  1. So for my multimodal project, I thought that I would
  2. kind of create a Prezi video to kind of map
  3. out in the visual form.
  4. My journey from high school to VCU.
  5. Um, so let's start from the very beginning of the
  6. end of high school, Although high school ended quite abruptly
  7. for me in my, um, senior class of 2020 I
  8. did feel really appreciative that we made the best of
  9. it. Um, me and my family, um, participated in the,
  10. um, senior parades where the seniors would, um, getting their
  11. convertible cars and drive through the neighborhoods and the community
  12. would kind of give them collapse and props for their
  13. graduation and things like that.
  14. So I'm really grateful due to the circumstances, um, I
  15. got to celebrate myself in my in my class.
  16. Um, next was, you know, saying goodbye to friends and
  17. family. This was probably the hardest part about transitioning from
  18. high school to college.
  19. You know, everyone talks about kind of turning the page
  20. and, you know, saying goodbye.
  21. Um and, you know, it was a little bit harder
  22. because I didn't really have that send off from high
  23. school. That kind of that.
  24. Every other senior had that really kind of marks the
  25. end of an era.
  26. I had to kind of take control of it myself.
  27. And, um, I was really blessed that I did get
  28. to spend a lot of time with my family because,
  29. you know, we were quarantined and isolated, Um, due to
  30. the lockdown.
  31. So I did get to spend a lot of time,
  32. and, um, I cherished it a lot.
  33. Um, and luckily, going to VCU, I got to take
  34. two of my best friends from high school.
  35. Um, and we ended up being in the same dorm,
  36. so that was really helpful.
  37. But I did have to leave behind, um, one of
  38. my really good friends, Alyssa.
  39. Um, but we still try our best to stay in
  40. touch and, um, see each other as soon as possible
  41. and all that stuff, um, and then move in.
  42. Um, it was a really chaotic day.
  43. I wasn't really, you know, expecting a lot, because with
  44. covid, it's really hard to get all of these students
  45. into one building along with their families.
  46. And I was expecting it to be really chaotic and
  47. disorderly, but it wasn't that bad?
  48. Um, it was it was actually a really good moment
  49. for me and my family getting to, like, kind of
  50. have that send off.
  51. And, um, as you can see, we decorated my dorm
  52. all together, and we took some pictures.
  53. And, um, after that, we went into the city and
  54. got lunch.
  55. And I have a lot of fond memories of that
  56. day because it was just It was a really wonderful
  57. day and, um, a really good point in my journey,
  58. Um, then from, you know, living in the suburbs of
  59. Northern Virginia to Richmond.
  60. I was born and raised in northern Virginia.
  61. I lived in the same house ever since I was
  62. born to when I left for college.
  63. So I had no experience with living anywhere other than
  64. my home.
  65. Um, and I'm going to be honest, moving to a
  66. city such as Richmond and kind of going to such
  67. a different area really scared me.
  68. I wasn't I wasn't really, um, comfortable.
  69. And I was I was nervous that I wasn't going
  70. to assimilate as well, or I was going to get
  71. lost all the time.
  72. Or, um, I wasn't going to feel his home.
  73. Um, but, uh, I ended up just loving in the
  74. city, just falling in love with it.
  75. Northern Virginia can be a suffocating area sometimes, Um, and
  76. I kind of grew up around the same type of
  77. people with the same type of mindset, but something that
  78. I love that Richmond has is it has such a
  79. kind of unique way of everyone is different here.
  80. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, has different mindsets and different
  81. perspectives. And the art and culture is so rich here.
  82. And that's something that I kind of was deprived of
  83. going up.
  84. And the switch, although I was really nervous about it,
  85. ended up being a wonderful, beautiful thing for me.
  86. Um, so then, you know, comes exploring the city.
  87. Luckily, as I said earlier, I got to bring my
  88. two best friends, Emma and Maddie, and, um, I kind
  89. of had them as a crutch when I was, you
  90. know, moving into a completely different city.
  91. We went around and we looked at all the dining
  92. options. Of course, we went to carry street.
  93. Um, we went to a bunch of cool crystal shops,
  94. and, um, I think we all fell in love with
  95. the city together.
  96. We got to really explore it.
  97. And it gave us this kind of sense of independence
  98. that, um, we all shared in the one moment I
  99. thought that was really beautiful.
  100. I loved the city.
  101. I just fell in love with all of it because
  102. it's it's so rich in history and culture and art.
