  1. Hi, writers.
  2. Today is a big day.
  3. Today you're going to gather all of your amazing opinion,
  4. persuasive writing pieces that you have written so far You're
  5. going to look over them and then you're going to
  6. pick 11 draft that you will want to develop into
  7. a full persuasive speech within the next couple of weeks.
  8. So really, you will do two things today.
  9. First, you will look backwards.
  10. You will look at all the persuasive writing you've done
  11. and notice how you have changed and grown as a
  12. writer. And then next you're going to look forward.
  13. You're going to set some goals for yourself, and you're
  14. going to make a plan for how you're going to
  15. accomplish those goals.
  16. Um, really, as we're developing ourselves as writers, our main
  17. goal is that every piece that we write is a
  18. little bit better than the piece that we've written before.
  19. And in order for us to be able to do
  20. that, we need to set some goals for ourselves.
  21. And the way that writers set goals for themselves is
  22. first, they kind of they pause and they asked themselves
  23. a few questions.
  24. Here is one of the questions that they ask, Am
  25. I getting better?
  26. So I'm going to pause.
  27. Now look back through your writing and ask yourself, Am
  28. I getting better?
  29. Next question is, what should I work on next?
  30. The checklist that I will give you who will help
  31. you with that?
  32. Finally, what will help me get even better?
  33. So as you are picking and choosing just one draft
  34. today that you will want to develop, I want you
  35. to think about those three questions.
  36. Okay? So once you pick that one draft, this is
  37. what you're going to do.
  38. Um, you will take that one draft, you will have
  39. it in front of you.
  40. You will open sea, so and we'll see.
  41. So you will see the checklist.
  42. You are familiar with this checklist?
  43. Probably. You use the same one for narrative.
  44. This one is a bit of a different one.
  45. But I just want you to read over all of
  46. our goals here.
  47. And then Mark, Um, what are some things that you
  48. are doing?
  49. Well, what are some things that you still want to
  50. get better at?
  51. Maybe Maybe you want to work on your lead.
  52. Maybe you want to get better at writing strong beginnings.
  53. Maybe it's transitions that you want to get better at.
  54. Maybe you want to work on organization and in organizing
  55. your your writing into paragraphs.
  56. Maybe you want to work on elaboration.
  57. So that means writing mawr and providing more examples to
  58. support your opinions.
  59. Or maybe it's the craft.
  60. Maybe you want Thio tell you want to convince your
  61. readers and be very convincing, very believable, believable when when
  62. you are talking to your audience, maybe you want to
  63. keep working on your spelling or punctuation.
  64. But you know what?
  65. Those air not a main goals for now, for now,
  66. I would like you to focus on the goals on
  67. the first two pages off the Okay, so one draft
  68. open seats.
  69. All, um, read over your draft.
  70. Notice what you're doing.
  71. Well, notice what are some other things that you still
  72. need to work on?
  73. Complete the checklist on seesaw and then after your checklist
  74. is completed.
  75. So, yes, we're going to use the checklist to set
  76. your goals.
  77. Goals might be found where you are writing starting to
  78. or not yet because if you're already doing something, that
  79. means you're pretty good at it.
  80. Um, Then you're going to list some goals, the last
  81. pages of your seats activity.
  82. And then you're going to write about how you might
  83. practice some of the goals that you chose, right?
  84. Can't wait to see what you found.
  85. What you come up with a kind of reflections you've
  86. come up with.
  87. Based on what you've done so far, we've been working
  88. very, very.
