00:01 - 00:06
Welcome to the very first video on unit six, the rise of american power.
00:06 - 00:08
We have completed the gilded age.
00:08 - 00:12
That was unit five and we are moving on to unit six which is awesome.
00:12 - 00:14
Excellent, Good us, good for us. Oh goodness.
00:14 - 00:17
Okay so for us to do this, we're gonna do three stages for today.
00:17 - 00:19
We're gonna have to do now.
00:19 - 00:21
Um and then a mini lesson, we're going to analyze a bunch of images,
00:21 - 00:25
try to predict what's going to happen in unit six, build some intrigue,
00:25 - 00:25
things like that.
00:25 - 00:28
And then we're gonna close the self assessment so it's not going
00:28 - 00:30
to be too complicated but this is what we're doing today.
00:30 - 00:31
So
00:31 - 00:32
here we go
00:33 - 00:37
for the do now. We're going to go over the answers from yesterday's assignment.
00:37 - 00:40
Um I'm not going to post this here because I want to make
00:40 - 00:43
sure that people are doing the assignment before they watch the video.
00:43 - 00:47
So um if you're in class great, we'll go over together.
00:47 - 00:49
If not submit your work on google classroom and I
00:49 - 00:51
will be sure to give you feedback on your work.
00:51 - 00:54
Okay, so next let's get into the mini lessons.
00:55 - 00:57
So for this many lessons we're gonna do is we're going to go through four
00:57 - 01:00
different images and try to break down what we think is happening in there.
01:01 - 01:03
So in each of these images,
01:03 - 01:05
normally I would have a whole discussion with you in the class about it.
01:05 - 01:07
But since there is a video component,
01:07 - 01:09
I'm just going to break down the key things I want
01:09 - 01:13
you to notice in these images before we get started.
01:13 - 01:15
Okay, so here's image number one.
01:15 - 01:16
Now,
01:16 - 01:18
the first thing I want you to notice is that
01:18 - 01:21
all of the people in this image are black people.
01:21 - 01:23
So we see that there's there's something to do with
01:23 - 01:25
black people in this unit that we're gonna be covering.
01:25 - 01:29
Okay, we also notice that they seem to be traveling somewhere. Right?
01:29 - 01:32
So there's some kind of movement happening in this unit and they're going
01:32 - 01:36
to specifically Chicago new york and ST louis ST louis is in Missouri,
01:36 - 01:38
so they're heading north, Right?
01:38 - 01:42
So there's some kind of migration happening with african americans in
01:42 - 01:43
this unit specifically.
01:43 - 01:44
Okay, great,
01:44 - 01:46
let's move on to the next image.
01:47 - 01:49
Now, this is a little bit different.
01:49 - 01:52
We see that there's a woman, so there's something to do with woman power.
01:52 - 01:58
She's lighting her hat, which says world power on it and it says expansion up top,
01:58 - 01:59
right?
01:59 - 02:02
Um, and her hat kind of looks like a battleship. Right?
02:02 - 02:03
So it looks like she's heading out to
02:03 - 02:06
battle and there's something to do with american power
02:06 - 02:08
going out and expanding across the world.
02:08 - 02:10
So maybe something to do with colonizing over here. Right?
02:10 - 02:15
We see that her, her actual dress also looks like a battle suit.
02:15 - 02:19
Also, we're noticing that this is a woman, not a man in this outfit over here.
02:19 - 02:20
So there's something to do with women
02:20 - 02:24
power expansion colonizing going on over here.
02:25 - 02:28
We also noticed that there's she's looking into a mirror and
02:28 - 02:30
there's a lot of beauty products going on over there.
02:30 - 02:31
So maybe there's something happening with that.
02:32 - 02:37
Okay, moving forward into the third image. So over here, this is our third image.
02:37 - 02:38
Okay,
02:38 - 02:41
now, clearly there's some kind of battle happening over here.
02:41 - 02:42
So we know so far that in this unit
02:42 - 02:45
there's some kind of migration happening with african americans,
02:45 - 02:47
some type of expansion across the world.
02:48 - 02:51
And over here we have some kind of battle. So it looks like a really, really
02:51 - 02:54
destructive grisly battle
02:54 - 02:55
in this unit.
02:55 - 02:57
This image is actually an image of World War One and we're
02:57 - 03:01
gonna be breaking down specifically trench warfare in World War One.
03:01 - 03:04
So these people are actually fighting with entrenched and you'll
03:04 - 03:06
notice that there's dead bodies all over the place,
03:06 - 03:07
black and white.
03:07 - 03:10
Um, there's only one soldier looks like left alive.
03:10 - 03:14
Um, so we're gonna be getting a lot into World War One in this unit.
03:14 - 03:15
Okay,
03:15 - 03:18
the last and final image that we're gonna be tackling over here
03:18 - 03:20
is this image over here.
03:21 - 03:25
In this image we see over here, uh, there are a bunch of different nations over here,
03:25 - 03:27
as you can see there's Russia,
03:27 - 03:34
Japan china England America all trying to get their knife into a stake of the pie,
03:34 - 03:36
right, this is a pie over here with china.
03:36 - 03:39
So there's something to do with china and imperialism over here.
03:40 - 03:42
This is just some of the ideas that we're gonna be covering
03:42 - 03:43
in this unit
03:44 - 03:44
we're gonna do.
03:44 - 03:47
Now is I'm gonna have you complete the self assessment for
03:47 - 03:49
today on google classroom I know is a shorter lesson.
03:49 - 03:52
If you're watching this online um in class we're gonna be diving a little bit deeper,
03:52 - 03:55
so if you can be sure to get to class,
03:55 - 03:58
this video should just be used as more like a review for the lesson.
03:58 - 04:02
Um With that, I hope you have an excellent day and I will see you all tomorrow.
