Hello. My name is Mesa. And here I'm going to be presenting
00:06 - 00:09
my Queer studies final portfolio.
00:09 - 00:12
It is titled Say Her Name. And it highlights
00:13 - 00:17
the stories and experiences of transgender and trans feminine
00:17 - 00:20
individuals throughout history and into the present.
00:21 - 00:24
The first section of my portfolio
00:24 - 00:26
is a presentation on Presi
00:27 - 00:29
and it goes through the history.
00:29 - 00:30
Um, just a brief,
00:30 - 00:35
a brief history on transgender rights experiences
00:35 - 00:40
and influential women and individuals um,
00:40 - 00:45
in our history that kind of created the Foundation for the queer movement.
00:46 - 00:51
The second part is a piece of art that I created that I will share eventually.
00:51 - 00:53
Um,
00:53 - 00:55
and then a poem that goes along with it honoring
00:55 - 00:59
the lives of three transgender women who were murdered.
00:59 - 01:02
Um, and you will see as I go on,
01:02 - 01:07
there will be more links to videos within the document that I
01:07 - 01:12
share here that will bring you to the sharing of those pieces.
01:13 - 01:19
The purpose of this project is to remember to remember the faces,
01:19 - 01:21
to remember the stories,
01:21 - 01:25
to remember the names to realign with what's actually true with what's actually
01:25 - 01:30
going on in our world and what has been going on throughout history
01:31 - 01:32
to inspire
01:33 - 01:35
and to call for change.
01:36 - 01:37
So much of this.
01:37 - 01:41
So many of these individuals, so many of these names have been overlooked
01:42 - 01:44
have not been spoken to,
01:45 - 01:46
have not been
01:46 - 01:51
honored in the way that they should in the lives that they were.
01:51 - 01:56
So here I call for these names to be heard for research to be done for
01:56 - 02:00
movements to come into action so that we
02:00 - 02:03
can actually change and fight for these rights.
02:05 - 02:06
The audience
02:06 - 02:13
of this project here is anyone and everyone who wants to receive.
02:13 - 02:22
I am moving within the context of wanting to inspire individuals through beauty,
02:22 - 02:24
through art
02:24 - 02:26
and through action
02:27 - 02:31
and by putting these experiences onto paper.
02:31 - 02:36
I hope that you feel moved enough to deepen into your
02:36 - 02:39
your own understanding of it all as well
02:39 - 02:42
and to remember to remember to remember
02:44 - 02:52
in the context of this project is throughout history, at least in the beginning,
02:52 - 02:57
the presentation goes through some history, goes through some present, present
02:57 - 02:59
political um
03:00 - 03:03
experiences and strife.
03:03 - 03:08
And it's so ongoing. It's so ongoing.
03:08 - 03:15
Everything that affects transgender women in the present, um, and then
03:16 - 03:21
going into lives that have been lost and creating art out of
03:21 - 03:27
that so that we can move with inspiration and honoring and reverence for
03:27 - 03:33
these individuals. So I hope you enjoy and feel moved as we dive in.
03:34 - 03:35
Thank you.
