  1. Hi. Welcome to back to school night.
  2. And unfortunately, we have to do it virtually this year.
  3. I'd like to start with a prayer in the name
  4. of the father and the son.
  5. Well, he spirit.
  6. Amen. For you and your family, Um, asking for the
  7. intercession of the blessed mother to carry you all safely
  8. through our Covic crisis.
  9. And just to be with you, if you have any
  10. problems or anyone sick for any healing grace is that
  11. air needed, Um, just to ask for her intercession for
  12. your family and especially for your son or daughter.
  13. Hail Mary, Full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
  14. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit
  15. of thy womb, Jesus.
  16. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for our sinners now
  17. and at the hour of our death.
  18. Amen. Name of the father, son.
  19. Holy Spirit.
  20. Amen. So, first of all, I want to just share
  21. some contact information with you.
  22. Um, the best way to reach me is email.
  23. I'm on it all the time.
  24. So unless there's an emergency in my life, I should
  25. be checking it three or four times a day.
  26. So please email me at PGA newsy at Immaculata High
  27. School. Dr.
  28. Or with any?
  29. Any questions that you have.
  30. Okay. Immediately.
  31. Um, I also want to talk to you about resource
  32. is for the course faith and reason.
  33. Um, first of all, it's an exciting year because every
  34. student at Immaculata is receiving a personal Bible.
  35. And I'm sure your son or daughter has come out
  36. to ask you.
  37. Well, um, Mom, Dad, I need a $16 check made
  38. out to make a lot of high school.
  39. It's for a Bible.
  40. The Bible will be well used in my class on
  41. a daily basis.
  42. They will be annotating marking it up.
  43. Um, our hope is that they know the Bible is
  44. a place to go for encouragement and faith and is
  45. the divine word that could really let them know that
  46. they are loved by God, made by God and called
  47. by God to follow him.
  48. So we're really excited that every student is getting one,
  49. and we'll use it well throughout their four years of
  50. Immaculata. But even if their senior, they will definitely use
  51. it a lot in my class.
  52. So it's $16.
  53. It's a leather like Bible It's blue and this is
  54. not mandatory, but it's optional.
  55. We will collect them again.
  56. And for an additional $4 they could have the school
  57. seal and their name imprinted on the cover.
  58. That was the quote we were given.
  59. We have to send them out to Ohio.
  60. Um, it will take like a week.
  61. So I'm thinking around Christmas will collect the senior so
  62. they have them before they graduate, have the school seal
  63. on it.
  64. They'll be able to keep it for a lifetime and
  65. use it well.
  66. Also, um, they will be required to get a Gustines
  67. confession. ST.
  68. Augustine, one of the great great great doctors of the
  69. church, wrote a biography autobiography that is probably the first
  70. autobiography that we know of.
  71. And it is such a brilliant, beautiful piece of work
  72. and very good for a senior in high school to
  73. read, because Augustine takes a while to come to the
  74. faith. Um, he's a skeptic.
  75. We live in a skeptical culture, so it's very a
  76. great read, and they will be learning a lot about
  77. the process of conversion, about the big questions.
  78. It's okay to ask them and and how to dig
  79. deep and and answer them also another textbook, which is
  80. exceptional. It's the second edition.
  81. It's called Face Science and Reason.
  82. It's by published by Midwest Theological Forum.
  83. And phenomenal, because it really delves deep into do faith
  84. in science, relate well to each other.
  85. And yes, the answer is yes.
  86. The Catholic faith has done so much for science from
  87. the Big Bang, too many, many, many other scientists that
  88. have really help to develop, um, science through a faithful
  89. perspective. So we're going to really dig into that because
  90. sometimes people think, oh, sciences disprove God nonsense.
  91. Um, and we'll talk about that.
  92. Okay, other resource is, um, at at the school.
  93. Um, what I want you to recognize is we have
  94. great resource is First of all, my website will list
  95. many of these additional Resource is from videos on from
  96. Bishop Baron to form dot or GE.
  97. Many, many resource is that I'll be using in class.
  98. I'll be using a lot of the great teachers Bishop
  99. Fulton Machine and I too numerous to mention, but they
  100. will hear from a lot of voices.
  101. It's not just misses Gen.
  102. Uzi teaching this, but especially from the voice of God
  103. as they dig into Scripture.
  104. Now, um, what are the goals for the year?
  105. Well, the goals for the year are to understand our
  106. faith in Jesus Christ and to be able to share
  107. that faith with conviction and charity.
  108. So as much as I want them filled with the
  109. Holy Spirit and be able to with conviction, explain who
  110. they are and who God is.
  111. Um, how to do that with charity is very important
  112. in this day and age, um, to recognize that prayer
  113. with sacred scripture is essential in order to be filled
  114. with the Holy Spirit, to explain the faith and to
  115. also recognize that regular reception of the sacraments is key,
  116. especially the Eucharist and confession, um, to keep our soul
  117. in shape and to really, um, no God, no God
  118. intimately. And to be able to share God and Jesus
  119. intimately with others.
  120. What are the goals for the class?
  121. Well, we're gonna do some gift discernment, and I'm going
  122. to help them, um, kind of reveal their gifts and
  123. then and talents, and then to be able to build
  124. a loving community amidst cove it, um, and to share
  125. their faith with comfort in the class so that it
  126. is a class where they could share the faith with
  127. ease and without fear.
  128. Student goals.
  129. Um, I'm going to assess differently this year.
  130. There they are going to need Thio dig deep into
  131. what their gifts are and choose projects according to their
  132. gifts. And then they will be assessed by taking the
  133. content that I have taught in class that they've read
  134. in class and applying it, using their gifts to several
  135. different kinds of projects, um, artistic projects as well as
  136. research projects as well as writing projects.
  137. A ZX well speaking projects So they'll use their gifts
  138. in many ways and, um, again share them.
  139. So we're building them up to be evangelize er's with
  140. the gifts that God has given them our academic goals
  141. or to ask and answer the big questions.
  142. Who am I?
  143. Who is God?
  144. Where did I come from?
  145. Where am I going?
  146. Who is Jesus Christ?
  147. What is the task of Christian apologetics, which is to
  148. defend the faith or explain the faith?
  149. But we should do this with gentleness.
  150. As first letter of Peter Chapter three, Verse 15 asks
  151. us, and then we're really going to delve in again.
  152. Toe. How does our faith in science relate to each
  153. other? How do they complement each other and how they're
  154. not enemies, but actually, partners for the truth.
  155. All of that.
  156. So please email me with any questions.
  157. I am so grateful there with me in class, and
  158. we're going to make a great year of it.
  159. God bless you.
