00:00 - 00:02
Hi my name is Tara Wells.
00:02 - 00:07
And in today's video I will be explaining my degree plan and career path to you guys.
00:07 - 00:11
So I am currently a freshman here at T. S. U.
00:11 - 00:16
My major is pre nursing which falls under the biology compartment.
00:16 - 00:21
And yeah I'm gonna tell you guys a little bit about that and
00:21 - 00:27
the skills needed as well as education in order to pursue my goals.
00:27 - 00:28
So
00:29 - 00:32
for most people who don't know biology can be
00:32 - 00:35
defined as the study of life and organisms.
00:35 - 00:35
Um
00:36 - 00:39
Biology as a field has helped us understand
00:40 - 00:45
in depth about the living organisms around us and their environments.
00:45 - 00:50
Um has contributed heavily to the investment of modern day medicine,
00:50 - 00:52
agriculture and bio type biology.
00:52 - 00:55
Through this field we are able to bring about
00:55 - 01:00
major advancements in the everyday quality of life.
01:01 - 01:06
So some of the degree plans offered here at T. S. U. R. A.
01:06 - 01:11
Bachelor of Science and Biology. Bachelor of Science um and Biology.
01:11 - 01:12
Pre health concentration,
01:12 - 01:17
Bachelor of Science degree and Geographic information Systems and a
01:17 - 01:21
two year nursing curriculum which is my current pathway,
01:23 - 01:25
the historical foundation of Biology.
01:25 - 01:30
So biology was founded by Aristotle back in 34 Bc.
01:31 - 01:36
Before Aristotle's theory was supported um There were other scientists who
01:36 - 01:41
had theories but it was never fully supported by scientific evidence.
01:41 - 01:42
So
01:43 - 01:46
um Aristotle was able to come up about coming
01:47 - 01:50
up with the theory of life through various
01:50 - 01:53
experiments that he performed in the wild and now
01:53 - 01:58
due to the experience experiments we have the basis of biology that we use for today.
02:00 - 02:04
Um current and future contributions to biology.
02:04 - 02:10
Um the history of biology goes as far as far back as 384 you see.
02:10 - 02:15
Many scientists have had theories of life but as I said before,
02:15 - 02:16
they were never fully supported.
02:18 - 02:22
Um Due to Aristotle's discoveries, discoveries,
02:22 - 02:25
we pretty much have everything we need to know biology but
02:25 - 02:29
I do believe there's always work for growth of future contribution.
02:29 - 02:30
That I think would be pretty cool.
02:30 - 02:37
Is a creator is um creating new medicines for mental mental health patients.
02:38 - 02:45
You know a medicine that can help ease their hysteria without causing them stress.
02:54 - 02:55
Um So as I said before,
02:55 - 02:57
we are also going to talk about my career path
02:57 - 02:59
and what I'm gonna be using my degree for.
02:59 - 03:05
I plan on transferring to nursing school after I finished my two year degree plan
03:05 - 03:11
here and after I finished nursing school I plan on becoming a dermatology nurse.
03:11 - 03:14
So for the next slide we're gonna talk about the
03:14 - 03:18
skills needed in order to become a dermatology nurse.
03:19 - 03:21
Um So in order to become a dermatology nurse there's
03:21 - 03:24
a certain set of skills that one must obtain.
03:24 - 03:28
Um the most important skill to have all its business skills.
03:28 - 03:31
The patients may already be nervous. You know whenever they come into the clinic.
03:31 - 03:34
So it's very important that you listen to them and
03:34 - 03:37
you pay attention to what they're telling me about the
03:37 - 03:39
skin conditions that you will be dealing with because it
03:39 - 03:42
can really help you assess and diagnose the problem.
03:44 - 03:47
Another good skills observation of course because you have to be able
03:47 - 03:51
to identify and diagnose the skin disease that you are working with.
03:52 - 03:53
Mhm.
03:53 - 03:56
And just having periods background knowledge and a college education
03:56 - 03:59
is very important when it comes to any nursing career.
03:59 - 04:01
Not just dermatology.
04:06 - 04:09
The education needed to be a dermatology nurse
04:09 - 04:10
in order to become a dermatology nurse.
04:10 - 04:13
Of course you have to attend a three year
04:13 - 04:17
accredited college and get your prerequisites of the way.
04:17 - 04:22
You can also take the route that I am taking and do your prerequisites at college,
04:22 - 04:24
a community college or here at T.
04:24 - 04:26
S. U. And then transfer the nursing school.
04:26 - 04:31
But it's also easier if you wanted to to get a four year degree and then transfer to
04:32 - 04:33
nursing school.
04:34 - 04:36
Once you have got your associates or bachelor's degree you
04:36 - 04:38
will live up to nursing school for four years.
04:38 - 04:44
And after nursing school you will be required to take the R. C. O. E. X.
04:44 - 04:48
Which is the registered nursing um test that get you registered
04:48 - 04:51
with the state of texas or whatever state you plan on
04:52 - 04:53
working in.
04:54 - 04:56
And since I want to become a dermatology nurse I
04:56 - 04:59
will also have to take an extra step of getting certified
05:00 - 05:05
a dermatologist certification. Which which opens up every two years.
05:05 - 05:08
And after that I will be able I will be able to
05:08 - 05:13
gain experience in an actual clinic and start working at the clinic.
05:15 - 05:19
The duties needed to be a dermatologist nurse um You
05:19 - 05:23
have to be able to assist and recognize skin problems,
05:23 - 05:26
monitor patient medical histories, uh
05:30 - 05:33
record and record test results,
05:33 - 05:35
explain the test results to the patients
05:35 - 05:40
help the dermatologist with procedures because sometimes as
05:40 - 05:42
a nurse practitioner you are licensed to
05:42 - 05:46
perform certain procedures on the patient's also um
05:48 - 05:52
And that's pretty much all the duties of the nurse practitioner,
05:52 - 05:54
dermatology nurse practitioner.
05:54 - 05:58
Next we will talk about the salary of a dermatologist nurse practitioner.
05:58 - 06:02
So on average dermatology nurses make around 80,000
06:03 - 06:08
88,160 year which is around $39 per hour
06:08 - 06:12
according to the brew of labor labor statistics.
06:13 - 06:15
The nurses are estimated to make a whopping
06:15 - 06:18
132,000 on average in the upcoming years.
06:18 - 06:21
Um Nursing is a degree plan that is very,
06:21 - 06:25
nursing is a career that is very high demand at the moment.
06:25 - 06:29
So of course it's gonna see an incline in salary over a few years
06:30 - 06:31
And last but not least.
06:31 - 06:34
We're gonna talk about my outlook after doing my research,
06:34 - 06:38
I am actually excited to step into my career.
06:38 - 06:40
It's something I'm very passionate about.
06:40 - 06:43
I've been passionate about skin care since I was 17 years old.
06:43 - 06:47
So before even doing the research already. But this was going to do.
06:47 - 06:51
But this is what I wanted to do. This kind of confirmed it for me. Um
06:52 - 06:56
And yeah I hope you guys are doing my presentation and
06:57 - 06:58
bye.
