  1. We appreciate you serving as a virtual event host today
  2. as we wrap up what has probably been has probably
  3. has been probably the strangest year in our existence.
  4. My name is Mike Gettings, and I'm the owner of
  5. Panther Heating and Cooling, and I've had the pleasure of
  6. serving as chairman of the regional chamber board in 2020.
  7. Every outgoing chamber chair says it's been a busy year,
  8. but 2020 tops them all.
  9. We have been busy this year in a very different
  10. way, and I'm so proud of how we've worked together
  11. to support the business community.
  12. 2020 was a true test of our hey by the
  13. resource to our members in the early days of covert.
  14. Like many of you, we dealt with staff reductions and
  15. budget cuts and quickly began thinking rethinking goals that we're
  16. no longer relevant.
  17. We shifted our goals from an ambitious strategic plan and
  18. fundraising effort to, um or charitable approach.
  19. Meeting the basic needs of local businesses.
  20. We immediately suspended program fees and collections of our other
  21. receivables and began reaching out with personal phone calls to
  22. our small businesses.
  23. We quickly created an online resource guide, sorted through the
  24. details of fast moving legislation that related to employers and
  25. posted daily updates from the C, D.
  26. C D Hack, the Manufacturers Association and the Small Business
  27. Administration. We partnered with other local and state organizations to
  28. provide virtual updates on stimulus funds, loans and other available
  29. financial support.
  30. In an effort to help small businesses adapt, we teamed
  31. up with several of our members to offer online professional
  32. support and Coaching Way organized virtual networking events as an
  33. opportunity for members to share their challenges, solutions and successes.
  34. By the end of the year, we had hosted and
  35. participated in 70 different programs and events, with several offered,
  36. both in person and online to both to best meet
  37. the needs of our membership.
  38. We learned what works and what doesn't in the world
  39. of virtual programming, and we continue to search for solutions
  40. that best fit our chamber and community.
  41. Like the rest of the world, we're using the terms
  42. pivot and reinvent and a whole new way.
  43. Okay, Uh huh.
  44. Have toe bring.
  45. I was in a movie one time be film.
  46. E was a freshman in high school, Thea Ventures of
  47. the young Van Helsing I was part of it.
  48. First part guy on wall second part guy cheering in
  49. crowd e hashtag hashtag But you can see me like
  50. getting into things that like my mark g o our
  51. e o Other items of note year were wide ranging
  52. with potential impact on businesses of all sizes and from
  53. all areas of our county.
  54. Following our merger with the Greater York Chamber in the
  55. latter part of 2019, we stay started 2020 with the
  56. very first day of community event in York throughout the
  57. year. We continue to work towards learning how we can
  58. best serve the unique needs of businesses and our newest
  59. service area.
  60. We also set out to achieve 50% representation of female
  61. membership on the chamber boards and committees.
  62. I'm proud to say that we met this goal and
  63. in fact, all but one of our boards and committees
  64. are led by women in 2021 along Okay, we supported
  65. legislation to standardize business business license fee, business license fees,
  66. procedures, way supported legislation to standardize business license fees.
  67. Wolf. That's correct.
  68. I wanna make it wrong.
  69. I'm trying to make it wrong.
  70. Well, I think what happened is you miss the in
  71. the area of advocacy.
  72. Uh, in the in the area of advocacy, we supported
  73. legislation to standardize business license feet procedures across our state.
  74. This legislation is signed was signed by the governor and
  75. became effective in October, making South Carolina more business friendly
  76. state and, as a result, supporting our local businesses who
  77. served multiple communities across the region related to kind of
  78. a 19 needs.
  79. Back in the spring, the chamber urged Governor McMaster to
  80. balance the interests of business and the public health and
  81. his demand determination of essential workers and phased reopening.
  82. We also supported virus related federal liability protections for employers.
  83. While this was ultimately dropped from the proposed congressional bill,
  84. we understand this issue is still in play.
  85. We need to change that section.
  86. Well, he did.
  87. Oh, he did.
  88. Yeah. This is his rewrite.
  89. Um, we understand this issue is still in play.
  90. He wanted to make it less.
  91. Yeah, because it's, um e don't want to say we
  92. understand it still in play because we know it is
  93. now. So what?
  94. What did it?
  95. Oh, i'll grab his.
  96. You know, I mean, mhm e uh, maybe it's something
  97. simple. Like, take that.
  98. We understand this issue is still in play.
  99. We continue to monitor and support this legislation in 20
  100. in the new earn.
  101. Just that, you know, we understand the issues don't play.
  102. Just put, we'll continue to monitor and support this legislation.
  103. Ugo e a other thoughts for Mike E.
  104. Okay, so Nancy start smoking, and then it will be
  105. like that.
  106. And that will be like, Well, he's on phone screen.
  107. I'll switch it to the next one, and we're all
  108. to thank.
  109. As a group, the council board chairs who's also served
  110. on the regional board.
  111. Those individuals were recognized at the December board meeting and
  112. have received or will soon receive, a plaque expressing our
  113. appreciation. Uh, all right.
