  1. Good morning teacher and staff of the Kama international School.
  2. It is indeed a great privilege for me to be
  3. invited by Chaplin Asia to stop to speak to you
  4. for this morning worship morning devotion.
  5. And I remember my time over there to teach for
  6. two years that every morning 6:30 a.m. We had a
  7. very nice time to learn the bible together and to
  8. praise God through our morning worship.
  9. So before we begin let's pray together.
  10. Forget didn't happen.
  11. Thank you so much for this opportunity to be here
  12. to worship you.
  13. To listen to your words maybe eliminates your spirit so
  14. that you can understand your words to us in the
  15. semi plain and okay this morning I would like to
  16. share to use short message entitled closer than a brother
  17. as you all know your sister uh institution, the ASia
  18. Pacific International University.
  19. Here we train young people for this world and also
  20. for the world to come and people came from different
  21. parts of the world and I can see that a
  22. very colorful friendships that were happening in this university.
  23. And of course I believe many of you, all of
  24. you experienced during your youthful days.
  25. Friendship is a very important aspect in our life.
  26. That's why many times after graduation people would come back
  27. to the reunions.
  28. This is a picture of me with my friends.
  29. We have a reunion 2000, Many people went there just
  30. to celebrate their friendship and also the to reminisce the
  31. memories. And also of course weddings would be the time
  32. where people would gather from different parts of the world.
  33. Before COVID-19 people would just fly to attend their friends
  34. weddings. Now the scriptures speak much to us about friendship
  35. and actually the subject of friendship is given a high
  36. priority in the bible.
  37. But the bible also warned us about evil friendship James
  38. Forbes forces.
  39. He will, will be the friend of the world, is
  40. the enemy of God.
  41. Very strong and very important.
  42. We can see it proverbs 1824, a man who has
  43. friends must himself be friendly.
  44. But there is a friend whose ex closer than a
  45. brother. So if you look at this text, there is
  46. a very important point that King Solomon wants us to
  47. know that King Solomon here recommends friendship to us and
  48. shows what we must do, that we may born and
  49. cultivate friendship the first one and the most important one.
  50. We must show ourselves friendly.
  51. This one of the greatest versed on the subject friendship
  52. and it makes two vital points.
  53. Number one.
  54. First to have friends.
  55. We must be friendly.
  56. In other words, the secret to meaningful relationships is not
  57. found in seeking France, but in being a friend many
  58. times would like to see what others will do first.
  59. But actually here in the bible proverbs, the book of
  60. proverbs that we need to be friendly first.
  61. We need to be ready to be a friend of
  62. someone else.
  63. The second one is an ultimate friend for each one
  64. of us, a friend who is closer than a brother,
  65. a friend who is truly interested in us with no
  66. thought of what's in it for him.
  67. This one, I will elaborate much later.
  68. Now in the bible you can see an example of
  69. good friendship between David and Jonathan.
  70. Yeah, we know that general Swatter was King Saul, the
  71. king of Israel that time.
  72. So in spite of Jordan's father, King Saul's pursuit of
  73. David and attempts to kill David, Jonathan stood by his
  74. friends. We can see that story in 1st Samuel chapter
  75. 18 through Chapter 20.
  76. So these two men truly cared for each other and
  77. have great trust and confidence in each other.
  78. So David was running for his life from Jonathan's father
  79. saw and Jonathan recognized that David was innocent.
  80. So because of this true friendship that they shared, David
  81. survived salt assassination attempts and went on to become one
  82. of Israel's greatest.
  83. No, we can see that in the book of proverbs.
  84. Some uh instructions also advises about friendship Problems.
  85. That was 24.
  86. Again, I would like to say a man of many
  87. companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend
  88. who sticks closer than a brother.
  89. Probably 27 were success wounds from a friend can be
  90. trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.
  91. Now, another example about friendship, but actually it's, our brotherhood
  92. is between Jacob and Esau the bible gives us the
  93. example of Jacob and S.
  94. O. And they were actually twin brothers.
  95. Yet they were not close spiritually.
  96. They were also very different, totally different when it speaks
  97. here of a broader it is referring to the highest
  98. affection which known among men the faction of physical brother
  99. to his physical brother under the blessing of God.