  103. Um, and I think all of my friends and I
  104. shared that kind of interest in it.
  105. Um, so the start of classes, um, a lot of
  106. my friends only had online classes, But for first semester,
  107. I was really blessed that I had to in person
  108. classes, Um, and, of course, focus.
  109. Angry. One being one of them.
  110. Um, and also, I had a presentations class where, as
  111. you see, I'm presenting.
  112. I had to present almost once a week.
  113. Um, it really pushed me out of my comfort zone.
  114. Um, even though I did do a lot of performance
  115. based things in high school, I had never really had,
  116. um a lot of experience being the only person in
  117. front of a room of people speaking about something that
  118. I prepared on it.
  119. It was it was a very, um, really cool class
  120. for me.
  121. And, um, my online classes, we're pretty good.
  122. I was nervous about online classes because, um, you know,
  123. in high school, you you see your teachers every day.
  124. And if you have a question, you can just quickly
  125. ask them in person and clarify.
  126. Um, but online classes are a little different.
  127. You're kind of left on your own for a lot
  128. of it, and especially with the asynchronous classes, you have
  129. to create your schedule and you have to map out
  130. your time a lot better.
  131. And it was kind of a little bit harder for
  132. time management for me, so I mean, I was a
  133. little nervous about online classes, but I got the hang
  134. of it after first semester.
  135. And now that all my classes are fully online, I
  136. feel like I've really got the hang of online classes.
  137. Um, So my first Mr Classes were great.
  138. And and Yeah, um, you know, through my classes, I
  139. also got to learn more about my passions and my
  140. major, um, I am creative advertising.
  141. Creative advertisement major.
  142. Um, and I always kind of had an inkling and
  143. an interest in advertisement.
  144. Um, just because I think it's a really powerful tool
  145. to promote a business, and I always thought that was
  146. really interesting side of, you know, business itself.
  147. But also, I got to kind of, um, explore a
  148. lot of the music here, and I got to really
  149. explore my passions with music.
  150. Um, I've been playing and singing all throughout my life,
  151. but when I came to Richmond, it was kind of
  152. the first time where I got to collaborate with people
  153. and kind of hear different sounds and kind of how
  154. that impacted my music.
  155. And it was really It was really cool because high
  156. school, I didn't really have the opportunity to collaborate with
  157. people with creating music, and that was really special to
  158. me. And, um, I also joined the VCU ad club,
  159. which is super super cool.
  160. Um, my, um, advertising one on one class actually introduced
  161. me to the club, and I've been in it for,
  162. um, a semester and a half now, So it's been
  163. it's been great.
  164. And, uh, I'm getting really into the into advertising and
  165. learning a lot more about my major.
  166. And because of that, I'm a lot more passionate about
  167. the classes that I have.
  168. Um, so as I said earlier, um, my love for
  169. music definitely grew.
  170. Um, I've always had, you know, just a love for
  171. music. It's been my life, my passion.
  172. Um, but coming to VCU, I learned so much more
  173. about music and what I was listening to, you know,
  174. in high school, I kind of stuck to one genre
  175. and made a certain type of music.
  176. Um, but coming to BC, I met so many people
  177. and we bonded through the music that we listen to,
  178. you know, people would be like, Oh, have you heard
  179. this album?
  180. And then they'd show me, and I would kind of
  181. it would be like a culture shock.
  182. I just kind of learned so much more about, um,
  183. genres. And I got I tip my toes into so
  184. many different types of music and albums and met so
  185. many people that know so much about music and taught
  186. me so much about it.
  187. And that also kind of bled into how I view
  188. my musicality and my my music.
  189. And that was amazing.
  190. And that's only I'm really grateful for, and a big
  191. thing about my journey from high school to VCU.
  192. Um, I, of course, last but not least made some
  193. amazing friendships with covid.
  194. It's It's been really hard to be social and get
  195. out there and, um, kind of meet people because, you
  196. know, social distancing makes it really hard to kind of
  197. form those connections.
  198. But, um, luckily, GRC is a huge dorm.
  199. There's so many people here, and, um, I also came
  200. in with my friends, so we kind of met a
  201. bunch of people together, and we formed these amazing friendships
  202. and, um, despite covid, we you know, we formed a
  203. lot of genuine connections, and I'm really grateful for that.
  204. And yeah, I can't wait to see what the coming
  205. years bring from VCU.
  206. Thank you guys so much.
  207. I hope you enjoyed it.
  208. Thank you.
