  1. Hello.
  2. My name is Daniel bustamante and today we're gonna be
  3. talking about domestic abuse and the depths of it.
  4. So first things first, let's get into what is domestic abuse.
  5. Domestic abuse is any violent pattern with
  6. your current or former intimate partner.
  7. Domestic abuse is commonly known as domestic violence.
  8. A reason I don't like using the term domestic violence is because
  9. when people hear domestic violence they suddenly just turn to physical,
  10. they turn into hitting strangling, holding someone down.
  11. This is what they're tying down to domestic violence.
  12. But domestic abuse comes in a lot of different forms.
  13. The main one is physical. This is something that we're programmed to look out for.
  14. This is someone something that we're constantly being worn for,
  15. that your partner should never lay their hands on you or hurt you in any shape or form.
  16. But those shapes and forms aren't just physical touch
  17. abuse can be in sexual just because you're in
  18. a long term relationship with someone does not mean
  19. that they still aren't forcing you to do sexual
  20. acts that you don't want to do any time.
  21. There is no consent in any sexual acts. This is a form of domestic abuse.
  22. Another form of domestic abuse is emotional.
  23. This is anywhere between telling you that your feelings are invalid that whatever
  24. you feel or whatever concerns you have in this relationship don't matter.
  25. This is neglecting any shape or form of anything that
  26. you feel towards a relationship making you feel worthless.
  27. Like you have no voice in this relationship.
  28. Another form of domestic abuse is social.
  29. This is limiting your access to your friends,
  30. not allowing you to see family members.
  31. They do this because they don't want you to see that
  32. you have a support system or any way of leaving them.
  33. This also comes in controlling who you're texting,
  34. not allowing you to have social media controlling your social
  35. media is having access to your instagram facebook Snapchat account,
  36. constantly logging in, checking up on who you're talking to,
  37. who you're having a conversation with, constantly.
  38. This is all forms of domestic abuse.
  39. Another one is verbal.
  40. This one we're all very well aware of but sometimes
  41. love makes us blind and we choose to ignore it.
  42. This is telling us that we don't matter that
  43. we don't value anything to degrade you and make
  44. you feel like you have no self love and no self will to walk out of this relationship.
  45. Another one is economical,
  46. controlling how much money you're spending your expenses,
  47. telling you what you can and what you can't buy
  48. trips that you can go on social events telling you
  49. that you can't do this or that because you can't
  50. afford it or they won't allow you to do so.
  51. Or if they're your form of income controlling where
  52. and when you can go to certain places.
  53. Another misconception about domestic abuse is that
  54. it only happens in grown mature relationships.
  55. You don't have to be married to your partner to experience. Domestic abuse.
  56. Domestic abuse can happen anywhere to anyone at any age.
  57. We commonly see toxic relationships in teenagers and
  58. just excuse it as a trend or immaturity.
  59. This is all a form of domestic abuse that we need to stay aware too.
  60. This happens all around us and we just choose to ignore it.
  61. Or sometimes we don't even notice that it's happening to us.
  62. Another misconception is that men aren't victims of domestic abuse.
  63. This is very wrong. One and three victims of domestic abuse happen to be men.
  64. Men don't report it as much for the same reason as women do sometimes that they
  65. don't want to accept that or they're just not aware that it's happening to them.
  66. Men have
  67. the stereotype that they have to be the men and the
  68. relationship that they have to be the supportive protective one.
  69. And when they're the ones that are being a victim of domestic abuse,
  70. it just hurts their manhood and they don't want to admit it.
  71. This happens to women as well.
  72. And this is why people don't leave the
  73. domestic abusive relationships because they feel trapped.
  74. Sometimes there aren't even aware that it's
  75. happening to them or they just don't want
  76. to accept that the person that they fell in love with is abusive to them.
  77. Sometimes the person that you fall in love with,
  78. you just see them as your everything because they have manipulated
  79. you controlled you and limited your access to other people and
  80. other supportive systems that will make you aware of the relationship
  81. that you're in and the danger that it possesses over you.
  82. Thank you.