  100. That is a very intimate type.
  101. But this needs the grace of God and the cultivating
  102. of the word of God because that is not always
  103. so sometimes physical brothers can be opposite and they can
  104. be so different.
  105. But yet it is true that between one's physical brother
  106. sister can exist most intimate bond and a time like
  107. I can testify that my relationship with my brother is
  108. a very close and intimate time and I'm very blessed
  109. to have my brother that God gave to me and
  110. to my family.
  111. So there's nothing so precious as to love your flesh
  112. and blood, broader our system to share each other's feelings
  113. and to support want another.
  114. So what is through friendship?
  115. Through friendship stories are found throughout the bible.
  116. We can see that in genesis 18 verse 17 to
  117. 33. Here we read about God sharing his intentions with
  118. Abraham. Abraham responds by telling God his thoughts and feelings
  119. about the situation.
  120. Can you imagine God telling human beings about his thoughts
  121. and feelings about certain she's doing?
  122. Next example is about God and moses In Exodus 33
  123. 11. The Bible says the Lord would speak to moses
  124. face to face as a man speaks with his friend.
  125. This is what the bible said.
  126. Brothers and sisters in the price that he would speak
  127. to moses face to face as a man speaks with
  128. his friend.
  129. So God spoke to moses like a friend, directly face
  130. to face.
  131. It is more like a meeting a person as being
  132. directly instead of talking over the phone.
  133. If you therefore spend time with God through prayer and
  134. walk according to his word, he will talk with us
  135. and lead us.
  136. My head Now in John 15 were starting to 15,
  137. it says greater love has no one than this to
  138. lay down one's life for one's friends, you are my
  139. friends. If you do what I command, I no longer
  140. call you servants because the servant does not know his
  141. master's business.
  142. Instead, I have called you friends for everything that I
  143. learned from my father, I have made known to you.
  144. And in romans eight verse 35 the bible says who
  145. shall separate us from the love of christ, shall tribulation
  146. or distress, for I am persuaded that nothing can separate
  147. us from the love of God.
  148. In christ jesus our Lord, this is what the bible
  149. said Brexit is in christ, nothing can separate us from
  150. christ, jesus.
  151. And indeed Jesus christ is the unique friends.
  152. Jesus christ is the friend that sticks closer than a
  153. broader and Jesus himself identifies himself as the friend of
  154. God's people.
  155. This is amazing, Jesus christ, the savior of the world,
  156. identifies himself as our friend.
  157. That's why in Matthew 1119 it says that Jesus is
  158. the friend, that's the explosion than a brother and also
  159. was classified by his enemies.
  160. His enemies identified jesus as our friend when observing his
  161. mingling with his people whom he had come to come
  162. to repentance and seeing that he was unafraid to associate
  163. himself with them, they said democracy.
  164. He is a friend of publicans and sinners.
  165. Now, if you look at the word sticks, the word
  166. stakes is literally cliff or appear.
  167. It refers to the soldering of metals, of joining metals
  168. together. Those who love this stuff would know that when
  169. you soldier in a matter of metal with another metal
  170. that it was thick and would be very hard to
  171. remove. So Jesus Christ is the one who sticks, who
  172. is fatal.
  173. His Children, he described the friend was closer than any
  174. brother. He was our friend, to stand in our place
  175. and to die for us.
  176. That is why joseph M Scriven wrote this poem.
  177. What a friend we have in jesus, all our sins,
  178. our griefs to bear.
  179. What a privilege to carry a return to God in
  180. prayer. What peace we often forfeit while needless pain repair
  181. or because we do not care everything to God in
  182. prayer. To conclude the message this morning, the book or
  183. father care speech 29 size come daily to jesus, who
  184. loves you, Open your heart to him freely in him.
  185. There's no disappointment.
  186. You will never find a better counselor, a saver guide,
  187. a more sure defense.
  188. Through all your trials, you have had a neighbor, never
  189. failing friend who has said I am with you always
  190. even unto the end after world roger.
  191. Sister in christ, jesus is our friend.
  192. Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a broader
  193. jesus loves you and he's always there for mega, Bless
  194. us.
