00:09 - 00:15
skills and career goals in the field of education To
00:15 - 00:17
begin, I want to share with you my educational background.
00:20 - 00:24
I attended the University of Arizona from 2012 to 2016
00:25 - 00:27
where I graduated with a bachelor of arts in psychology
00:28 - 00:31
on a bachelor of arts and education in elementary education
00:32 - 00:32
with a minor in Spanish.
00:37 - 00:41
Okay, I am currently attending Northern Arizona University, pursuing a
00:41 - 00:46
master's of education in educational leadership with an emphasis and
00:46 - 00:47
community college in higher education.
00:48 - 00:50
I expect to graduate in August of 2020.
00:57 - 01:00
Next, I will discuss my professional experience at the elementary,
01:01 - 01:04
middle school, high school and adult education settings.
01:07 - 01:09
I began my teaching career at the Car Very elementary
01:10 - 01:12
school District from August of 2016.
01:14 - 01:17
Up to May of 2020 I taught as 1/4 grade
01:17 - 01:20
and seventh grade teacher at Title one schools in the
01:20 - 01:23
Mary Belle Community of Phoenix, Arizona, focusing on the areas
01:24 - 01:26
of reading, writing, mathematics and science.
01:27 - 01:31
Having served families of low socioeconomic status, I strive to
01:31 - 01:35
build strong relationships with my students and work collaboratively with
01:35 - 01:38
parents to help ensure the academic success of my students
01:39 - 01:42
building report and a sense of community with my students
01:42 - 01:45
and their families was important to me, because I understand
01:45 - 01:49
firsthand the challenges these family face every day as a
01:49 - 01:52
first generation college student who grew up in Maryville.
01:53 - 01:54
Identify with these families.
01:54 - 01:57
And it is my passion to serve communities like Maryvale
01:58 - 02:00
and provide these students and their parents with the tools
02:00 - 02:01
they need to become successful.
02:07 - 02:10
As of June of 2020 I began working at the
02:10 - 02:13
Glendale Union High School District, where I will be teaching
02:13 - 02:15
as a high school Spanish teacher again at a title
02:16 - 02:19
one school in Glendale, Arizona, And realizing that I still
02:19 - 02:22
have more to give, I decided to shift age groups
02:22 - 02:24
for this upcoming 2020 21 school year.
02:26 - 02:27
In this new position, I believe that I can have
02:28 - 02:29
a greater impact than ever before.
02:30 - 02:32
I now have the opportunity to not only serve families
02:33 - 02:35
of low socioeconomic status, but I will be working directly
02:36 - 02:37
with students who are transitioning to college.
02:39 - 02:40
For most of these students, they will be the first
02:40 - 02:43
in their families to attend college, and they're exactly the
02:43 - 02:45
type of students that I long to work with.
02:46 - 02:48
Being a first generation college student has its many obstacles,
02:49 - 02:52
but it will be mine gold to support and help
02:52 - 02:57
my students develop academically personally, professionally, as they transition to
02:57 - 03:06
adulthood, I actively look for ways to continue serving families
03:06 - 03:08
in these communities outside of my normal full time teaching.
03:09 - 03:13
In March of 2020 I began teaching part time in
03:13 - 03:16
the College Bridge Pathways Little Education program as an English
03:17 - 03:20
language acquisition for adults instructor at Rios, a lotto college.
03:21 - 03:24
In this position, I have the opportunity of teaching English
03:24 - 03:28
to a don't learners, focusing on their rating, writing, listening
03:28 - 03:29
and speaking skills.
03:30 - 03:32
I believe this program makes a difference for these adult
03:32 - 03:36
learners because in acquiring the English language, better employment opportunities
03:37 - 03:39
are presented for them, and for many of these learners
03:40 - 03:42
they're better equipped to support their child with their education.
03:50 - 03:53
Next, I will describe my interpersonal skills and technical skills
03:57 - 03:57
as an educator.
03:58 - 04:01
Some of the interpersonal skills I possess include building student
04:01 - 04:05
engagement, collaboration, relationship, building time management.
04:06 - 04:09
I am a team player and I also demonstrate positivity
04:10 - 04:10
in the professional environment.
04:12 - 04:15
I believe that in any teaching position, especially in a
04:15 - 04:18
position serving first generation college students, it is important to
04:18 - 04:21
have interpersonal skills that allows for one to connect and

I have a passion for teaching and learning, which pushes
04:47 - 04:49
me to continually grow as a leader and develop my
04:50 - 04:50
skills in the field of education.
04:52 - 04:55
With my educational background, teaching experience and my upcoming masters
04:56 - 04:59
degree, I aspire to be an adjunct professor in higher
04:59 - 05:03
education who teaches strategies for success or other related courses
05:04 - 05:08
that support students, especially first generation college students transition to
