  1. Good afternoon, my name is Henry, even house and on behalf of Saint Croix rods,
  2. I'd like to give you a warm welcome
  3. to this online fishing seminar.
  4. I'm going to be sharing with you?
  5. A broad overview of how you can plan your own fishing,
  6. canoe fishing trip to get out in the outdoors and adventure
  7. with some of your family or maybe some of your friends.
  8. So to start with, I'm going to give you a basic overview of planning,
  9. prepping,
  10. driving
  11. and then wrapping up the whole trip into all
  12. first for planning.
  13. I think it's important that you write down a basic
  14. outline of what you expect this trip to look like.
  15. We want you to get the gears turning and jotting
  16. some ideas of what you think would be fun,
  17. Maybe what you're nervous about, what you're anxious about.
  18. Maybe what,
  19. what expectations you may have,
  20. any of those things.
  21. Just start writing down your basic thoughts on doing the trip and whole
  22. some questions to look at
  23. that I think are important.
  24. Our first, where, where are you going to be doing this trip?
  25. Are you going to be doing it on a river?
  26. Maybe a late.
  27. These are going to show different strategies and
  28. how you're going to plan for the trip?
  29. So it's important to look at that
  30. Next, we're going to go with, when are you planning it? In the spring?
  31. Midsummer fall? Is this uh going to be happening in the winter somewhere down south.
  32. Uh, you want to look at this and start planning ahead of time, months in advance.
  33. For sure to start looking at
  34. what the weather maybe. Um,
  35. what type of fish are going to be biting all those sorts of questions
  36. then, who
  37. is this going to be some close friends of yours? Maybe some family.
  38. Are you taking young kids?
  39. You want to know your basic
  40. people that are going to be joining you with you on this trip.
  41. So they can be a part of the planning process to
  42. then
  43. we're going to look at the cost.
  44. You can either have an expensive trip
  45. or a cheap trip.
  46. For example,
  47. you could use trash bags as your dry bags or you can go
  48. and buy $5100 dry bags to store all your gear together with.
  49. Lastly look at transportation,
  50. how are you going to be getting there.
  51. How are you going to be getting the canoes there?
  52. Do you need a trailer to haul multiple canoes?
  53. Looking at these things ahead of time is going to save you
  54. a lot of trouble once you start planning a short term trip,
  55. you want to plan this months in advance, be prepared.
  56. Moving on to the next section,
  57. we're going to be going to prepping.
  58. So
  59. what do you need?
  60. Well look at this guy in the picture, you want to look like him.
  61. He looks like he's meant to be on the top of the mountain. He has the right gear.
  62. He looks like he's no, he knows what he's doing Also,
  63. he made it to the top of the mountain.
  64. So he must be experienced.
  65. And guess what with canoe fishing trips,
  66. you don't necessarily have to be fully experienced.
  67. Uh, you,
  68. if you have some problem solving skills then you're
  69. definitely able to take on this trip for yourself.
  70. Maybe just choose and that. So,
  71. and that's a rushing river that you're going to be taking on.
  72. Some necessities that I think are important for you
  73. to get ready as you're prepping for the trip are
  74. to begin with
  75. clothing and shelter.
  76. If it's an overnight trip, are you going to be sleeping in a hammock
  77. or attacked?
  78. Those are some things you want to look at
  79. also
  80. is the weather going to be nice? It's on the outside or is it going to be raining?
  81. Do you need to prepare with some rain gear?
  82. Also, your canoes and your paddles?
  83. Are you going to be renting your canoes or maybe you're going to be uh using
  84. a friend's and borrowing them and then you're gonna have to ask ahead of time.
  85. Next food to eat.
  86. Are you going to be bringing lots of food?
  87. Just maybe little snacks to get you through?
  88. Are you going to be doing fish fries on the trip? Maybe?
  89. Uh, there's just some questions to think about in planning.
  90. Lastly fishing equipment.
  91. Um, you're gonna want to bring a small tackle box probably.
  92. So it's easier to transport
  93. and you're also gonna want to bring affordable rod, maybe a breakdown round
  94. and this leads me to my shameless plug,
  95. which is for the Saint Rod ST Croix Premier series breakaway rods.
  96. I would suggest getting a six ft action, a six ft,
  97. medium heavy action so that you can handle a variety of
  98. fish species and really enjoy your time on the water.
  99. Next
  100. we're going to thrive.
  101. We want what this may look like. It's going to be different to each individual.
  102. But
  103. as you see with this view,
  104. beautiful view of this canoe with some mountainous background.
  105. Mhm
  106. A river can be a fun time to be on
  107. when you're going on a canoe fishing trip.
  108. I use the metaphor of life on the river because that's what
  109. I've experienced and my friends like to say life on the river,
  110. go with the flow, You're on river time because
  111. it means that you eat when you want, you sleep when you want you fish when you want.
  112. You don't have to be on a strict schedule, do this, do that, do that.
  113. You just can go with the flow, enjoy what you're experiencing in the present.
  114. We want you to catch lots of fish,
  115. But that's not always the number one goal.
  116. As you can see what the smile this little kid, this little boy has on his face,
  117. he looks extremely happy to be holding those fish up
  118. and I'm guessing that's his dad in the background,
  119. which makes it even more special,
  120. which leads me to this quote,
  121. which I checked with all the ST Croix team and
  122. we all say that we for sure stand by the statement
  123. but always remember that the memories with the people around
  124. you are more important than the fish that you catch,
  125. which is a quote by myself but checked by all of ST Croix rods,
  126. next
  127. tell some stories
  128. for me
  129. last summer I was on a canoe fishing trip and through these pictures,
  130. I'm going to walk with you through a simple story.
  131. No,
  132. this bottom right picture is just me paddling a canoe. That's nothing special.
  133. But then in the top right, you can see a canoe
  134. pinned up against a bridge pylon.
  135. Uh, we couldn't move it at first, but eventually we were, we were able to pry it out
  136. now. Where does the fish come in?
  137. Well, the fish is what caused that canoe to get pinned between the pylons.
  138. We came around a corner in a bend
  139. and Gavin who was, who was fishing at the time,
  140. ended up catching this nice,
  141. this nice 24 inch catfish which ended up pulling his boat
  142. around and swerving it in front of the other canoe,
  143. making the other canoe go sideways as he went under the bridge.
  144. And when the other canoe went sideways and hit that pylon boom,
  145. everybody shifted their weight and fell right out of the canoe
  146. and the canoe just got pushed with the current right against the pylon,
  147. locking it in place,
  148. luckily no one was hurt and the adrenaline wears off
  149. eventually and everybody was able to laugh about it.
  150. But in the moment people were a little scared
  151. now in wrapping up you've made it.
  152. I hope you enjoyed your time on the river and I hope you have
  153. many stories to tell for yourself and to tell all your friends and your family
  154. some tips I have
  155. is to keep your gear clean on the trip
  156. and then it makes the cleaning process after the trip,
  157. much more manageable.
  158. Also keep your gear organized.
  159. If you keep it organized on the trip,
  160. then putting it away once you get home is going to be easy.
  161. And lastly start planning your next trip now until all
  162. your friends to go out and by ST Croix rods.
  163. The third one maybe a little biased,
  164. but I'm not ashamed of it and thank you for joining me in this
  165. presentation as I shared with you how to plan your own canoe fishing trip.
  166. I hope you learned something new
  167. and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out and contact me,
  168. I'd be willing to give you some helpful tips and maybe
  169. share with you some of my other stories that I have,
  170. thank you for joining me
