00:00 - 00:04
Hi. My name is Alex Santiago, and I'm a student
00:04 - 00:07
at Buffalo State College, and today we're going to talk
00:08 - 00:09
about identifying life stressors.
00:11 - 00:16
So let's take a minute to reflect and make a
00:16 - 00:18
list of things in your life that make you feel
00:18 - 00:32
stressed. Perfect.
00:33 - 00:34
Now that we have a few things down, we can
00:34 - 00:35
put those to the side.
00:36 - 00:40
Where are going Thio go into what stresses so stresses
00:41 - 00:44
our body's reaction to a challenge or demand, and that
00:44 - 00:46
could make you feel anxious or overwhelmed.
00:47 - 00:50
And stressors are factors that cause us to feel stressed.
00:51 - 00:53
And there's two stressors, external and internal.
00:54 - 00:57
Some examples of external stressors are money issues.
00:58 - 01:01
Work relationships are unexpected life changes.
01:03 - 01:07
Some internal stressors are negative self talk on realistic expectations
01:09 - 01:11
of yourself or goals that you set and an all
01:12 - 01:12
or nothing attitude.
01:18 - 01:21
So let's list some things that make us feel stressed
01:22 - 01:26
out. Here's a few examples listed that make us feel
01:26 - 01:36
stressed. Relationships, health status, social media, school money, which is
01:36 - 01:36
a big one.
01:36 - 01:39
That's what we'll be talking about work.
01:40 - 01:42
Another one could be nutrition.
01:44 - 01:48
So we're going to go into that Also, we're actually
01:49 - 01:50
gonna talk about self sabotage as well.
01:51 - 01:54
So self sabotage is when we actively prevent ourselves from
01:54 - 01:56
reaching our goals or full potential.
01:58 - 02:02
And some self sabotaging behaviors could be avoiding physical activity.
02:02 - 02:03
Because you're stressed.
02:04 - 02:07
If your stress you might over or under eat or
02:07 - 02:11
comfort eat procrastination is one of them which is putting
02:11 - 02:13
off things until the last minute.
02:14 - 02:16
Spending money after a stressful day or event in your
02:17 - 02:20
life. So maybe you are tied on money.
02:20 - 02:22
But you had a really hard day at work, so
02:22 - 02:26
you just go and you shop to make you feel
02:27 - 02:30
better and then last, not least negative self talk.
02:34 - 02:37
So now that we've identified some factors in our life
02:38 - 02:43
that can stress us out and self sabotaging behaviors that
02:43 - 02:47
we may experience, let's go into changing our mindset.
02:51 - 02:53
So to change our mindset, we have to start with
02:53 - 02:55
making positive changes in our life.
02:56 - 03:01
So recognizing those self sabotaging behaviors will help us identify
03:01 - 03:07
that and grow from that, changing your pattern of behavior
03:07 - 03:07
as well.
03:08 - 03:13
So if you're procrastinating constantly, maybe setting a goal to
03:14 - 03:17
do things a little bit earlier, or if you realize
03:18 - 03:21
that you are doing a lot of negative self talk.
03:22 - 03:26
Realize when you're doing that negative self talk and put
03:26 - 03:28
in some positive self talk instead.
03:29 - 03:32
So that's changing our pattern of behavior to change our
03:32 - 03:36
mindset and setting realistic goals.
03:36 - 03:42
So budgeting weekly for groceries and other expenses, bringing food
03:42 - 03:44
and snacks with you if you know you'll be gone
03:45 - 03:47
for a long period of time and pack food to
03:47 - 03:49
take thio school or work.
03:50 - 03:55
So we're talking about budgeting and meal prepping because money
03:55 - 03:59
is a huge dresser in people's lives, and so is
04:00 - 04:03
food. So being prepared in these ways can help us
04:03 - 04:04
overcome these life stressors.
04:05 - 04:08
So a little bit of tips on meal prepping.
04:09 - 04:13
If you haven't meal prep before you can keep the
04:13 - 04:13
recipes simple.
04:14 - 04:17
They don't have to be anything crazy or elaborate.
04:18 - 04:22
You can make recipes that you like and enjoy eating.
04:24 - 04:27
Also trying to eat protein at each meal so you
04:27 - 04:28
can have fish, beef, poultry.
04:29 - 04:31
This could be frozen or fresh.
04:31 - 04:32
Both are great options.
04:33 - 04:37
Can chicken or tuna, which are also great options and
04:37 - 04:42
a little bit, um, more cost effective beans are another
04:43 - 04:46
one, which will be, um, touching on that in a
04:46 - 04:48
little while and eggs.
04:49 - 04:54
Also, nutritious food is affordable to frozen canned fruits and
04:55 - 04:55
vegetables. Air Justus.
04:56 - 04:56
Good as fresh.
04:58 - 05:02
So if you don't really like fresh fruits, you'd rather
05:03 - 05:03
do canned.
05:04 - 05:05
That's totally okay.
