00:01 - 00:06
Hi guys and welcome to a new school year here at insight.
00:06 - 00:08
My name is Katie Beavers and I have been
00:08 - 00:12
assigned as your academic counselor for the school year.
00:12 - 00:17
Um so whether you're a returning student or um your brand new,
00:17 - 00:20
I just wanted to share a short video on who
00:20 - 00:24
I am and what academic counselors do here at insight.
00:25 - 00:30
Um so first a bit about me, this picture is me and my two year old son.
00:30 - 00:35
His name is Noah and we live here in Altus Oklahoma and
00:35 - 00:39
this is my second year serving as an academic counselor with I.
00:39 - 00:42
S. Okay. Previously I taught geometry here at I. S.
00:42 - 00:46
Okay and before that I've taught all levels of
00:46 - 00:48
high school math in a brick and mortar setting.
00:49 - 00:52
Um The academic counseling program here at I. S.
00:52 - 00:56
Okay is a great collaborative effort and we are so proud to be
00:56 - 01:02
here and serve your academic needs and the main points of our program,
01:02 - 01:04
our academic planning
01:05 - 01:07
and graduation plans.
01:07 - 01:09
If you haven't already,
01:09 - 01:12
I would strongly suggest that you log into your
01:12 - 01:15
Ols and take a peek at your graduation plan.
01:15 - 01:21
Um Grad plan is a schedule of all assigned courses through graduation.
01:21 - 01:26
So it has all of the courses that you've already taken at your previous school,
01:26 - 01:28
what those grades work, right?
01:28 - 01:32
And what credit you got for those as well as if you scroll down,
01:32 - 01:34
you can see your current classes that you're in,
01:35 - 01:38
um those will show in progress and then you can even see
01:38 - 01:42
all the classes you're scheduled for all the way to graduation.
01:42 - 01:44
Um So even if you're coming to I.
01:44 - 01:46
S okay as a lower classman,
01:46 - 01:49
you'll be able to see all of your assigned
01:49 - 01:53
courses between now and the time you graduate.
01:53 - 01:56
So to access your graduation plan, which again,
01:56 - 02:01
I strongly advise you do as soon as you can, you go to your Ols,
02:01 - 02:05
so I'm gonna make this bigger so you can see it a little better.
02:05 - 02:08
Um So this is the home page of your Ols.
02:08 - 02:13
You're gonna go to what I call the paperclip also can be called the link.
02:13 - 02:21
It's between your name and the envelope and then you go down to my graduation
02:21 - 02:27
plan and this will open another tab and bring you to that graduation plan.
02:27 - 02:31
So when you have that graduation plan open, it looks like this
02:33 - 02:36
and there are two ways you can view your graduation plans.
02:36 - 02:41
So this one that you're looking at is called the year view.
02:41 - 02:45
Um In this view you can see all of your past,
02:45 - 02:50
present and future assigned courses and it's broken down by year and block.
02:50 - 02:54
I did also want to point out the very top bar with the
02:54 - 02:58
credit summary shows how many credits it has to take to graduate.
02:59 - 03:04
Um how many credits you have earned? How many credits do you still need?
03:04 - 03:07
And then those last two should always be zero unless
03:07 - 03:10
we are waiting on a transcript from a previous school.
03:11 - 03:15
Um those credits, those 23 credits that you need to earn.
03:15 - 03:18
You can't just have those in whatever you want. Right?
03:18 - 03:23
So if you need to see what specific courses you need to graduate,
03:23 - 03:26
you would want to view it by subject view.
03:26 - 03:29
So that's right there by the year
03:29 - 03:33
and this is what subject you looks like.
03:33 - 03:34
Um, so in this one,
03:34 - 03:40
you can see all of your course is broken down by subjects required for graduation.
03:40 - 03:44
So all the english courses or house together all the computer courses,
03:44 - 03:45
all the fine arts, etcetera.
03:45 - 03:48
So you can see everything you need specifically.
03:49 - 03:54
So why does your graduation plan matter?
03:55 - 03:58
So you can view all your assigned courses
03:58 - 04:00
and keep track of your credit requirements.
04:00 - 04:03
You can see that light at the end of the tunnel,
04:03 - 04:09
you can see exactly what you need to take to get to graduation.
04:09 - 04:14
Um, Grade level promotions are based on the number of credits earned,
04:14 - 04:16
not by your age.
04:16 - 04:20
Um, so even if you're graduating, you're scheduled to graduate this year,
04:20 - 04:23
you're scheduled to graduate next year.
04:23 - 04:27
Your grade level does not determine your graduation.
04:27 - 04:32
Um, You need 23 credits to graduate, but as I said before,
04:32 - 04:35
they are in specific subjects matters.
04:35 - 04:39
If you have four credit, it promotes you from ninth to 10th grade,
04:39 - 04:43
10 credits promotes from 10th to 11th and
04:43 - 04:47
17 credits promotes from 11th to 12th grade.
04:48 - 04:54
Um, so there are two graduation tracks approved by the Department of Education.
04:54 - 04:58
There's the college prep track and the core track.
05:00 - 05:06
So college prep um is default for ice Okay students,
05:06 - 05:09
so you'll be automatically enrolled into the college
05:09 - 05:13
prep track unless you have documentation stating otherwise.
05:13 - 05:18
So the tracks are really pretty similar with a few exceptions,
05:18 - 05:23
so the court track only requires one unit of computer, foreign language.
05:23 - 05:26
Um but it does require more electives.
05:26 - 05:29
Um You can go to college via both tracks,
05:29 - 05:33
so don't let the names confuse you but you may
05:33 - 05:37
not be eligible for Oklahoma's promise on the core track.
05:37 - 05:39
So that's a really big difference.
05:39 - 05:45
So if you are on Oklahoma's promise, you need to be on the college prep track.
05:46 - 05:50
If you would like more information about the tracks feel free to reach out so
05:50 - 05:55
I can get that to you which brings me to how to reach me.
05:55 - 05:58
So I'm gonna put that on the screen here.
05:58 - 06:04
Um So I would strongly suggest you snip this so I'm gonna make it big again.
06:06 - 06:10
Um This shows my email address.
06:10 - 06:17
Um It shows my phone number and it also shows my text only number.
06:17 - 06:21
If you call that last number, that text only number, I can't answer it.
06:22 - 06:28
Um So make sure you reach out that number via text only.
06:28 - 06:35
The best way to reach me is via email but I do have an office number and um
06:36 - 06:42
the text only number you see there on the board. So your action steps for today.
06:42 - 06:47
I want you to find your graduation plan go to your graduation
06:47 - 06:51
plan and see what your current classes are for this block.
06:51 - 06:54
Um See what you need to do to go to graduation.
06:55 - 07:02
Um Contact me to make any changes that you would like and get a strong start.
07:02 - 07:05
Um Thanks for listening to me today and of course,
07:05 - 07:09

07:09 - 07:10
