00:02 - 00:07
Hello. My name is Diana Bradley. And this is my career portfolio presentation.
00:08 - 00:11
Um So my focus to assessment interests that
00:11 - 00:15
I focused on were work personality skills and value
00:15 - 00:20
for work. I was given artistic and surprising and social
00:20 - 00:23
for artistic. We are considered the creators.
00:23 - 00:26
We prefer to be expressive, create new ideas,
00:26 - 00:30
create new things, enjoy writing poetry and photography.
00:30 - 00:32
For enterprising.
00:32 - 00:37
We are the persuaders we enjoy selling promoting leading groups, giving talks
00:37 - 00:39
and then definitely enjoying
00:39 - 00:43
influencing others and being in leadership roles
00:43 - 00:46
for social. We are the helpers. We prefer working with others.
00:46 - 00:49
Although we are capable of working with ourselves.
00:49 - 00:52
We definitely enjoyed teaching, caring for others, volunteering,
00:52 - 00:53
meeting new people.
00:53 - 00:54
Which I love to do.
00:55 - 00:59
We're highly verbal. We get along in groups and we are extremely understanding
01:02 - 01:07
personality. We focus attention on the exploration of new ideas.
01:07 - 01:11
Um Again, we love to be creative and find new ways to do things.
01:11 - 01:13
Um We are open minded, flexible, committed,
01:13 - 01:16
enthusiastic and definitely spontaneous.
01:16 - 01:16
Which I am
01:18 - 01:20
for values. We love creating
01:21 - 01:23
income is definitely a value
01:24 - 01:26
for pretty much anybody.
01:26 - 01:30
Um You know just making money and being happy helping others. I love helping others.
01:30 - 01:34
I love volunteering. Um Just making somebody feel good.
01:34 - 01:38
Um And helping somebody succeed in their own life is something I love to do
01:39 - 01:45
for skills. Again, helping We love helping listening is a major major thing for me.
01:45 - 01:46
Um
01:47 - 01:48
A lot of people come to me
01:49 - 01:50
with problems
01:51 - 01:51
and
01:52 - 01:53
I try to help them solve them.
01:54 - 01:54
Mm hmm.
01:57 - 02:00
So for career options given the entire list
02:00 - 02:03
I got weren't really things that interested me.
02:03 - 02:07
Um, and a lot of them weren't really narrowed down to anything too specific.
02:08 - 02:12
So I decided that I was going to focus on social work,
02:12 - 02:17
which actually was my major prior to the surgical tech that I have now.
02:18 - 02:19
Um,
02:19 - 02:22
Social workers are trained professionals devoted to helping vulnerable
02:22 - 02:25
people and communities work through everyday challenges in life.
02:25 - 02:29
Their goals and commitments are to advocate and improve lives of families,
02:29 - 02:31
individuals, groups and societies,
02:32 - 02:35
Salary and projected growth as of right now.
02:35 - 02:40
The nationwide average for social work is about 53,000 a year for Connecticut.
02:40 - 02:45
It's around 51. Um, you know, fluctuating back and forth.
02:45 - 02:47
The projected growth is 12%.
02:47 - 02:54
Um, and that's from 2020 to 2030 with about 78,000 openings yearly.
02:54 - 02:57
And this is a current job listening for social worker.
02:57 - 03:02
Um actually a program coordinator and this is in Newington and it's
03:02 - 03:07
showing um higher average actually about 88,000 a year to 1:15,
03:07 - 03:08
which is amazing.
03:09 - 03:12
And if you need help for school for college,
03:12 - 03:14
um, there's definitely free money out there.
03:14 - 03:20
Um, scholarships are one of the major things I'm always looking out for MCC um,
03:20 - 03:21
have scholarships.
03:21 - 03:26
They also email um, letting students know about other scholarships out there.
03:26 - 03:27
Like the Chelsea
03:27 - 03:30
Chelsea is one of the ones that have helped me out in the past.
03:34 - 03:38
And um, there are different job opportunities you can do with social work.
03:38 - 03:40
It doesn't have to be um
03:41 - 03:45
kind of what you think, where they just go and knock on people's doors when there is
03:46 - 03:50
a um I guess a complaint put in about a family.
03:50 - 03:55
You can be a therapist, a counselor, you can work in a school field,
03:55 - 03:58
hospice social worker, human services specialist.
03:58 - 04:03
You can either work, you can even work in probation and substance abuse counseling.
04:03 - 04:07
There's so many different options and venues you can work at
04:08 - 04:10
um with a degree in social work
04:10 - 04:15
for skills um definitely have to be empathetic um have organization, skills,
04:15 - 04:18
communication, problem solving and def definite patients,
04:18 - 04:21
social workers go above and beyond to help people in need.
04:21 - 04:22
They stand up for human rights,
04:22 - 04:26
social injustices and strengthen individual communities,
04:26 - 04:28
thus giving a voice to the unheard
04:30 - 04:35
for education. Schooling requirements are definitely um
04:35 - 04:39
you can get a social work and associates in social work
04:39 - 04:44
but most places are looking for a minimum bachelor's or master's.
04:45 - 04:50
Um It has to be from an accredited program like CCS. You Goodwin E. C. S. U.
04:50 - 04:51
Um Our Sacred Heart,
04:52 - 04:56
you also need supervised fieldwork or an internship and have to be licensed.
04:57 - 04:57
Mhm.
05:01 - 05:04
If you need more info, if this is definitely a field that interests you,
05:04 - 05:07
you can reach out to Joanna White um at MCC who is
05:07 - 05:11
the assistant professor and program coordinator for human and social services.
05:11 - 05:13

05:13 - 05:14
She's really great,
05:14 - 05:19
she has all the information you can need and can answer any questions you have.
05:19 - 05:22
