00:01 - 00:04
Hey guys, Jessica Taber here to talk to you about
00:04 - 00:08
the bruin You center, you got some great news.
00:08 - 00:11
But first, let's touch on the objective of our program.
00:12 - 00:16
We wish to provide a positive environment for the local
00:16 - 00:21
Children to go and to grow and to learn things
00:21 - 00:26
and to work with local volunteers and caretakers to learn
00:26 - 00:29
the skills needed to become a productive citizen in our
00:29 - 00:36
society. Come back to begin our program.
00:37 - 00:41
We needed to secure substantial funding, which we did through
00:42 - 00:45
meeting with local clubs like the Qantas and the Amvets.
00:46 - 00:48
Um, we're so grateful for their support.
00:48 - 00:52
We also needed to acquire real estate for the actual
00:52 - 00:58
center. Um, we decided to purchase a historical building in
00:58 - 01:02
downtown Hartford City and have been working to rehabilitate the
01:03 - 01:04
building to use for our center.
01:04 - 01:06
And it is working out fabulously.
01:07 - 01:10
We have actually made the community very happy because we're
01:10 - 01:13
not tearing down anymore buildings in the downtown area.
01:15 - 01:21
Um, our groundbreaking did happen and in a late spring,
01:21 - 01:25
early summer um and we are definitely on track to
01:25 - 01:27
complete our project within our timeline.
01:34 - 01:36
As I stated, we are on track with our goals
01:36 - 01:37
and our objectives.
01:38 - 01:41
So how do I know while we perform an internal
01:42 - 01:46
analysis and compare our goals with the actual work would
01:46 - 01:48
prevent completed?
01:49 - 01:50
Here are milestones.
01:51 - 01:53
Um we wanted to begin back in december, which we
01:54 - 02:00
did. Um we started seeking funding, forming our board, getting
02:01 - 02:05
the idea floating around the town to make sure that
02:05 - 02:07
this was a good idea and this is what the
02:07 - 02:08
community wanted and would support.
02:09 - 02:11
Um Like I said, the groundbreaking was in the late
02:12 - 02:16
spring, early summer and we are anticipated to complete by
02:16 - 02:18
the end of the year and we'll have a New
02:18 - 02:21
Year's Eve event and we are very excited to start
02:21 - 02:22
with that.
02:23 - 02:28
Yeah. Um, here's our gant chart, this shows our progress
02:29 - 02:31
or what we wanted to complete.
02:32 - 02:35
I can assure you that we are well along in
02:35 - 02:38
this complete build phase um since we didn't have to
02:39 - 02:41
build from scratch, we were able to use and already
02:43 - 02:47
constructed building and just make alterations and rehabilitations to that
02:48 - 02:54
property. The burn down chart is just another representation of
02:55 - 02:59
where we are expected to be versus where we are.
02:59 - 03:04
We are expected to be right here, but we are
03:04 - 03:08
actually further along on the orange line to complete sooner.
03:10 - 03:15
Another way to analyze a project is to see how
03:16 - 03:19
the project has impacted those around you, those in the
03:19 - 03:24
community. Um, sorry about this project impact.
03:26 - 03:29
It has been amazing to watch the community come together
03:30 - 03:31
and support this project.
03:32 - 03:34
Um, I've grown up in this community and I've heard
03:35 - 03:39
buzz about a community center, a youth center, more youth
03:40 - 03:44
opportunities for us and for our Children, but nobody's ever
03:45 - 03:48
stepped up to do anything.
03:48 - 03:51
So that was my major goal here was to to
03:51 - 03:54
fill that need that nobody else has really wanted to
03:55 - 03:56
take over.
03:57 - 04:01
Uh The youth have just loved the place they love
04:01 - 04:04
coming in and Uh huh.
04:05 - 04:06
Yeah. Learning.
04:07 - 04:11
We've set up some some sample shops over at some
04:12 - 04:16
local churches, just just to see where what the youth
04:16 - 04:19
are liking these days, what kind of programs they have
04:19 - 04:24
more interested before We invest a lot into our program.
04:25 - 04:26
Yeah, Okay.
04:35 - 04:40
Throughout the program, a project I should say we have
04:40 - 04:43
made note of some of the things that have went
04:43 - 04:45
well as well as some of the things that have
04:45 - 04:46
not gone so well.
04:47 - 04:51
One of the things that I have learned is that
04:51 - 04:54
we should definitely pre plan our programs.
04:55 - 04:59
We should do more surveys, have more meetings um include
05:00 - 05:03
the youth groups that are actually already formed within the
05:03 - 05:07
churches. Um And then also get some input from the
05:07 - 05:12
Children outside of the youth groups where like what do
05:12 - 05:13
they want to learn?
05:13 - 05:15
What do they need to learn?
05:16 - 05:17
Do they want to cook more?
05:18 - 05:19
Do they want to play games more?