  114. Okay. Alright.
  115. Didn't do that.
  116. Right. But I will.
  117. What is it?
  118. Well, I switched it.
  119. Oh, switch your full screen, and then he's gonna hopefully
  120. say something's off script, and then it's bored.
  121. I just was a little lagging behind.
  122. Sorry. I call it this part here.
  123. All right.
  124. I just right here.
  125. And I was like, Oh, no, I'm behind already, but
  126. he's gonna be Oh, he's gonna be saying things there.
  127. E no What?
  128. I know what happened.
  129. Let's go back, Thio.

  138. He also served on the regional board.
  139. Those individuals were recognized at the December board meeting, and
  140. I've received or will soon receive a plaque expressing our
  141. appreciation. Also rotating off the regional board was Mark Howie
  142. of York Electric Co Op, who was immediate past chair
  143. in 2019 as my predecessor.
  144. Mark left big shoes to fill but was very helpful
  145. to me in my role of board chair.
  146. Moving on to 2021.
  147. We're pleased to present an outstanding slate of individuals to
  148. serve as this year's officers and board of directors.
  149. According to our bylaws, this announcement serves as the official
  150. installation installation.
  151. Yep, of our 2021 directors and officers, a big thank
  152. you to all who served the chamber in any capacity
  153. over the past year and regardless of whether or not
  154. you had to be talked into serving than full screen
  155. of mine.
  156. Rob recognition.
  157. Speaking of people who have served our business community, one
  158. of the biggest changes our organization saw in 2020 was
  159. the retirement announcement of our longtime president, Rob Young Blood
  160. Rob Glaser Pictures.
  161. After 18 years in this role, Rob has left an
  162. undeniable mark on this organization in our community.
  163. Like many of you, I had the privilege of working
  164. side by side with Rob, and we should all count
  165. ourselves lucky to have had this capable leader as the
  166. head of this great chamber.
  167. Thanks to co, we have delayed in official gathering in
  168. his honor, but we will be planning this for Spring
  169. of 2021.
  170. In the meantime, while it's impossible to thank him for
  171. all that he has done for our chamber for his
  172. hometown of Rockville and for our county and region, we'd
  173. like to give it a shot.
  174. Here's a video for your enjoyment.
  175. Okay, when we insert, we're finding out their award.
  176. So at this point for Mike's recording, little Paul's for
  177. 15 2030 seconds, Whatever.
  178. And then that's where it will become part two.
  179. So I'll cut that and all that.
  180. And then after video, you'll be switched light to full
  181. screen of light in closing.
  182. I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure
  183. serving the chamber.
  184. Sorry. Hold on.
  185. So where?
  186. Well, he announced todo mike doesn't wanna.
  187. He said, hey, just wants Thio now the video Because
  188. he had rewrites on this that he was going to
  189. say. So he's gonna explain everything in the video.
  190. Okay, so then when we come back from the video,
  191. I should have this on the probably in my lifetime
  192. business achievement awards screen like this.
  193. What is that screen?
  194. Yeah, when we come back from the video, we can
  195. This could be the first screen, and then he can
  196. move on.
  197. Yeah, because nothing else needs to be said about it.
  198. Right? Right.
  199. Yeah, that makes sense.
  200. No. Okay, wait.
  201. Okay. Oh, mhm.
  202. Yeah. Okay.
  203. All right.
  204. You know, I just thought it's your laptop that's gonna
  205. be picking up the microphone to, is it?
  206. This isn't it.
  207. This microphone, though, is that a microphone to it should
  208. be. Yeah, it is whether or not that's what's connected.
  209. E I just thought about that.
  210. If you're over there, it might be.
  211. That's good.
  212. Let further sound E So all right.
  213. Yep. In closing, I can honestly say that it has
  214. been a pleasure serving the chair chamber and all of
  215. our members as your 2020 regional board chair.
  216. As I transition into the favorite status of immediate past
  217. chair, I know that the chamber is in very good
  218. hands with Chair Amy Faulcon very other volunteer leaders and
  219. are able staff Amy.
  220. I'll pass the gavel to you virtually.
  221. And then I wrote to look forward to but on
  222. my notes from yesterday, but I didn't know what what
  223. we said.
  224. I hope that he would feel that.
  225. Okay, uh, like Phil, and he probably won't say a
  226. lot more at this point, But maybe he's thinking about
  227. and then we need to grab that gavel from my
  228. office, OK?
  229. And now we'll continue with the presentation of a few
  230. more of our awards.
  231. Thank you.
  232. And then.
  233. All right, so this is really the only tricky part,
  234. right? Yeah.
  235. Uh huh.
  236. So it comes back from the video, will have the
  237. award slide up last.
  238. Let's ask Mike to pause before he starts talking in
  239. on part two E guess you will anyway.
  240. Yeah, We're not gonna Yeah, okay.
  241. Great. Mhm.
  242. Okay. E think that you might want to move the
  243. stool over just a bit more weight adjustment?
  244. Yeah, that's better Way great.
  245. Tell me more.
  246. Tell me more.
  247. Okay, Got that?
  248. So now me E c.
  249. One spacing error on this slide, and I don't want
