00:01 - 00:04
Hi, this is Leland and this is my presentation on
00:05 - 00:05
the Book of Mica.
00:07 - 00:10
So to start with my uh holistic analysis, it is
00:11 - 00:12
basically the historical analysis.
00:13 - 00:15
So the king and rulers of the time, we're joe
00:16 - 00:18
fam has and Hezekiah of Judah.
00:19 - 00:20
Uh They were the rulers of Judah at the time
00:21 - 00:23
and they were who Michael was prophesying too.
00:24 - 00:29
He's passed uh prophesying to them, not just about them,
00:29 - 00:32
but about the nation that they ruled and was telling
00:32 - 00:35
them that they need to change themselves in the nation
00:35 - 00:36
that they were ruling.
00:39 - 00:41
Um My next point is the treaties at the time.
00:42 - 00:46
So originally King Menahem offered tribute to Syria.
00:46 - 00:47
So this is Israel.
00:47 - 00:51
Um but after his death, Menahem son made a treaty
00:52 - 00:54
with the king of Damascus to stand and fight against
00:55 - 00:55
the Syrians.
00:55 - 00:58
Which was not a good decision.
01:00 - 01:04
Yeah. Other facts of historical importance was that the book
01:04 - 01:08
of Mica takes place in 737- 669 BC.
01:09 - 01:12
Uh This time was full of war and conflict even
01:13 - 01:16
within Israel and outside of Israel, uh They were getting
01:16 - 01:18
attacked by outsiders while fighting within themselves.
01:19 - 01:22
Uh And also just to kind of put into perspective
01:22 - 01:25
about how cruel and evil Israel was at the time.
01:26 - 01:30
Um the king's in order to gain power to become
01:30 - 01:34
full king is they would kill the previous king uh
01:35 - 01:36
to kind of cement their ruler ship in Israel.
01:38 - 01:43
Yeah. Um yeah, next is the literary analysis.
01:45 - 01:48
Uh so I divided it into two different sections for
01:48 - 01:49
my literary analysis.
01:50 - 01:55
Um, chapters one through three are basically warning Israel of
01:55 - 01:58
what their actions are, what their punishment is going to
01:58 - 02:01
be if they continue these actions and to change their
02:01 - 02:05
actions. Um he's telling them exactly what's going to happen
02:05 - 02:06
and it happens.
02:07 - 02:12
Um Chapter four through 7 are basically telling the Israelites
02:13 - 02:17
that even though they are going to be punished, uh
02:17 - 02:19
there is going to be returned to Israel.
02:19 - 02:20
They are going to be better.
02:20 - 02:23
They are once again going to be high in the
02:23 - 02:27
nation's and they are going to be um no longer
02:27 - 02:34
slaves or captives next to the theological analysis.
02:36 - 02:38
Um, so I think that this text, we can learn
02:38 - 02:39
a lot about God and humans both.
02:40 - 02:44
Uh, and so through this text for God, uh, we
02:44 - 02:46
can see that uh he judges fairly righteously.
02:47 - 02:51
Um, I have to say this because he doesn't just
02:51 - 02:53
judge uh outside nations.
02:54 - 02:57
He also judges Israel itself and in very similar ways
02:57 - 02:59
to what he would do to other nations.
03:00 - 03:04
An example of a similar thing was Jonah and the
03:04 - 03:09
um yeah, uh the nation is not coming to mind,
03:10 - 03:15
but he sends Jonah and he goes to prophesy to
03:15 - 03:16
them and they actually changed their ways.
03:17 - 03:19
If they didn't though God was going to destroy them,
03:21 - 03:22
next to the nature of people.
03:24 - 03:27
Um I kind of found this interesting that uh people
03:28 - 03:30
uh we learn a lot about human nature in this
03:30 - 03:33
chapter because even though they are giving a very clear
03:33 - 03:35
warning of what's going to happen if they don't change,
03:36 - 03:39
uh they decided they knew better and uh wanted to
03:39 - 03:40
keep doing what they were doing.
03:41 - 03:44
So this kind of teaches us that humans by nature
03:44 - 03:48
are egotistical and um we'll put themselves above God.
03:51 - 03:55
Um next is God and Micah um In Mica uh
03:56 - 03:59
we see excited God that um I don't, I personally
04:00 - 04:03
don't think we see many times in the bible in
04:03 - 04:04
this type of way.
04:05 - 04:09
Um in Micah we see a god that is right,
04:10 - 04:15
righteously vengeful, strong handed and um he's judging the nation
04:15 - 04:22
of Israel and it seems very um different than the
04:22 - 04:25
God. We generally see the forgiving God, the God of
04:26 - 04:26
love, god of peace.
04:27 - 04:31
This is almost a god of war and destruction, but
04:32 - 04:35
it is a righteous war and destruction against Israel because
04:35 - 04:36
Israel was wrong.
04:39 - 04:43
Um personal application um for this uh I said I
04:43 - 04:47
can apply myself to learn from Israel's mistakes and take
04:47 - 04:50
heed of what people say and to take correction, not
04:50 - 04:53
just here, the correction ignore it and think I know
04:53 - 04:57
better um and to actually take people's correction into consideration.
04:59 - 05:03
Um and that is my presentation on the Book of
05:03 - 05:03
Mica.
