  1. hi there Today, I'll be talking to you about five
  2. ways that you could become a globally aware educator.
  3. So one of the first ways that you can bring
  4. a global awareness into your classroom is through connecting with
  5. new people.
  6. Currently, um, something is offered online, called Skype in the
  7. Classroom, which is a great resource where teachers can actually
  8. connect with new people across the globe.
  9. So essentially Skype in the classroom lets educators connect with
  10. classrooms around the world for free.
  11. There are tons of different experts in a variety of
  12. fields who are willing to actually spend time talking to
  13. your students.
  14. Um, they also have a special feature called Mystery Skype,
  15. which allows classes to play a guessing game with each
  16. other about trying to figure out where each of the
  17. schools are located in the world.
  18. So this is something that's really exciting and really fun
  19. for kids, And, um, it's someone like having pen pals.
  20. But in a virtual format another way that we can
  21. connect with people through pen pals so more of a
  22. traditional approach.
  23. So if you don't have access to technology, going through
  24. it of pen pals is a great way to connect
  25. with students across the globe.
  26. Eso going online and looking for some ways in which
  27. you can access thes pen pals is a great way
  28. to build global awareness in your classroom.
  29. So having your class right to students from another country
  30. and engage in literature with those students.
  31. Another way that you could bring some global awareness to
  32. your classroom is through rethinking your atmosphere.
  33. Eso essentially decorating your classroom with world maps and posters
  34. and resources that reflect diversity and citizenship.
  35. This could include having picture books that reflect various cultures.
  36. Very skin colors in your costume also have also having
  37. a multicultural calendar on display, which can be either co
  38. created with students and can reflect the different celebrations and
  39. holidays that they celebrate.
  40. Or you can also purchase one online, which reflects various
  41. cultures and, um, families around the world.
  42. The special celebrations that they have and another way thio
  43. bring in global awareness into your classrooms have photos of
  44. your students and their families on display.
  45. Um, to show the diversity within your own classroom community
  46. picture books and novels are a great way to bring
  47. global awareness into your classroom, through a very simple format.
  48. So a few picture books that I wanted to touch
  49. upon that are great in raising global awareness.
  50. Are one of them being This is how we do
  51. it. This is how we do.
  52. It is a book that follows Children from around the
  53. world and their daily lives.
  54. So this shows you know, the difference between such little
  55. things as thio.
  56. What school looks like for kids in Japan or what
  57. school looks like in another country in the world, Or
  58. possibly what the kids are eating for dinner in Peru.
  59. So this is a great picture book, which really does
  60. start, um, which is a great addition to global collection.
  61. I'm another book that raises some great global awareness is
  62. called same same but different By Jenny Sue Kostecki Shaw
  63. A ZX You can imagine this is a book that
  64. talks about small differences, too big similarities.
  65. So this is a story falls to pen pals who
  66. love many of the same things from across the world.
  67. But it also displays their cultural different days.
  68. And another book that I wanted to touch upon is,
  69. um, the book that's in my heading, which is starting
  70. the picture above.
  71. What does it mean to be global?
  72. So this book sends a wonderful message in regards Thio
  73. How to introduce global living and globalization to young Children
  74. within your classroom or at home.
  75. So it encourages them to experience different cultures, celebrate diversity
  76. and simply just respect one another.
  77. So this is a great starting point to help raise
  78. global awareness with your students in your classroom.
  79. Another way that you could bring global awareness into your
  80. classroom is through connecting with me places.
  81. So essentially taking your students on field trips to help,
  82. um, you know, open up their eyes to the different
  83. experiences and things that take that happen in the world
  84. around us.
  85. So some great places you could take your classes to
  86. museums, orchestra halls, symphony, um, concerts, virtual field trips such
  87. as offers virtual tours, also talking, but previously about skyping
  88. with, um, possibly educators from across the world or students
  89. from across the world as well.
  90. This is a great way to connect with me places
  91. and new people and learn a little bit about the
  92. culture and lives you know of those who are different
  93. than us.
  94. But also the same last but not least, another great
  95. way to bring globalization into your classroom is through empowering
  96. your students to give them the opportunity to teach about
  97. their own cultures.
  98. Traditions of perspectives.
  99. I have an extremely diverse classrooms, so I know that
  100. my students would be able to bring all sorts of
  101. wonderful traditions and celebrations and artwork from their culture.
  102. So this is a great opportunity for students to shine
  103. and become the teachers in regards.
  104. Thio Global Awareness, A ZX well as inviting students families
  105. into the classroom to share about their cultures, is another
  106. great way to bring that empowerment to students and their
