you.
  134. Ok.
  135. Um So make sure your speaker notes are in there.
  136. What would you say during this powerpoint?
  137. Ok. I believe that is it.
  138. If you have questions as we go about this week, please,
  139. please please let me know know that I'm checking email for
  140. the most part just in the mornings and then if I,
  141. if I don't get it,
  142. um
  143. when I check it, I'll check it the following morning. So you'll get a response.
  144. I do take the weekends off to be with my family.
  145. So that's why our everything's not due till Monday at 9 a.m. or Tuesday at 9 a.m.
  146. to give me that flexibility to answer questions
  147. or grant extensions before the given due date.
  148. So
  149. that's why
  150. I hope this finds you.
  151. Well,
  152. I hope it finds you um in a healthy spot
  153. in terms of relaxing and refreshing a little bit.
  154. And um yeah, let me know what you need.
