00:01 - 00:01
Hi, everyone.
00:02 - 00:07
Um, so for my virtual presentation idea, I thought about
00:09 - 00:13
doing an artist talk with the photographer I like.
00:13 - 00:17
I'm actually part of the CSU will be photo club.
00:18 - 00:23
Um, and I am interested in, um, proposing an idea
00:24 - 00:26
for an artist talk with photographer Matt Black.
00:27 - 00:32
Um, he's been doing, um, photography for about 30 years
00:32 - 00:39
now. Um, and he, uh, is renowned in California specifically
00:40 - 00:47
because most of his material, um, involves, um, people that
00:47 - 00:54
live in California, including migrant workers, Um, and people that
00:54 - 00:55
work jobs that are dangerous.
00:56 - 00:56
He shoots pictures.
00:58 - 01:00
Um, and he is really interesting.
01:01 - 01:01
Who is?
01:03 - 01:06
Yeah. So he's a documentary photographer.
01:07 - 01:10
Um, that's another word for what I just explained.
01:11 - 01:12
Um, and he's won several awards.
01:13 - 01:20
Um, so, um is a member of Magnum photos, which
01:20 - 01:24
is really interesting that he, um, join them just for
01:25 - 01:25
a documentary photography.
01:27 - 01:29
Um, that kind.
01:30 - 01:35
Well, his kind of work is reminiscent of photographers that
01:35 - 01:37
were paid to photograph the Great Depression.
01:39 - 01:45
Anyways, um, as you can see, he uses a like
01:45 - 01:48
a and he only shoots in black and white film
01:48 - 01:49
like as a really expensive cameras.
01:50 - 01:53
They were produced in the sixties up until today.
01:54 - 01:58
So, actually, I think even before that, they became really
01:58 - 02:01
popular in the fifties and sixties for documentary photography.
02:02 - 02:12
Um, anyways, photo club, they have virtual recurring guest speakers.
02:13 - 02:16
They're all photographers, and they talk about their work and
02:17 - 02:22
their usually unique or their popular either on social media
02:23 - 02:26
or they have had exhibitions in the past with museums.
02:28 - 02:31
Um, but a club is trying Currently trying thio gain
02:31 - 02:37
a grant from CSU will be to get Sorry, this
02:37 - 02:41
absolutely, um, to get money so that they can fund
02:42 - 02:44
artists more renowned artists to speak.
02:45 - 02:48
Um, virtually this year.
02:48 - 02:56
2021 Um, and michael is to attract students.
02:57 - 03:01
Um, hopefully ah, lot of art students.
03:01 - 03:03
A zealous faculty to this event.
03:04 - 03:08
Um, I have heard of him speaking at schools that
03:08 - 03:13
black in the past, and he has made it, um,
03:15 - 03:20
an important part of, um I guess what he does,
03:21 - 03:24
uh, is to talk about his work and to present
03:25 - 03:27
it because he does deal with a lot of interesting
03:28 - 03:32
themes. Themes that are very present right now, including immigration,
03:33 - 03:36
environmentalism, et cetera.
03:37 - 03:42
Um, I hope to raise awareness with this with his
03:43 - 03:46
presentation Thio funding the arts, which is a very important
03:47 - 03:47
thing right now.
03:48 - 03:51
I know that that is also an ongoing debate in
03:51 - 03:54
academic communities Has been for so long.
03:55 - 03:58
Um, and art at CSL B is very important.
03:59 - 04:04
And I think that maintaining that during this time is
04:05 - 04:08
incredibly important, considering the amount of money that the school
04:08 - 04:12
makes. So that is my proposal?
04:13 - 04:15
Um, yeah.
