  1. Yeah this is James Dixon, my um great grandfather who
  2. was born in Scotland and he immigrated to New Zealand
  3. with his mother in a ship.
  4. His dad who was a market gardener.
  5. He came early to get a job.
  6. It took him about three months to sell to New
  7. Zealand. Jim grew up in Dunedin and he was The
  8. oldest of nine brothers.
  9. He wasn't brought up in a Christian home.
  10. Um So he taught the rest of his family about
  11. God and that's how he started to get our family
  12. to follow God.
  13. He joined the army for World War and he did
  14. the training in New Zealand before, but before he was
  15. deployed to the war, the war ended so he didn't
  16. need to fight soon after he got married and he
  17. had two Children, a boy and a girl when they
  18. were newly married they went to the Solomon Island is
  19. missionaries and he was a teacher on the mission field.
  20. After a few years his family came back to New
  21. Zealand and he stayed in the Solomon Islands for another
  22. year. Then he became a teacher in Timaru where his
  23. Children grew up.
  24. Jim's wife, Alba Hopkins died In the late 70s and
  25. in the early 1800s of 1980s he did away um
  26. course and met his second wife, Marie, Christine uh Jim
  27. and Marie went to Hong kong together Uh and China
  28. as missionaries and teachers of English in the 1980s.
  29. Uh He then returned to to put the New Zealand
  30. in the North Island and lived there for a while.
  31. Having retired.
  32. He was a king Gardner and would have done it
  33. all the time.
  34. It was his passion and it was always had to
  35. be up to as high standards.
  36. Later in the 1990s they went to Turkey as missionary
  37. teachers, but they had to return to New Zealand um
  38. where they moved to Liston and lived until Very recently.
  39. He died in April 2018.
  40. Jim is survived by his second wife, two brothers and
  41. his Children and grandchildren.
  42. Uh This is my dad and my uncle, my grandparents.
  43. And you can see Jim in the back with Marie
  44. Christine Um the Scott family talk about an ancestor called
  45. Henry Scott.
  46. He was born 1830.
  47. He got drunk, very drunk that he drowned in a
  48. horse trough, which is a true story.
  49. And the father of him, George Augustus Scott died one
  50. April 1915, Anna del New South Wales Walter.
  51. Henry Scott was born in 1910 in Sydney and he
  52. was a communist.
  53. He agreed with a lot of the rules.
  54. He joined the party And without knowing he was stalked
  55. by their spies who wrote down everything about him and
  56. they gathered all this information.
  57. But he was blind in both eyes.
  58. And you didn't know about the spies until a long
  59. time after he left the party in his late 60s
  60. when his friends found out from one of them who
  61. he knew the other story is that the scott brothers
  62. owned a lot of property in central Melbourne, including the
  63. Scott Hotel and that they lost it or gambling.
  64. Also told that one or two of them went to
  65. South Africa and made a lot of money and either
  66. a diamond or gold mine.

  69. Yeah. uh late 1800s was when we first started living
  70. in white pro, my Great great great great grandfather started
  71. a farm up north.
  72. He started a farm which was really small.
  73. At first he got married at 19 while his wife
  74. was 20, that five boys, one girl and lived in
  75. the farm their whole life.
  76. One of the boys took over that farm when their
  77. parents sadly passed away when he was studying, he took
  78. care of the farm with his girlfriend, heard there are
  79. three boys and three girls together.
  80. He passed Um one of the, He passed the five
  81. down to one of the girls named Margaret who was
  82. my great grandmother at this point it was getting rough
  83. and messy and they needed to fix it.
  84. So she knocked down the house and built a new
  85. one that was even more bigger.
  86. She got new fencing, more animals and brought some more
  87. land as well.
  88. She was very wealthy at the time.
  89. She then met her husband thomas, my great grandfather uh
  90. they worked on the farm for many years, then got
  91. too old to take care of it.
  92. My grandparents said that they would take care of it.
  93. So they did um It's now a huge and they
  94. have made a vineyard in it as well.
  95. My family spends a lot of the time, they're especially
  96. at christmas and the holidays.
  97. Ah Our family has always been really close from my
  98. great great grandparents to my mom and dad and it
  99. has led us to follow God and we're really close
  100. now. So um basically you can see him in the
  101. photo with the sheep and he's guarding over there as
  102. well last year.
