00:01 - 00:04
Hello. My name is johanna johanna Arabic and I would
00:04 - 00:06
like to share my thoughts on the learning environment.
00:07 - 00:11
Uh There are two types of flexible and traditional and
00:11 - 00:14
then I will show you my classroom and then what
00:14 - 00:17
I think uh I should use and what is the
00:17 - 00:19
best for the for the students.
00:19 - 00:24
The flexible learning environment is just that uh the chairs
00:25 - 00:26
and tables they can move around.
00:26 - 00:30
The students can move around and uh everyone feels like
00:30 - 00:34
uh everyone feels more comfortable um talking to each other
00:35 - 00:35
sharing the knowledge.
00:36 - 00:41
And uh and learning the learning process is more easier
00:41 - 00:45
and more interesting and it's not uh something that uh
00:46 - 00:50
you you have to know that you have to learn
00:50 - 00:50
that now.
00:51 - 00:54
Uh The students think okay now we are learning and
00:54 - 00:55
I have to do this.
00:55 - 01:01
It's uh with flexible environment it's more like the the
01:02 - 01:05
students come into the classroom, they feel comfortable, they talk
01:06 - 01:06
to each other.
01:06 - 01:11
And during this uh comfortable times learning happens when the
01:11 - 01:14
students are more relaxed as we can see the picture
01:15 - 01:15
on the top left it.
01:16 - 01:19
I really like this uh this classroom.
01:20 - 01:22
It feels so welcome me.
01:22 - 01:24
It feels like home.
01:24 - 01:30
So students uh probably uh feeling very relaxed.
01:30 - 01:33
Like when they come in here, the second picture as
01:34 - 01:36
well, we see the tables they can move around.
01:36 - 01:39
So students that want to work in groups, uh they
01:40 - 01:42
can, they can do, and then the students who want
01:43 - 01:46
to work by themselves, they can also do that.
01:47 - 01:50
And then we have traditional way when, where we have
01:51 - 01:52
on all the tables.
01:52 - 01:54
When I think about the traditional way.
01:54 - 01:58
I think about my high school when I was going
01:58 - 02:04
to, my high school teacher was always uh above the
02:04 - 02:07
students. So you had to talk to them and to
02:08 - 02:08
show the respect.
02:09 - 02:12
The teachers even had different bedrooms then the students so
02:13 - 02:16
they would never um uh, be together.
02:16 - 02:20
The students were scared of the teachers, they wouldn't ask
02:20 - 02:23
the questions, they never moved around, so it was just
02:24 - 02:27
like teacher was teaching and students were like taking notes.
02:27 - 02:32
And um and learning, I don't like this approach.
02:33 - 02:35
I think it's very strict.
02:36 - 02:39
The students get scared and nervous during the teaching the
02:40 - 02:43
time. They don't think they don't feel comfortable and they
02:43 - 02:45
don't uh feel welcoming.
02:46 - 02:46
This kind of classroom.
02:48 - 02:52
Yeah. Uh the picture on the left is my classroom,
02:53 - 02:53
the picture on the right.
02:54 - 02:57
I couldn't turn it around for some reason.
02:57 - 03:02
Um uh my classroom is pretty plain, uh as we
03:02 - 03:04
can see, it's a computer lab, so it's kind of
03:04 - 03:07
hard to to make it flexible, but still, I think
03:07 - 03:10
I can add like more, at least maybe a couch
03:10 - 03:11
or lazy bag.
03:11 - 03:16
But our students can just uh just feel comfortable that
03:16 - 03:19
they are here, even though I do try to make
03:20 - 03:22
them feel comfortable, like to try to talk to them
03:22 - 03:27
uh to let them walk around being the groups and
03:27 - 03:31
uh just make the learning process a little a little
03:31 - 03:32
bit easier for them.
03:33 - 03:36
The second picture is also the classroom in our school
03:37 - 03:42
um also playing uh computer lab as well, so it's
03:42 - 03:45
uh I think it's kind of hard to to make
03:45 - 03:46
computer like flexible.
03:47 - 03:51
There is a there is the choices and I think
03:52 - 03:55
uh I should make some changes.
03:56 - 03:59
Uh And I hope I will do that in the
04:00 - 04:00
in the future.
04:03 - 04:07
Uh As we can see, I like flexible learning environment
04:08 - 04:11
much better than the traditional one, It's more comfortable.
04:12 - 04:16
It motivates a more both students and teachers, it's more
04:16 - 04:21
relaxed. Uh But on the other side sometimes it's hard
04:21 - 04:23
to get, it's hard to make.
04:23 - 04:27
And then uh when I saw the video about the
04:27 - 04:31
schools that are in nature's uh that are uh very
04:32 - 04:36
environmental, uh I must say that sometimes it's hard to
04:36 - 04:40
do that, especially uh like in Kansas, we don't have
04:40 - 04:44
much woods, so our school cannot be like very uh
04:45 - 04:50
environmental, we cannot uh make schools that have huge glass
04:51 - 04:55
windows that are open uh like they do in different
04:55 - 05:00
countries, for example, in Finland, Sweden or Japan.
05:01 - 05:05
So, um I do like flexible learning environment.
05:05 - 05:10
It's uh it's very good for for both students and
05:10 - 05:13
the teacher, but sometimes it is, it's hard to get,
05:14 - 05:16
and it is hard to manage.