05:07 - 05:10
So now that we've talked about some meal prepping tips,
05:10 - 05:11
let's talk about budgeting.
05:12 - 05:15
So budgeting might be like a big word.
05:15 - 05:18
Not a lot of people like budgeting, but let's think
05:18 - 05:20
about it as a plan.
05:21 - 05:24
So you're going to set money aside each week for
05:24 - 05:28
emergencies, groceries, bills and all other expenses.
05:29 - 05:30
So let's shopping, entertainment.
05:31 - 05:33
Maybe you want to put some money into savings or
05:33 - 05:36
you're traveling so you can put some money aside for
05:36 - 05:43
that. But being prepared with a budget will help you
05:45 - 05:48
plan ahead, and it will help you not be so
05:48 - 05:50
stressed about money each week.
05:51 - 05:54
So since you know what is expected and how much
05:54 - 05:59
money you have for that week and planning ahead, this
05:59 - 06:02
will help reduce some stress you're experiencing in your day
06:02 - 06:02
to day life.
06:03 - 06:06
It will help you be prepared for the day or
06:06 - 06:08
the week of head of you and help you prioritize
06:09 - 06:10
important tasks in your life.
06:11 - 06:15
So when we talked about that self sabotaging behavior with
06:16 - 06:21
procrastination. Planning ahead will help you procrastinate a little bit
06:21 - 06:23
less if you know what's coming up for that week
06:23 - 06:24
and you can get it done.
06:26 - 06:33
Um, before it's dio and planning ahead helps with budgeting
06:33 - 06:35
for your groceries, bills and other expenses.
06:35 - 06:38
So you know what to expect money wise.
06:39 - 06:45
So if you're yeah, you know, not prepared with money
06:46 - 06:47
and you're you're stressed out.
06:48 - 06:52
You just go and get fast food and then you
06:52 - 06:54
realize that you just spent that money that you needed
06:54 - 06:57
for bills, planning ahead.
06:58 - 07:02
Budgeting and meal prepping will help solve all of that.
07:02 - 07:03
Those stressors there.
07:08 - 07:11
All right, so now that we've talked about changing our
07:11 - 07:16
mindset, we've discussed budgeting Planning ahead, meal prepping.
07:18 - 07:21
I'm now going to share a nutritious recipe with you.
07:22 - 07:26
This is a black being keen was salad, and it's
07:26 - 07:29
loaded with protein, fiber and vegetables.
07:30 - 07:36
So in this recipe here, I only have, um, a
07:37 - 07:37
yellow pepper.
07:38 - 07:40
But you can add any color pepper you like.
07:41 - 07:45
You can add some cucumbers any other you know, vegetable
07:45 - 07:49
that you wanna add in this perfectly fine, and this
07:49 - 07:51
can actually be served hot or cold.
07:51 - 07:54
So this meal is great for on the go or
07:54 - 07:56
dinner for the week because you can eat a cold
07:56 - 07:57
or you can reheat it up for dinner.
07:59 - 08:01
It's nutritious and easy to make, and if you never
08:01 - 08:04
had Kenya before, it's actually located in the same Islas
08:05 - 08:07
rice. And if you're you know, a bit nervous about
08:07 - 08:11
trying something new, you can always make this recipe with
08:11 - 08:16
Rice. And I got all of these ingredients in the
08:16 - 08:19
video from tops, and it cost me $12.
08:20 - 08:24
So I'll show you this quick video of the Black
08:24 - 08:25
Bean Kenya recipe.
09:16 - 09:19
Okay, so that was the black being Cuban recipe.
09:20 - 09:23
I just used keen wah campaigns.
09:25 - 09:30
I used canned corn, and I used a fresh yellow
09:30 - 09:32
pepper to make this recipe.
09:33 - 09:34
Total took the chemo.
09:35 - 09:35
It's about 15 minutes.
09:36 - 09:36
Total prep time.
09:37 - 09:40
30 minutes or less, so it's really quick and easy.
09:41 - 09:45
The serving on here It makes four servings, so you
09:45 - 09:52
can take that for lunch or have it for dinner.
09:55 - 10:00
So overall, today we talked about, um, factors that make
10:00 - 10:01
you feel stressed.
10:01 - 10:03
You listed some down at the beginning so you can
10:03 - 10:04
always look back.
10:05 - 10:07
See, identify what makes you feel stressed.
10:07 - 10:09
What triggers that stress in your life?
10:10 - 10:13
We talked about South sabotaging habit so you can also
10:14 - 10:18
go back, reflect, see what some of those self sabotaging
10:18 - 10:22
behaviors are, and then waste to be prepared and plan
10:23 - 10:30
ahead. So being prepared, moneywise, being prepared, food wise and
10:31 - 10:35
being prepared in general will help alleviate some of that
10:36 - 10:39
stress. And then there's an easy recipe video at the
10:39 - 10:41
end that you can follow and make at home.
10:43 - 10:43
Thanks for listening.
