green school redesign proposal.
So what is the green school and the definition and
why it should be built?
A green school is defined as a school that creates
a healthy environment that is conducive to learning while saving
energy, money and environmental resources.
Another benefit of a green school is that it can
improve one's health because of all the different safety measures
that are put into place in these schools.
So why should we build a green school at Sanderson?
We should build a green school here at Sanderson because
it helps the environment and it fights against climate change.
And it can also help to improve the health of
the people in the school in a number of different
ways, and which these ways can help to increase attendance
because there won't be as many sick days since the
health will improve.
So some areas that can be improved our transportation, water
conservation, cafeteria in the classroom, these different areas all have
things that make them not fitting to be a green
school. Currently as they are, but with some changes to
be made, they could turn into um, qualities that fit
into the green school categories.
so a potential energy source that would be good for
Saturday. Very high school to turn it into a green
school would be solar energy.
And there are different ways that solar energy could be
harnessed and used at Saturday very high school, one being
traditional solar panels and the second being solar windows.
So in solar panels, traditional solar panels could be put
in on the roof of the school and probably could
work quite well, since the roof of the high school
is mostly flat and there's quite a bit of surface
area for the solar panels to be installed on.
As for the other option, the solar windows, they aren't
the only things.
Solar panels aren't the only things that can harness energy
from the sun and turn into usable energy.
Solar windows can essentially do the same thing, and these
windows would be a good fit for Saturday 10 area
high school because there are lots of windows in the
building and on the concourse for the ceiling has the
frosted glass windows.
The um, sun hits there quite often and could get
a lot of energy from the solar windows, so some
advantages of solar energy is that even though solar energy
doesn't function extremely efficiently at night, people aren't in schools
during the night time.
For the majority of the time, the majority of the
people will be in the school during the daytime, which
is when there will be some sort of UV rays
given off from this one.
So then, as for our transportation, transportation could be the
hardest challenge of turning his solitary high school into a
green school.
Because there needs to be an eco friendly vehicle that
can transport the same amount of kids that a traditional
school bus does.
And they're, as of now are essentially really two options.
We can either convert our existing school buses to run
on something other than gas, or we can buy new
ones. And either option that we choose can help to
reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which
in turn helps the environment.
So if we were to convert our existing school buses
to make them more eco friendly, we could convert them
so that they use either biofuel or that they run
hybrid so that there are less greenhouse gases being emitted
into the atmosphere.
The other option would be to buy new buses.
And if we were to buy new buses, these could
be ones that are electric, and there are currently manufacturers
out there who are selling them and making them.
Yeah. As for water conservation, water conservation usage is a
big part of a green school.
On average, the green school reduces water usage by 32%
because the water is used in a practical and lust
wasteful way.
So at Saturday's very high school, we could have a
rainwater collection slash storage system, and this would be a
system that is in place that collects the rainwater that
falls. And then we can use that as a water
source for the school.
It might not be able to fulfill all of the
water needs for the whole entire school, but it could
be used in different spaces, so some places where the
water could be used would be in the bathrooms, the
kitchens and the science classrooms.
Now, this system probably wouldn't be able to fill all
three of these areas completely, but in the least, it
should at least be able to fulfill the needs of
the faucets in the science classrooms.
As for the cafeteria, there are three different solutions that
could potentially help the cafeteria to become a green space
in the school.
One is reducing plastic use to having a compost bin
and three adding another greenhouse.
So for reducing the plastic.
Use some ways to do that, or to change all
of the Styrofoam and plastic containers into biodegradable containers, along
with biodegradable utensils instead of the conventional plastic ones that
are used at the school.
Biodegradable means that they will be able to break down
later quite faster than, um, traditional other things.
And so then that can go right back into the
earth. And it will make sure that there won't need
to be as much plastic made because there won't be
as much used.
And the landfills won't get filled up with the waste
from all of the containers.
As for having a compost bin by having one in
the cafeteria, where the uneaten slash the rest of the
food can be placed can help the trash cans not
become so overwhelmingly full, and then once the compost has
broke down, then it can be used as fertilizer into
the greenhouse for the plants to grow mhm for adding
another greenhouse.
If we were to add another greenhouse, we could have
a place to grow fruits and vegetables so that they
could be used in the cafeteria instead of having produce
delivered from other sources and having vehicles emit greenhouse gases
transporting to the school.
However, often that we get a food delivery as to
the classroom, the classroom is probably the area where the
most change could happen in order to make the school
a green school.
So there are six different changes that could be made.
One is a recycling program to replace water fountains, three
motion sensor lights, four remove toxic materials, five switch cleaning
materials and six change desks.
As for the recycling program in each classroom, there needs
to be proper recycling receptacles that are clearly marked that
people can easily recycle their materials in our school.
Currently, we do have recycling and trash receptacles, but they
often just have trash thrown into the recycling because people
either a don't see the trash can or be don't
feel like walking and putting it in there.
There could also be a separate paper recycling bin where
all of the papers can get put into have been
and be used for a different purpose.
There could be a person or a group that goes
around to each classroom and gives a presentation on exactly
what can and cannot be recycled, because there are lots
of people who do not know the difference between something
that can be recycled and something that cannot.
So an idea for the paper recycling could be that
there could be a class or a club who goes
around and collects all of the paper recycling bins and
all the paper that's in them, and then find some
way to turn that recycled paper into something else.
It could be a biomass energy source or paper towels
or art, or anything, but just so that it could
be used in a different, more creative way.
As for replacing the water fountains, another way to make
classrooms green is by replacing the water fountains on all
the floors with the bottle fillers.
Because traditional water fountains waste a lot of water, and
half the water doesn't even make it into the person's
mouth when they are using that water fountain.
So by having the bottle fillers there can be a
lot less water wasted because it will be concentrated into
filling the bottle.
As for motion sensor lights, it's pretty obvious what they
do. Um, if the lights are based off of movement,
then they could be shut off.
And there's no need for them to be on and
to be consuming energy, which helps make the school more
energy efficient.
Instead of having these lights that are dripping energy, removing
toxic materials wouldn't be such a big deal in the
high school.
But in an elementary setting.
Um, by removing all like the toxic paints and the
markers and like most of the art supplies that are
toxic and toxic things in them than that helps there
to be less health concerns and less breathing problems, which
helps the air to fill trade better.
Another thing to do is to switch all the cleaning
materials. All of the classrooms should change their cleaning materials
to ones that are eco friendly.
In most cleaners, there are lots of ingredients that people
can't pronounce and probably don't know.
The side effects slash concerns of using them, so eco
friendly cleaners should not be used only for the environment
but also for other people's health and changing the desks
by trying to find a material other than plastic to
make the desk out of that, it will be more
environmentally friendly.
And some ideas for another material could be to make
the desk out of plastic weighs from the lunches or
even wood something other than plastic to help, um, reduce
the footprint of carp.
So in conclusion, we should have a green school.
That's additon because lots of the students in the school
could get involved.
And there could be many different classes.
Slash clubs that are added to help the students figure
out how it is to take care of the environment
and to make a green school that they can later
applied to their own lives when they are out of
when they are out of their parents' house and on
their own, so that they can make sustainable, eco friendly
decisions once they're living on their own and continue to