05:20 - 05:24
Like where where should we focus our programming right now?
05:26 - 05:28
And that would be a continual thing that we would
05:29 - 05:34
we would revamp as the needs and the desires of
05:34 - 05:37
the Children change throughout the the years.
05:39 - 05:43
Yeah. Um Why do we keep track of the lessons
05:43 - 05:45
learned? Well, you figure out what the deuce and don't
05:46 - 05:49
sar you just know don't do that again or?
05:49 - 05:51
Yeah, this this worked real well.
05:51 - 05:54
Let's continue to implement this plan like this.
05:54 - 05:57
Um You also get more ideas.
05:59 - 06:04
People um People say, Hey, instead of folding the papers
06:04 - 06:07
this way I folded in this way and it saved
06:07 - 06:10
me 10 seconds per mailing.
06:10 - 06:13
Um, so that would be a good thing to implement
06:13 - 06:16
for the rest of the people because that would save
06:16 - 06:18
you 10 seconds across the board.
06:19 - 06:19
All right.
06:20 - 06:21
Like I said, saved resources.
06:23 - 06:25
How do we keep track of lessons learned?
06:26 - 06:30
Um, just have a log a document that people just
06:30 - 06:36
say um, on July five I decided that folding the
06:36 - 06:39
envelope or folding the paper this way saved me 10
06:39 - 06:42
seconds. Um, and then they initial it and put it
06:42 - 06:45
away and then at the meeting, you guys pull that
06:45 - 06:46
out and you share that with everybody.
06:48 - 06:50
Another way to do that, If people would rather do
06:50 - 06:53
a search for anonymously, you can do it by survey
06:54 - 06:57
or email, but always have that line of communication open
06:57 - 07:01
with your project teams and customers because you just sharing
07:02 - 07:02
ideas is awesome.
07:03 - 07:04
Just a great way to do that.
07:05 - 07:11
Um, Sprint reviews in retrospect, this is a different way
07:11 - 07:16
to uh, to review how your program or project is
07:16 - 07:21
going. Um these are regular, they're part of the agile
07:21 - 07:26
process, um and they're often hands on for employees to
07:26 - 07:26
learn from.
07:28 - 07:29
I do like this way.
07:30 - 07:34
Um like I said, you get the employee input, you
07:35 - 07:39
have workshops, you sit down, you say, hey, this is
07:39 - 07:42
what's working for me, This is not what's working for
07:42 - 07:46
me and you work as a team to figure out
07:46 - 07:48
the best plan to fix it.
07:49 - 07:49
Just wonderful.
07:50 - 07:51
Wonderful way to do things.
07:53 - 07:58
Yeah. Um, so we're towards the end of our project,
07:59 - 08:00
so now it's time to finish up.
08:02 - 08:05
Yeah, let's talk about the feedback.
08:07 - 08:11
External feed pack is important regarding performance.
08:12 - 08:15
I know a lot of employees and team members get
08:16 - 08:19
a little antsy and nervous when it comes to this,
08:19 - 08:23
but you have to take this feedback and you've got
08:23 - 08:24
to use it to grow.
08:25 - 08:27
You can't take it to heart and take it as
08:28 - 08:30
they're insulting you because I'm sure there are great things
08:30 - 08:30
you're doing.
08:32 - 08:35
You just gotta take it and say, okay, I forgot
08:36 - 08:38
to seal the envelope this time.
08:38 - 08:42
So next time I'm going to double check and make
08:42 - 08:45
sure they still that envelope to help that process instead
08:46 - 08:49
of being hurt or upset me and they're mad at
08:49 - 08:51
me because I forgot to send that envelope, blah blah,
08:51 - 08:52
blah blah.
08:52 - 08:56
You need to take accountability and learn from your feedback
08:58 - 09:01
that it will only help you grow as a person.
09:09 - 09:12
Now that you've listened to your feedback from your clients,
09:13 - 09:16
it's time to finish up on the final report.
09:17 - 09:20
Um, like I said before, my project is ahead of
09:20 - 09:22
schedule, which is very unusual.
09:23 - 09:26
We just got lucky and what was able to purchase
09:26 - 09:30
and already built building as opposed to going from the
09:30 - 09:31
ground up.
09:32 - 09:42
Um, I'm overall the project has done substantially well.
09:43 - 09:46
We've received positive feedback from all the community members, business
09:47 - 09:52
owners, um, corporations, um, out of town people.
09:53 - 09:56
We even had a press report, which was pretty cool.
09:56 - 09:57
I didn't know that was gonna happen.
09:58 - 10:01
Um, I'm just really looking forward to being able to
10:02 - 10:05
open our program to the community within the next couple
10:06 - 10:10
of months and I appreciate your support along the way.
10:10 - 10:13
And I look forward to providing you with another update
10:13 - 10:13
in a couple weeks.
10:14 - 10:14
Thank you.
10:15 - 10:15
Bye.
