  1. performing gender through Instagram.
  2. How social media allows us to see and perform the
  3. full spectrum of gender.
  4. The object of my study is gender, but more specifically,
  5. gender is a spectrum.
  6. What do we mean when we talk about gender?
  7. 1 may think of the traditional binary categories of male
  8. and female.
  9. However, this project will look agenda as a fluid concept
  10. and highlight how our lives never fit to affects gender
  11. role. Through this project, I will illustrate why absorption of
  12. gender needs to change and how modern day platforms allow
  13. us to explore our gender identity outside of the socially
  14. imposed constraints of gender as necessarily linked with biological sex.
  15. The methodology I will use to achieve this will firstly
  16. be analytical.
  17. In order to understand the varying concepts of gender at
  18. stake, I will also need to be interpretative of different
  19. responses to gender and its fluidity.
  20. Finally, an evaluative approach will be needed to present my
  21. object of gender against philosophical implications as well as understand
  22. the impact of my territory of instagram on gender fluidity.
  23. How can philosophy help us explore ideas of gender as
  24. being fluid?
  25. My primary philosophical focus for this project is the work
  26. of Judith Butler and their concept of the performative itty
  27. of gender.
  28. This approached agenda allows us to demonstrate her philosophy can
  29. help us explore the possibilities of gender fluidity.
  30. But there's performance theory of gender illustrates how the typically
  31. performed acts of the two sexes have become linked to
  32. our perception of gender, resulting in the historical, cultural and
  33. social formation of a binary structure towards gender.
  34. But this concept of performative itty emphasizes that a binary
  35. view of gender is not natural.
  36. Instead, gender is created freely through our performed acts.
  37. Gender has become wrongfully attached to the social expectations that
  38. it must align with your biological sex.
  39. We can see how, despite the reduction of gender through
  40. biological categorization from a historical tradition dominated by patriarchal norms,
  41. philosophy cannot offer insight into the revival of ideas surrounding
  42. gender fluidity.
  43. I will use Instagram as a background to demonstrate how
  44. the 21st century we are able to present our lives,
  45. our identity ourselves, as outside of traditional binary view of
  46. gender. Instagram allows us to create a profile both figuratively
  47. and literally of ourselves, with free reign over the perception
  48. and performance of our agenda.
  49. This platform highlights the contemporary issue that fixed and limited
  50. gender roles are becoming unstable as it allows for the
  51. creation of itself that can present a person's gender as
  52. however they choose.
  53. The study.
  54. Self Portraiture in the First Person Age by Lauren Canal,
  55. helps us understand this.
  56. It acts as a narrative showing how we are able
  57. to use our instagram feeds as a tool to perform
  58. our identity as well as a self designed gender performance.
  59. To conclude my aims, this project will clarify the limitations
  60. of viewing gender in a binary way.
  61. An established are The only way to fully appreciate gender
  62. is to look at it as a spectrum.
  63. I hope this project will help us value being able
  64. to participate in the full spectrum agenda, perform in your
  65. life. However, you may wish to live it.
  66. Finally, this project will demonstrate the support that social media
  67. platforms such as Instagram can offer in embracing gender fluidity.
  68. Thank you for listening
