  1. even though we were able to implement the apps that
  2. you just saw in the demo, we did have some
  3. challenges along the way.
  4. In particular.
  5. We had four challenges, but we were able to solve
  6. each and every one of them first we have a
  7. problem with visualizing the data.
  8. So in the fall semester, when were originally researching the
  9. software's, we didn't really find one that would be able
  10. to take all of the data that we would be
  11. given and make sure that it would display properly.
  12. But then in the beginning of the semester of the
  13. spring we were able to find a software called that
  14. was able to visualize the data exactly how we wanted
  15. it to.
  16. Up next we had the AWS lambda has a six
  17. megabyte max and most of the files that are going
  18. to pass in our program are 20 to 30 megabytes.
  19. So we kind of had a problem and we need
  20. to figure out a way to pass smaller chunks.
  21. So originally we were going to limit the user to
  22. an 800 km radius.
  23. But then we thought that was counterintuitive, since our apps
  24. should be able to allow the user just like any
  25. area. So instead we decided to implement a layered approach.
  26. So we're going to start off with a small circle
  27. and then we're going to keep analyzing the circles until
  28. we get to the user selected size and then some
  29. ate all the circles together to get the whole circle
  30. together. Next we have a similar problem, but this was
  31. with the Api Gateway timing out so after 30 seconds
  32. of transferring the information that api gateway would time out.
  33. So we had to find a way to transport less
  34. information. So we're gonna separate the variables in the front
  35. and back.
  36. And we're going to do a layered approach for the
  37. front and then do a layered approach for the second
  38. part and emerge them together at the end.
  39. The next challenge we had was getting data from the
  40. clients. So as science is always evolving and we learn
  41. new material.
  42. We realize that the Mattingly model is incomplete, that at
  43. the moment because the information is not available yet.
  44. So it's important for us to be able to allow
  45. the user to select this in the future.
  46. Next we have our schedule in the fall, we were
  47. focusing on mainly the requirements and a lot of the
  48. logistical stuff.
  49. So as you can see in the beginning, we did
  50. team standards.
  51. Then we did possible software as there's a lot of
  52. different software possibilities that we could have selected.
  53. And it was important to narrow down once it would
  54. work best for us and then we have requirements acquisition.
  55. So with the client, we focused on the main parts
  56. of what they want in the finished product.
  57. And then we have a technical demo that implemented all
  58. the software that we researched before.
  59. Next we have the spring schedule.
  60. So on the top in the gray and the light
  61. blue, you can see some front end components that we
  62. completed at the beginning and then the back end components
  63. and then in purple are some also front end components.
  64. And then we're currently testing our application as well, writing
  65. them and then based on some testing we did I
  66. want to highlight that.
  67. We did implement a large radius warning so once it
  68. goes over large radius it might take longer and the
  69. user needs to know that.
  70. Then we add a description for the results variables.
  71. And we are currently finishing up on notifying user when
  72. no data exists.
  73. So next we have our testing.
  74. It was important that we were able to test our
  75. app in particular.
  76. We have three main three main goals.
  77. Unit testing, integration testing and user testing.
  78. So the unit testing is the foundation of our testing
  79. because it focuses on the individual components.
  80. And in order for us to move on the integration
  81. testing, we need to make sure that they work by
  82. themselves. Then we take the integration and we make sure
  83. that they all work together seamlessly.
  84. And then finally, if all that works out, then we
  85. give it to the user to see if they can
  86. use the app properly.
  87. So for our project in particular for unit testing, we
  88. have the AWS S three buckets that's going to store
  89. our information.
  90. We need to make sure it stores it properly and
  91. the API gateway, we need to make sure that it
  92. can transfer the information from the front end to the
  93. back end properly.
  94. And then the google maps ap can properly select to
  95. get the users selected location.
  96. Next we have integration testing.
  97. So in the like green up here you can see
  98. that one of them is to make sure that the
  99. Api gateway can get the information, send the information to
  100. the back end and then the back end can properly
  101. send it and retrieve the information to the Api gateway.
  102. And then in the bottom light blue you can see
  103. the google maps needs to properly send the selected coordinates
  104. to the back end.
  105. And then, as I was mentioning earlier usability testing, it's
  106. important for different users outside of our group to be
  107. able to use our app without running into errors.
  108. In particular, we had two scientists groups, three general user
  109. groups and one policymaker who were able to test their
  110. app. So in the future, since we have a pretty
  111. working app, we, as we mentioned in the challenges section,
  112. it's important for us to be able to implement new
  113. scenarios as a science progresses.
  114. And then in addition, a lot of the information of
  115. our app is focused on areas in the tropics.
  116. So, for example, in Africa and south America.
  117. So it can be able very important for us to
  118. reach these audiences.
  119. We need to make sure that it's in their languages.
  120. So we already have support for french and spanish but
  121. maybe adding Portuguese or german will be important in the
  122. future.
