00:01 - 00:01
Hi everyone.
00:02 - 00:04
My name is Richard Galindo and I'm doing a video
00:04 - 00:06
presentation for dr pagodas.
00:07 - 00:10
Introduction to LGBT studies class.
00:11 - 00:16
So position Haliti refers to how differences in social position
00:17 - 00:20
and power shape identities and access in society.
00:22 - 00:28
So the first uh picture that I'm going to use
00:30 - 00:30
for the word procession.
00:31 - 00:33
Now you will be this picture of glass.
00:35 - 00:38
What sucks And some tape that I used to be
00:38 - 00:43
the solar eclipse back in August 21, 2017 at 1:16
00:44 - 00:44
p. m.
00:44 - 00:47
with my ex boyfriend whose name was Jordan.
00:48 - 00:55
Yeah, so the glass isn't one specifically um reminds me
00:55 - 01:00
of position al Itty, but I think that the experience
01:01 - 01:03
afterwards what reminds me of that.
01:04 - 01:08
So uh my boyfriend, I we I mean my ex
01:08 - 01:13
boyfriend, not my boy, We have argued so much throughout
01:14 - 01:14
the year.
01:14 - 01:18
We have been together for 10 months by August 2017
01:19 - 01:26
and on that specific day during a solar eclipse, I
01:26 - 01:30
remember it being a half day started off, well we
01:31 - 01:34
need to sort of eclipse and it was pretty fun
01:34 - 01:38
experience and I think that's a very nice memory because
01:38 - 01:41
it was the first time ever that I saw a
01:41 - 01:41
solar eclipse.
01:42 - 01:49
However, afterwards we had argued really badly and arguments were
01:49 - 01:54
things that were very common in our relationship and I
01:55 - 01:56
thought that was normal.
01:57 - 02:00
I since there was a lot of arguments that were
02:00 - 02:03
happening in my home, I thought that it was the
02:03 - 02:05
same thing everywhere else.
02:06 - 02:10
Um it was very hard for me to leave the
02:11 - 02:11
relationship as well.
02:12 - 02:18
And okay, during this day on august 21st 2017 Jordan,
02:19 - 02:25
he made me realize that uhh he made me realize
02:25 - 02:26
my possession in this society.
02:28 - 02:33
He, after I threatened him telling him that I was
02:33 - 02:37
going to call the police and tell them what, tell
02:38 - 02:40
them that he was distributing things that he wasn't supposed
02:40 - 02:46
to. He um, he proceeded on calling me some very
02:47 - 02:47
racist things.
02:49 - 02:54
Um, he um, told me that police were not going
02:54 - 02:58
to believe me because my skin color because I'm mexican
03:00 - 03:06
and because I'm inferior to him, he's white.
03:08 - 03:13
Um, unfortunately due to experience, it provoked a lot of
03:13 - 03:16
feelings of invoked a lot of feelings of anxiety.
03:19 - 03:22
Um, I started ruminating a lot.
03:23 - 03:24
I would think to myself, what does he mean?
03:26 - 03:31
I've never felt inferior with.
03:32 - 03:34
So it's very surprising.
03:35 - 03:38
But yeah, this picture reminds me of that.
03:39 - 03:45
Um, and yeah, thankfully I ended up breaking up with
03:46 - 03:48
him, I'm not so long after.
03:50 - 03:54
So, uh, this is a picture of my current boyfriend
03:54 - 03:58
Daniel. He's holding my hamster cast.
03:59 - 04:04
This picture reminds me of the word intersectionality, which is
04:04 - 04:09
a communicative communicative way in which the effects of multiple
04:10 - 04:14
forms of discrimination, such as racism, Sexism and classism, combined,
04:15 - 04:20
overlap or intersect, especially in the experiences of marginalized individuals
04:20 - 04:20
or groups.
04:21 - 04:25
So the reason this picture reminds me of that is
04:25 - 04:29
because I'm currently living with a white man who is
04:29 - 04:35
a professor at Rice University, I I'm a caregiver.
04:36 - 04:38
I only make $12 an hour.
04:38 - 04:43
It's not that much and he has a lot of
04:43 - 04:49
friends who are also wealthy and successful and whenever they
04:49 - 04:54
come enjoying I feel that I get treated different due
04:54 - 04:59
to who I am and also my experiences and uh
05:00 - 05:06
the uh different ways I live my life compared to
05:06 - 05:06
them I guess.
05:07 - 05:15
Um there's always this feeling of of discomfort and also
05:16 - 05:21
um many of his friends don't tend to communicate with
05:22 - 05:25
me either which makes me feel a little bad but
05:26 - 05:27
I guess it's understandable.
05:28 - 05:33
Um That's just the way society works and but I
05:33 - 05:34
don't think it should be that way though.
05:35 - 05:39
Our neighbors who are also white data sign not to
05:39 - 05:39
talk to.
05:40 - 05:43
I say hi they ignore my my greetings.
05:44 - 05:48
They I don't know I guess it's a very strange
05:49 - 05:55
thing for some people see a white successful man being
05:55 - 06:02
with a mexican who um I guess looks like he
06:02 - 06:06
can't be in the same position as a white successful
06:06 - 06:10
man. But but yeah okay.
06:11 - 06:15
Uh Living with him though it's it's amazing.
06:15 - 06:16
I love it.
06:17 - 06:17
He loves it.
06:18 - 06:21
We like we like interacting with each other, we like
06:21 - 06:23
interacting with our hand sir.
06:24 - 06:31
And but unfortunately due to certain standards in society there
06:31 - 06:37
are a lot of awkward uncomfortable experiences that I experienced
06:38 - 06:38
the tempter sexuality.
06:40 - 06:44
And yeah these this picture of my boyfriend with his
06:45 - 06:51
hamster and this picture of um A glass that I
06:51 - 06:56
took back in 2017 are good reminders of what intersect
06:57 - 07:01
intersectionality and position maliti are to me.
07:02 - 07:05
Um Thank you all for listening and watching.
