  1. Hi, I'm Emma Villas and I'm Marley Vander Molen, and
  2. we're here to talk about the giving tree, which is
  3. a community giving project started by Central High School.
  4. The giving tree was designed to help students in need
  5. over the holidays.
  6. This was also designed to help our social worker level
  7. record collect basic necessities for students.
  8. Some of these basic necessities included clothing, hygiene products and
  9. seasonal items.
  10. These items were also used for students to give as
  11. a Christmas present for family members.
  12. Many DECA members from Central High School were involved with
  13. the planning and setting up of the giving tree classes
  14. that helped with this included marketing one and two high
  15. school business and ensure the business decades public relation.
  16. Team used social media to reach out to other members
  17. of the community.
  18. Outside of Central High School, Deca students hung up flyers
  19. all through Los Angeles to spread the word that we
  20. were collecting donations.
  21. Luncheons were also held for teachers to collect money for
  22. donations. Jimmy John's and Pizza Hut gave meal deals to
  23. help with the costs, so here's some important dates.
  24. We started collecting donations for the giving tree November 20th
  25. of 2020 we received our first donation of $60 on
  26. November 23rd of 2020.
  27. Our first luncheon was held December 3rd of 2020.
  28. We stopped collecting donations December 15th of 2020.
  29. So here are some problems we ran into.
  30. A lot of the problems we have with this project
  31. were caused from a spike and financial need.
  32. Coronavirus caused a sufficient increase in financial need as well,
  33. due to parents losing jobs and lack of basic necessities.
  34. The flood and mold that had taken place Summer of
  35. 2020 destroyed all of our donations we had from previous
  36. years. So we found a resolution, our resolution to these
  37. problems, where the amount of extra donations to make up
  38. for the lack of the basic needs re raised $1300
  39. worth of donations that helped us overcome the problems we
  40. faced our final thoughts.
  41. This project helped us reach many students in need during
  42. the holidays.
  43. Even with the problems that we faced, Lovell record helped
  44. 500 students from the Giving Tree donation project.
  45. We'd like to thank all the Decca and business classes
  46. that donated and helped with this project
