  1. Hi, everyone.
  2. Over the last few weeks I've been researching continuous course
  3. improvement, and I found that one of the most meaningful
  4. methods for improving, of course, is to gather meaningful input
  5. from students.
  6. As we were close to the end, the first market
  7. period, I thought you may find it helpful to administer
  8. and in the market period survey to your students.
  9. Honestly, this type of student feedback would be gathered at
  10. the end of the course.
  11. Usually, however, I think there's value to each of you
  12. having this feedback sooner as we prepare for market periods,
  13. too. This presentation is going to give you a few
  14. best practices when it comes to designing course evaluation questions
  15. and achieving ah, high response rate.
  16. Here are a few research based practices for a successful
  17. student evaluation.
  18. First, you could gather quality feedback at a higher rate
  19. if you discuss the purpose and importance evaluation the week
  20. or weeks leading up to it.
  21. Also, if students know that you will seriously consider their
  22. feedback, there will be much more likely to complete your
  23. evaluation. It would be important to give students time to
  24. complete this evaluation during class, maybe just 10 to 15
  25. minutes. You may also find it helpful to provide a
  26. small incentive for having your classes complete evaluation.
  27. This could be something simple, like giving them bonus points
  28. or making the evaluation a small five point assessment.
  29. I know we've tried to make our grades and two
  30. reflections student learning, but I think something like this carries
  31. a lot of value and will be worth.
  32. While I played around with a few ways to create
  33. an and, of course, evaluation and for me, ah, Google
  34. form was the most user friendly method.
  35. But there are other methods out there as well.
  36. When developing your questions, be sure to guy students the
  37. specific type of feedback you're looking for.
  38. Ask them specific questions.
  39. Instead of asking how useful were the instructional materials activities
  40. for this course?
  41. Maybe focus on a specific material or a specific activity.
  42. Avoid asking yes or no questions.
  43. Oftentimes they could be leading instead of asking.
  44. Did you learn a great amount from this course?
  45. A better question could be to what extent do you
  46. feel you master the content in this course I would
  47. encourage you provide space for both closed and open ended
  48. questions asking.
  49. Opening the questions can help you gain insight you may
  50. not otherwise receive.
  51. Yeah, questions you develop are probably gonna fit into one
  52. of these categories.
  53. Teacher specific questions.
  54. These were things like asking for feedback regarding delivery teaching
  55. methods, your course clarity, course materials, engagement and involvement, Course
  56. structure, student learning and in general and overall questions, I'm
  57. gonna be emailing you.
  58. Ah, list of example questions for each of these categories
  59. I think you might find helpful.
  60. So for collaboration time today, what I'm gonna ask you
  61. to dio is either with a partner or a group
  62. or if you prefer to work on your own, that's
  63. okay too.
  64. Spend some time thinking about student evaluations for your course.
  65. What type of feedback would you find helpful?
  66. How could use this feedback to design a structure for
  67. market period, too?
  68. We will not be checking on you.
  69. This is truly for your growth on for your continuous
  70. improvement. Thanks for all you're doing.
  71. Have a great afternoon
